You serious? I was watching way worse when I was a kid or at least exposed to way worse. First of all, I was exposed to Michael Myers, Jason, and Freddy when I was a kid. Pretty much my whole grade/class knew who Michael, Jason, Freddy, Pinhead, and Chucky were by kindergarten or first grade (some classmates were HUGE fans of the big three slasher icons by kindergarten/first grade too). I also watched Pumpkinhead 2 when I was in second or third grade. Then when I was in about third grade I watched Scream. Ghostface was everywhere too, especially at Halloween. Also the 90's was a time that Stallone and Arnold were still in their prime and their movies were everywhere. Most of their movies were R-rated as well. The list goes on. Plus one of the first R-rated movies I watched was Judgment Night with Emilio Estevez and Denis Leary. So yeah. Something is WAY off if Avatar 2 is too traumatic. "Manning up" is STRONGLY recommended/required.
I thought the movie was decent plot wise. I remained interested the whole time. Things do get questionable between the 1 hour and 2 hour mark. There was a few times I was like "okay, I get it, let's get moving now." They weren't exactly boring parts, but they were a little repetitive or stretching stuff out. I think the movie could've been shortened by 15-20 minutes. But other than that, the movie flew by for me. Didn't feel like a 3 hour movie. Maybe 2.5 hours at the most. I'm thinking I might've been a little more into it just because I'm Native America and I could see Native Americans in the Na'vi. Actually, I'm not watching movies for Native American representation, but Avatar does thing in a more natural/organic way than a lot of movies nowadays that force all the representation (I also thought Avatar did a WAY better job at Native American representation than that stupid Prey movie, god dang did Prey suck). So I could connect with stuff a little more. And to further prove I'm not watching movies for representation is because I do enjoy the Avatar movies, but I'm not going to say they are the best movies ever/of all time. And Avatar 2 wasn't my #1 favorite movie of 2022. That goes to The Batman. Oh and don't forget my thoughts on Prey. I tore Prey apart while watching it and afterwards. Prey would easily be in my Top 10 Worst Movies Of 2022. But I have tons of reasons why I hated Prey besides just terrible representation. Didn't care for the main girl, story sucked, terrible pacing, how the predator is defeated, and so on. Prey actually felt like a longer movie than Avatar 2. I could watch Avatar 2 again. Prey, I never want to see that movie again.
I enjoyed the movie, but I'm not going to say its the greatest movie ever or anything. It's in my top 10 movies of 2022 (although there aren't 10 movies I liked in 2022 since I only liked 6 or 7 movies throughout 2022, the rest would be either in the worst movies, or in the middle (didn't like them enough to make my top 10, but they aren't terrible enough to make the worst list)), but it doesn't take first place for favorite movies of 2022. First place goes to The Batman. But if I made a Top 10 Movies Of All Time list, Avatar 1 and 2 won't be on there. I think the highest they would go is if I expanded stuff to the Top 100 Movies Of All Time. They'd probably be somewhere between #51 and #100. So yeah. I enjoyed the movie overall, but I'm not going to say something like "best movie ever."
I saw it in regular 2D. Where I live, that's my only option. And since I live in a small town, the movie theater in my town is more of a mom & pop/locally owne. Bigger theaters like AMC are a minimum of 2-3 hours away (and in a different timezone). But the closest (official) IMAX is about 6-8 hours away. I'm not traveling that far just to see a movie unless I'm traveling for other reasons (family member/relative getting surgery and I'm visiting or tagging along, wedding, funeral, family reunion, etc.), and I just happen to have some downtime and seeing a movie is something I could do. I'm not going on a trip just to see a movie. But yeah. I saw the movie in plain/regular 2D. I enjoyed it though. I don't need all these gimmicks to watch a movie. I also saw the first Avatar in plain/regular 2D. Enjoyed that movie too. Maybe I am missing out on something, but at least I can debunk stuff when people say it's ONLY a good movie if you see it in 3D/IMAX 3D and all those other gimmicks. Not true.
