Army of Shadows
Le Cercle Rouge
Bob le Flambeur
Le Doulos
Le Samourai
Still want to see more
Since when does a movie need to end on a uplifting note?
If you as me Schindlers List is trash and this is great, and much more interesting as a historical document.
You have some massive omissions on that list.
First of all, The Third Man. At least two pr three David Lean movies and O Lucky Man!.
Olmi is a great director. Il Posto is even better. I need to watch Tree of Woodem Clogs.
Agreed
Viridiana for me, one of my favorites, but Pickpocket is my favorite Bresson and that one's better than both.
Just because you think a movie needs plot doesn't mean a damn thing. In fact I prefer movies that aren't so narrative heavy. Some of us just like seeing life and history for what it is, no theatrics, melodrama or plot. I'm not saying plot is bad, but it is definitely not necessary. To think film should limit itself because some dude on the internet think plots is all-important is completely asinine.
You just didn't like it, doesn't mean it's bad or heavy plot focus is necessary in cinema.
Too clean? Who is the decider on that?
Ozu was a master or cinema and his movies were indeed very profound.
It wasn't bad, but I liked Five Easy Pieces a lot better. Now that movie is an all time masterpiece.
