Test of time?

This is my 7th or 8th Ozu film in the past six months and this one didn't do it for me. Much like There was a Father, I simply never connected to any of the characters. This one, unlike most of the others, was filled with too much dialogue and I was never allowed to make judgments on my own. I wonder how this has stood the test of time in Japan. Seems to have an archaic mentality.

It's not archaic at all, son. It's a very relevant movie to this day. I think it's better than Tokyo Story.

You don't need to care about characters to like a movie, I never understood this complaint. You just need to be interested in time and place, and the human condition.