Well, I saw nothing PG-13 about the violence/action scenes/battles/etc. Was too graphic for PG-13. There is one scene where Mel Gibson kills a guy with a hatchet/tomahawk and then starts repeatedly hacking away at the guy's body with the hatchet/tomahawk and blood is flying everywhere. Mel Gibson is covered in the guy's blood by the time he is done. Yeah. That's definitely not PG-13. And then we got cannonballs decapitating soldiers and knocking off limbs with blood spraying everywhere/gushing out. Also too much for PG-13. I think the movie isn't as graphic as other war movies, but it's still too much to be PG-13. So I can see the movie being R for just the graphic violence and nothing else. Maybe if there was stages for ratings, I'd say it's somewhere in the middle of a light/soft and medium R.
Apparently Gal Gadot/Gisele is returning, so add that to the list of stuff. Maybe the plot revolves around her and it's some rescue mission. I think that's part of why we see Han show up at Deckard's place during the scene of 9's end credits. Han is there to recruit Deckard for the rescue mission to save Gisele. And Han is probably there to recruit him so Deckard could get back at Cipher for using him in 7, while also allowing Deckard to have even more of a redemption arc for trying to kill him (since Han is still alive, so Deckard didn't actually kill him). Maybe Han will give him the offer of "help me save Gisele, and things will be good between us since you tried killing me." It's possible that Cipher and Dante both know where Gisele is, and are maybe keeping her captive somewhere. I have a feeling though Momoa will betray Cipher. Momoa is too big of a name at the moment to keep as a villain and maybe even kill off (well, his character died in Dune, but he was a good guy though in Dune and died a hero).
I have a feeling Momoa will join Dom's team. Plus I don't know about Cipher. She was wasted in 9. They didn't do jack with her in 9. I will be shocked if Momoa doesn't join Dom's team in the end since Dom already converted Hobbs, the Shaw brothers, and Cena (although I don't think he really counts since he is Dom's brother, plus there was the whole relationship between Cena and Mia (Cena still cared about his little sister, and Mia knew there was still good in him and that she could probably bring him back). But I want Cipher to remain the main villain for 10 and 11 aka 10 Part 1 and 10 Part 2. It would be nice to see Momoa betray Cipher and then Cipher recruits Carter Verone. Would be nice to see Carter Verone return and get some follow-up to telling Roman "I'll see you soon" at the end of 2 Fast 2 Furious. Verone could even dick with Tej in a way. Verone and Tej never really met or had any onscreen moments, but there is some kind of history between the two since Tej did assist Brian and Roman in 2 to take him down. But yeah. I'd just like them to stick with Cipher as the main baddie for the last few movies. Plus something tells me Momoa will join Dom's team. He is too big of a name to keep a villain. Plus with The Rock/Hobbs not coming back, they'll need a Hobbs replacement. So Momoa could take that spot. I'll be shocked though if Momoa remains a villain and/or dies at the end.
They should've left this a secret until we are actually watching the movie. But I figured she would be brought back when it was revealed that Owen Shaw was still alive at the beginning of Furious 7 and then moving around in Fate Of The Furious aka 8. If he could survive been launched out of a plane, she could be able to survive her fall. I think Owen had a worse "death." With how he was launched out of that plane, he had to of "rag dolled" for a good mile or so. Gisele though should've just slammed hard into the ground, or at least "rag dolled" for a good fifty feet or so. Maybe a quarter of how far Owen went at the most. Something like that. Also, with Han being brought back, I was pretty much "oh, they have to bring Gisele back now." But this should've been kept for when we are actually watching the movie. Keep it a surprise. I'm sort of hoping that maybe Cipher recovered her body and is holding her captive somewhere. Doesn't seem like Mr. Nobody knows anything about her. But with Cipher being "behind the scenes" for a couple movies, she had to have swooped in there and recovered Gisele's body. Plus she probably recovered Owen as well. I'm guessing Deckard and Cipher were working together in 7, and Cipher was how Deckard was so resourceful in 7 and kept randomly popping up wherever the team was. So Cipher had to have recovered Owen and maybe even Gisele. Cipher probably forced Deckard to work for her because of saving Owen. Maybe it'll be revealed that Gisele is brainwashed and working for Cipher (almost similar to Lettty's situation in 6 and sort of Fast Five (offscreen)) and the team has to bring her back to the good side. Or Cipher is just simply holding her captive and it's a subplot of the movie. Could be even THE plot of the movie and the whole movie is some rescue mission. I think Gisele is going to tie into that Han and Deckard scene during 9's end credits. Possibly more redemption for Deckard for trying to kill Han (since Han is still alive).
