There were a small number of black American soldiers at Normandy on D-day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/320th_Barrage_Balloon_Battalion
Just because a treaty was signed and lands were ceded does not mean a theft did not occur. If the US had not invaded Mexico, then the lands would not now be owned by the US.
So, you want your tax dollars paying for the welfare benefits that go to the underpaid workers of rich corporations?
Okay, then tell us who was what color and what page of the book the description was made. People are not just white by default.
The Duke was described as dark, olive skinned; maybe Herbert intended for his reading audience to think of him as descended from Earth Asians, Latinos or Mediterraneans?
The word black was used to describe hair, clothes, mood, disposition. Spice traders for the guild were called black, but it might not have referred to their skin color. The color white seemed to use only to describe eyes and knife blades.
The Lynch film was rather dull, the script was mostly to blame. The acting of the 1984 film was better than the 2000 TV version. No where to go but up for the 2020 film. :)
So did Frank Herbert actually identify the skin color of all the major characters in his books? Or are you just assigning skin color to best suit your tastes?
After watching the trailer, I've decided that Chalamet might do a good job. :)
Would you change Paul's skin color for the film? After all he and his legions "killed sixty-one billion, sterilized ninety planets, completely demoralized five hundred others .... wiped out the followers of forty religions". Paul Atreides is clearly the bad guy in the books.
You're being evasive. I asked if you want your tax dollars paying for the welfare benefits that underpaid workers get from rich corporations. It seems as if you prefer to pay more taxes to help large corporations pay their employees instead of those employees getting a living wage from their employers.
Surely you are aware that Mexico possessed more of what is now the USA than Texas.
Excellent book, better than the movie. Movie was good.
What was your favorite scene? Least liked scene?
Whites did more than steal land from violent savages. It was also stolen from civilized Mexicans, Spanish and others.
Your view of the supreme whites "rightfully" taking land from the owners is as warped as Ransom's. The persons most responsible for "stealing wealth" are the rich capitalists of any race who are able to run their companies by paying their employees just enough so that the turnover rate among their serfs does not reduce their bottom line.
Requiring employers, especially the rich ones, to pay a living wage instead of peanuts which makes their employees qualified for welfare would make things better for almost everyone. Do you really want your taxes going to support underpaid employees of rich companies?
In the book Watney credits Martinez with saving his life. Martinez "owned" the landing on Mars and saved enough hydrazine fuel for Watney to make hydrogen gas and water for his farm.
In the book he was socially awkward. Had they written the script directly from the book it would have been funnier. In fact most of the funny stuff from the book did not make it into the movie.
A Cuban who left as soon as she got the chance. https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2019/05/06/ana-de-armas-fled-communist-cuba-to-pursue-acting-dreams/
I thought that was the best part. :)
They do not follow that close or get close to the ocean bottom as shown in cinema. The typical trailing distance is several thousand yards.
Radiation leak; a broad term. Radiation from fission and decay of nitrogen-16 are the most significant contributors to radiation levels in the engine room and forward compartment. A small percentage of the radiation produced in the core and the coolant loop will penetrate the shields around the reactor and the compartment it is located in. On American submarines the amount of radiation the crew is exposed to is less than that of from the sun unless they stand near the shield.
The secondary shield around the reactor compartment, if damaged (cracked), could allow more radiation to stream from the reactor compartment into the engine room where the crew works.
Coolant (contaminated by corrosion products, and N-16 from decay of activated oxygen -16) can leak into the secondary steam system or into the ship's atmosphere and increase the crew's exposure.
The crew does routine surveys around the shield, samples the coolant and samples the air for activity on a regular basis. On American submarines, it is the junior enlisted crew members of the reactor laboratories (RL) division that do this.
There would be no way at all to trick the crew into believing there was an increase in the radiation levels through the shield or a coolant leak from the reactor plant unless every personal dosimeter was tampered with, every portable radiac had it's calibration adjusted and every check source used to test the radiacs and the TLD reader (dosimetry anaylizer) was exchanged with one to allow deception. Or, every member of RL division, their division officer, the engineer and the commanding officer were in on it.
I was a member of RL division in the submarine fleet. There is no way anyone could have fooled me or my shipmates into believing there was a coolant leak when there wasn't one. I would have noticed a complete and massive change-out of every piece of equipment on board that monitored coolant activity and radiation levels.
The Russians did things differently.
I thought every performance was good. With an ensemble cast like this one some people are not going to get much in the way of screen time. It would have been nice to see more of Riki Lindhome, but she only had a few lines.
If you recall from the movie, Harlen was concerned about the mother's immigration status, not Marta's. This implies that Marta was a legal resident or US citizen. Since the rest of the family thought Marta was from various countries, it is possible that she was an immigrant living in the USA legally as an alien or a citizen. But keep on talking up the illegal/anchor baby argument; it looks good on you. :)
The only person in the movie who suggested that Marta was an anchor baby was the nazi kid.
I noticed the same thing.
