I like the comic book but the TV series is better as it is a comedy. Since this is not hard science fiction, it works better as a comedy. The comic is a straight forward "fish out of water" story. It would be better if in the TV series he was merely stranded on Earth while trying to retrieve a probe rather than working to kill every human on the planet.
At the risk of sounding like an apologist, the alien was substantially taller than Harry when he first invaded the cabin. It showed the alien reducing his height and reshaping his feet prior to the more superficial illusion of disguise that came next.
This is a difference from the source material in that the alien was of usual human male height and build prior to taking the on his human appearance. We also never see the human appearance of the alien in the comic book. In the comic Harry also appears as his alien self on camera unlike the TV series.
Actually it looks good. Have you watched it?
Most of the humor in the book did not make it into the film script.
I needed a job. As a retiree I have access to health care for my family at about $600/year. This coverage has kept me from going bankrupt.
Unless you're buying it, why should you be wasting any energy at all complaining about it?
Every wealthy person in the show appeared to be "an uppity so and so". None of the upper class characters in these kinds of shows are really sympathetic for the most part.
I don't think so. The Russians admired Beth's chess skill at the tournament as she had improved much since Paris. The attitudes of the Russians in the final episode was the same as in the book. Nothing about signals.
Borgov was not entirely stoic; at the final match he left his board during a game to look at Beth's board after her opponent resigned.
But what exactly, is wrong with her?
Based on what the book said about the game; Beth hated Girev for his youth and seriousness so she wanted to crush him. She softened after beating him, knowing how she hated to lose when she was 9 years old.
As far as walking away then moving her piece immediately after Girev made his move, she had studied the game and it was moving along exactly as she had planned. Her foot taping was just nervousness on her part. In the book this was expressed by Beth shaking as she poured herself a glass of water instead of toe tapping.
I agree. In the book Rambo was the bad guy even if he was at times shown in a sympathetic manner.
Beth and her mother probably depended entirely upon tournament winnings after Mr. Wheatley abandoned them. Beth and her mother were making mortgage payments unless Mr. Wheatley was sending money to the bank. The mortgage payments did not stop after Beth paid Mr. Wheatley the equity on the house when he threatened to kick her out.
Upkeep on the house was why Beth had a hard time paying for the trip to Russia for the tournament.
I agree. The only character name in both is Jurgen Warmbrunn. Other than zombies attacking humans, nothing that happens in the book happens in the film and vise versa. Even the zombies are much different.
If they changed that one name, they could have made the film without crediting Max Brooks at all I think. :)
Actually some of those records are not firsts and some of them can be "sniffed at".
The USA put the first animals (monkeys and mice) in space aboard modified V-2's in the late 40's and early 50's years prior to the Soviets putting a dog in orbit.
The Soviets putting the first woman or ethnic minority in space was just a publicity stunt in their eyes.
Many of the Soviet "space firsts" were only months ahead of the USA. The Soviets/Russians did not have a successful heavy lift boosters until Energia in 1987; their N-1 failed four times which ended their manned lunar program in the 1970's.
Don't be. This film was set about 15 years before women were allowed to serve on American subs.
The TV series portrayed Benny as a bit of a slacker. He passed on various tournaments and played in others. I think he just did enough to get by. He is also shown playing speed chess for cash.
In the book Benny <spoiler> plays poker to pay the rent</spoiler>
Well, there are reasons for the existence of attractive women other than to arouse your lust dude.
I liked the child actors the least. When I re-watched the series I fast forwarded through most of the parts with the kids.
Because why should they be any certain color? Surely you recall that the flood killed nearly everyone then the people were scattered after building the tower of Babel? Why would anyone decide they knew was "the plan" was?
Actually I think the producers would rather mess with the racists who would rend their clothes over something as inconsequential as the color of the cast in a series based upon an irreverent book like Good Omens than to be biblically accurate.
Just enjoy the show. :)
I would have thought that it was obvious that anything shown depicting the private lives of the royals was a figment of the writer's imagination. Why would anyone think this series is anything but a work of historical fiction?
