Way too traumatic for young kids - or me (spoilers)

The slaughter of the Whales was BRUUUUUTAL to watch. Especially since it was a Mom trying to protect it's calf and wouldn't leave it. Then she gets shocked/deafened by depth charges; shot with sound cannons while defenseless on the surface; harpooned with balloons to keep her from diving ; then shot with a massive exploding harpoon to the heart ; all while the calf was swimming around her.
I know it's been done by humans for hundreds of years, but c'mon.
Also A LOT of other violence in this movie. It was beautiful and had some quiet scenes where you could take it all in, but not much time to enjoy - back to the VIOLENCE/Killing/kidnapping/wildlife slaughter/child death/bullying...
I liked the movie for it's aesthetics, but I never want to see it again.

Go cry, snowflake.

reply

well, at least it has a pro-whale message

reply

Madam; this is a movie with blue savage people.
The whales are CGI.... Not real.
Nothing to cry about. No nightmares will occur because of this!!

My curiosity about this movie just rose a little...

I thought this movie was gonzo nuts and way darker than the first one. Cameron says he cut out 20 minutes of gun violence, but the whole damn movie was non stop gun violence. Seeing all the Avatars running around with guns too made the whole thing feel like a murder festival. And the whale scene was bezerko overkill. I was supposed to walk away hating humans but I hated EVERYBODY. Nuke that whole freakin' planet.

Well I guess this is what is normal for kids to watch these days.
You forgot to mention the blonde human kid mind torture scene. Where he was restrained with a mind torture device attached to his brain, he was screaming in pain, and his nose started bleeding. To try and get the kid to give up his friend's location. Charming.
And ya - this has gotta screw with a young viewer's mind somehow, in a dark way.

The movie has countless explosions, killing humans, gun violence and hostage situations but you draw the line at hunting for a made-up whale? Really?

Now I agree this is not a movie for young people, but the whale aspect was very tame compared to the other stuff.

"a made-up whale"

you know the humans (and the blue people) are "made up" too right?