As I said in a different topic thread on this, I'm Native American and enjoyed the movie. I don't need "proper" representation. Plus everyone is just playing blue characters and not actual Native Americans. I look at Avatar like The Simpsons (where everyone is yellow). Pretty much all the actors are just being voice actors in the Avatar movies. Their characters don't really look anything like the actors. For example, I had no idea that was Kate Winslet in the movie until AFTER the movie and I was watching reviews, plus swung over to IMDB. The character looked nothing like Kate Winslet. Even with all the motion capturing tech she wore during filming. It looks nothing like her. Whoever started this crap can go suck a dick. I don't regret giving the movie money, and I plan on buying the movie on Blu-Ray. Plus it'll be in my top 10 movies of 2022. Maybe not first place (since that goes to The Batman), but it'll be in the top 10 somewhere. All I care about is a good movie and to be entertained. That's what I got out of Avatar 2. Plus even the first Avatar. F'k these people that started this crap.
I'm Native American. I watched the movie twice (I enjoyed it). Don't see anything offensive about it or a reason to boycott. Plus everyone is going to be blue anyway. All they are pretty much doing is supplying their voices to the CGI characters (I couldn't even recognize the actors anyway, like I had no idea that was Kate Winslet until after I saw the movie and was watching reviews on YouTube, the character looked nothing like Kate). I don't need actual Native Americans to play the characters anyway either for "proper" representation. Whoever started this crap is an idiot. All I want is a good movie and to be entertained. That's what I got. Avatar 2 is in my top 10 movies of 2022, although it's not first place since that goes to The Batman. I'll also be buying the movie on Blu-Ray. So f'k whoever started this crap.
I can believe it and never questioned stuff. When I was in elementary school and junior high, the high school students looked like they were late 20's or somewhere in their 30's. Also, when I was in 11th and 12th grade, quite a few classmates looked like they were already in their 20's or early to mid 30's. Actually, some classmates were already looking 5 years older than me and everyone else in my grade in junior high. Probably the first 2-4 months of 7th grade, I was questioning if some classmates got held back a few times. And a lot of classmates I was meeting for the first time in 7th grade since in my town, we have (or had since a few closed throughout the years since I finished my K-12 days) a bunch of elementary schools and then once everyone reached 7th grade, then ALL kids/students merged into one junior high school. So that further explains why I was questioning some classmates for the first 2-4 months of 7th grade. And then there was some I never saw until high school (because of class schedules and the paths being taken to get from one class to the next) and I thought they were juniors or seniors. Actually, after looking at the yearbook of my senior year, there was some I still never saw at any point in high school. I don't even remember seeing them during graduation. But yeah. I never really questioned the whole thing of actors in their late 20's or somewhere in their 30's being cast as high school students. Back in the day, they looked no different than the current high school students that I saw whenever I took field trips to the high school or ones that visited my elementary school. Plus I had some living in the same neighborhood as me for a couple years. And even some classmates started to look old-er too when my graduation class reached junior and senior year.
