I just saw it, this movie is a complete masterpiece.
Five Easy Pieces if you ask me
You're a laughing stock with that joke take.
One of the most exquisitely photographed movies of all time. Shindo had a few of those (ie Naked Island).
Worth the watch just for that, even though the movie offers much more.
What else could they realistically do? The war had ruined everything around them.
There wasn't regular commerce going on and their harvests were ruined by hailstorms and frost. It was also hard for two women (one older), after their son/husband left to war, to make it on their own in that situation.
Who cares about your phukking thoughts?
Especially when you rate a top notch movie 7/10.
Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean others will feel the same. People have different tastes and reactions to what they watch, because they are very different people.
I personally love this movie, I'm not trying to impress anyone, it just hits my buttons. Some people love history and watching these snapshots of times and places that don't exist. Plus the human themes are timeless. The amount of lost men, who have squandered potential, is very high in this world.
I think Godard, Bergman, Scorcese and Nolan (to lesser extent Kubrick as well) are overrated but I can at least understand why people like them. Some people like reading 2000 page novels on dense subjects for fun. A secure person has no desire to go to those boards and talk shit.
I think Early Spring is the most underrated one I've seen so far. In fact, Tokyo Story, while still great, has been my least favorite. Ozu was a master.
The snow through the windows was incredible. So evocative in black and white, late 50s postwar japan vibe. Captures a time and place that will never exist again.
She was a beauty. I recently saw L'eclisse, which also had Rabal in it, and prime Monica Vitti was another stunner.
For real. People cant see beyond their pathetic hatred for religion, its childish.
Intentions matter in life, she was trying to do good, even if not going about it the best way. What is a person who grew up in a convent supposed to act like?
She was trying to help people, not go around inciting genocide! Beautiful woman, with a beautiful smile. You're just a bitch who's puss gets dry and itchy at the mention of religion and you get hateful. Childish.
I'm not even religious, by the way; but I respect people and have had many Christian friends.
You cant hate a person for naivete
It's one of my least favorites, he has 10 better films.
Nice, get real comfortable if you do. The last one I need to watch is The Sacrifice. To.round out my top 3 I'd put Solaris and Nostalghia. Oddly enough, the only one I dont consider a masterpiece is the mirror, but id also be open to a rewatch at some point (with better subtitles).
For real man, I agree with you, we can love the same thing (film) but still have different tastes.
It's hilarious you keep picking some of my favorites, Tarkovsky to me is like the greatest director ever, but I'd pick Andre Rublev as his opus. The way he moved the camera is unparalleled. Ozu and Antonioni are right there too, for me personally.
I think Goddard and Truffuat are overrated as hell but I won't argue with anyone who thinks they're great directors, I can understand why people think that.
Lol, The Passenger is one of my all time favs. L'eclisse was extremely good too.
Smoking some herb helps transport you to the time and place. Loving history helps in watching classic movies. I'm so interested in different times and places.
One of the most beautiful. I just saw L'eclisse, what a woman.
It's not though. Rififi is actually quite a lot better than The asphalt Jungle. I'd never rewatch the latter unless some fine ass woman insists on watching it with me and even then, I'd suggest something else.
It's not archaic at all, son. It's a very relevant movie to this day. I think it's better than Tokyo Story.
You don't need to care about characters to like a movie, I never understood this complaint. You just need to be interested in time and place, and the human condition.
I love how people make unsubstantiated claims like "it wasn't marketed", get proven wrong, and never come back to the topic. I can't stand people who get called out and then never post again in the topic. Total cowardice, you see it on a lot of comment chains or forums.
You're right, Still Walking is not on the level of Tokyo Story, it's a lot better. Still Walking is one of the greatest movies ever made. Tokyo Story is not nearly as good and Ozu had at minimum 5 better movies than it.