I wouldn't want her kissing me. That's just wrong/messed up. I'm almost 20 years older than her. Also, I watched her grow up because of Stranger Things. Maybe if I didn't discover her until she turned 18, things would be a tad different. But no. I'm not going to be called a pedophile. Its bad enough that society has started this thing that if you are more more than 5 years older than your husband/boyfriend or wife/girlfriend, you are considered a pedophile. Doesn't matter if the two of you are in your 20's or 50+. If there is a 5+ year age gap, the older person in the relationship is considered a pedophile. There are some that are trying to escalate things even more by lowering the age gap to 3 years. Oh and I was already accused of being a pedophile between the ages of 18-21 since I REALLY liked Emma Watson back in the day. I was accused of being a pedophile since when I was 18-21 year range, Emma was underage. But I'm about a year and a half older than Emma. When I was a senior in high school, she would've been a sophomore or junior. And it was VERY common (at least at my high school) for senior year students to date sophomores and/or juniors. Maybe even freshmen. I know when I was a freshmen, all the senior year guys were going crazy about the freshmen girls. And ALL the popular girls in my grade were dating senior year guys. That's all they dated freshmen year. But anyway. I was already accused of being a pedophile back in the day with Emma Watson, although she and I are pretty much the same age. I'm not going through that again with Millie. So Millie can stay away from me and I wouldn't like if she kissed me. I don't care if she is 18/legal now either. I'm not going near her. Plus I watched her grow up. Even with her being 18, I still see that little girl from Season 1 of Strange Things. Now I get what parents talk about when they say, "no matter how old you get, I still see that little boy/girl" (depending on if it's a son or daughter they are talking about).
I think the movie was shot in 1.85:1 like the first movie. Pretty much all of Avatar 1's marketing was in 2.35:1, and when I saw the first movie in theaters, it was 2.35:1 (I even remember being thrown off by the movie when I watched it on Blu-Ray and the aspect ratio was 1.85:1 instead of 2.35:1). I'm thinking James Cameron did the same for Avatar 2. Even IMDB lists 1.85:1 for Avatar 2 if you look at the technical specifications section. The marketing and theatrical release (in standard theaters like the one in my town and not something "fancy" like IMAX/IMAX 3D) are probably in 2.35:1, and the Blu-Ray/digital/streaming version will be 1.85:1. But that was why I was a little iffy on watching Avatar 2 in theaters. The theatrical release will chop off the top and bottom (or maybe do some kind of pan and scan) to make it 2.35:1, so I'm seeing less (I did see Avatar 2 in theaters though), but the Blu-Ray will have no black bars and everything that was chopped off will be there. I noticed I could see more on the Blu-Ray release of the first Avatar compared to when I saw it in theaters (I had to compare stuff using the Blu-Ray and trailers found on YouTube). We'll see what happens with the Avatar 2 Blu-Ray though. I'm just going to assume that Avatar 2 will follow what happened with Avatar 1, and that when Avatar 2 releases on Blu-Ray, it'll be in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio.
I think you are looking too much into things. A lot of movies don't have that great of a real time to runtime ratio. Just look at Die Hard 3. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson have like 30 minutes to drive across New York to answer a phone. The drive takes about 3-5 minutes of the movie's runtime, but by the time they reach the phone, they only have seconds remaining. From what we see, it doesn't look like they were in the car for about 29 minutes 30 seconds. Also, if you read the novel to the Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie, the whole final fight happens in the 12 chimes of midnight, but the fight takes up 15-20 minutes of the movie's runtime. And then there is the whole runway fight in Fast & Furious 6. Everyone thinks it's a super long runway, but really, it seems like they are taking off for 10-15 minutes because they break down stuff and show everyone's POV and what they were doing in the scene. But then you got to also factor in the whole thing of how terrible the ratio is for real time to movie runtime, so about 5 minutes for us is maybe 2-3 minutes for the characters. I've even seen plenty of movies too where the characters have like 30 seconds to stop a bomb, and it takes 5+ minutes of the movie's runtime to do that. Or go watch The Tale Of The Phantom Cab episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? The kids have 30-45 seconds to answer Dr. Vink's riddle or else they are going to die when the cab crashes into a tree. That 30-45 seconds is more like 2-4 minutes of the episode's runtime. You'll be saying, "this is one long ass 30-45 seconds" since they keep going and going and going and haven't crashed yet. So yeah. Lots of movies and TV shows don't have the greatest real time to runtime ratio, and I think everyone is just looking too much into stuff. Stuff could be happening in that scene in Halloween 3 a lot faster for the characters than us. Plus you have to factor in that they probably had to reset the clocks to 9:11 EVERY TIME they started a new take.
I guess it's a no-win. If they threw in some black, Asian, Mexican, Arab villains (and so on), everyone would call James Cameron racist because he thinks non-whites are all evil. They'd completely ignore that there is some whites mixed in there as well. They'd just focus in on the non-white villains.
It's almost like the whole Michael Myers/Halloween Kills thing. Halloween Kills was the first Halloween movie that Michael killed a gay couple. Before that, we had 40+ years of seeing Michael kill straight people/straight couples. But Michael kills one gay couple/two gay people in Halloween Kills and suddenly he is homophobic/anti-LGBTQ+. Um, if anything, Michael is anti-straight. But yeah. Let's focus on this ONE gay couple/two gay people instead of ALL the straight couples/people he's killed in all the previous Halloween movies. I'm ignoring the timelines and what's canon/non-canon to each timeline. I'm looking at Halloween altogether.
Pretty sure there are some deleted scenes that explain stuff further, but everything can be sort of figured out if you "read between the lines." The scientists were on a base in the Hallelujah Mountains or around them, which is where the military's tech gets all scrambled (like radars). Plus it's said that Jake had put heavy protection on the mountains. The new general explains anytime they send military out there, they get wiped out almost instantly due to tech malfunctioning and it being heavily guarded/protected. And once Jake, Neytiri, and the rest of the family leave/flee, I think the scientists and Na'Vi were told to be on high alert for avatars in military clothing since the friendly avatars will be in more casual/civilian type clothes and not military unless the friendlies are going to war with the "sky people." So with that, Quaritch probably knew better to show up and start interrogating people. He'd probably get taken down pretty quickly by those protecting/guarding the area. I think Jake, Neytiiri, and the Sully kids would've continued to be fine if Norm and Max didn't have to fly out to check on Kiri. That's really where things went downhill, and they had to get the plot moving somehow. No one knew where Jake and his family disappeared to. And those that did, Quaritch couldn't really get to because they were heavily protected. Quaritch more than likely didn't want to risk things. It was possible that everyone thought that Jake and his family would constantly move around Pandora and not stay in the same place too long, which allowed Jake and his family to remain in one place. But eventually Norm and Max screwed up things for Jake by flying out to check on Kiri. The chopper they flew in had a tracking device on it, or the military could pick them up on their radar since they were no longer being protected by the radar interference in the Hallelujah Mountains. So once the military knew where to go, they went straight there and things went from there.
Looks like I'm the only one that liked the movie. I thought the movie was pretty good. Didn't feel like 3 hours to me. Felt 30-40 minutes shorter than what it really was.
I got through the movie perfectly fine. I did have to use the bathroom with about 45-50 minutes left, but I could easily hold it. I've had to hold worse, and worse for shorter movies. And the movie has an overall decent pace. Didn't feel like 3 hours. Felt 30-40 minutes shorter than what it was. Also, you need to subtract 10-12 minutes for end credits 3 hours 12 minutes is with including end credits. Without credits, it's probably 3 hours exact, or maybe 2 hours 55-59 minutes. Oh and also, the showing I was at started about 10-15 minutes late. And I only got 1 trailer. But people are making too big of a deal about the movie's runtime. It's really not that bad. I've seen 90 minute movies that felt longer than Avatar 2. Heck, Eternals felt longer than Avatar 2. Between Avatar 2 and The Batman, I don't like to judge movies anymore by looking at their runtimes. Those two movies felt shorter than some 90 minute movies I've seen throughout the years.
I only got Shazam 2. But I also live in a small-er town that has more of a mom & pop theater chain. It's not AMC or Regal. Definitely not IMAX. Closest IMAX to my town is a minimum of 6 hours away. So with that, the movie theater in my town only gets 3 trailers max instead of 20-30 minutes of trailers like bigger cities, but things can vary from 1 to 3 trailers. Also, once in a while, a movie may not have a trailer and just jump right into the movie. But yeah. Just Shazam 2 for me.
Well, I heard Avatar 3 is already shot/filmed and is in post-production, OR is already mostly shot/filmed and will head to post-production phase soon, so there must be some master/grand plan.
