This movie is one of Verhoeven's best, right there with Robocop, Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct. And I'm not a Dutch.
Almost. I found the dialogue between Baldwin and stewardess at the beginning a bit amusing, like she didn't know what turbulence was.
I feel she was the only memorable thing in the entire movie.
She was a pleasure to watch, but her character was the weakest link in The Batman...
The Batman was the first movie I started to notice her. I've also seen at least X-Men First Class and Mad Max Fury Road without realizing she was in them.
This is one of examples showing that production difficulties can result a better movie (Jaws is another legendary example). I liked that Jabba wasn't show:n to the audience until Return of the Jedi. It was a great buildup for the character when he was only talked about in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. That was all ruined when Lucas had his way in 1997 special editions.
Yeah, that "Mary Sue" just lost the entire crew, was in panic in the end and destroyed the expensive cargo ship for nothing. I would rather call her the final girl, pretty standard character in horror movies at the time. And no self-respecting Mary Sue would agree to do the strip tease act Weaver did in the end... just for the pleasure of (straight) men.
And what makes it even more impressive is that it's directed by a chick. My long dream has been that Kathryn Bigelow would have directed a James Bond movie (before she moved on to boring art movies). She seems to understand testosterone better than many of her male colleagues.
I've seen a few cartoon movies (on television for free) and most of them have been lately so bad or indifferent, that I won't systematically waste my time on them anymore. They just don't give anything to me. If there's something that interests me for some reason, then I'll give it a chance. Like The Batman (2022). I wasn't initially interested in it, but after I read some comments (doesn't need to be positive comment to pique my interest) over here, I gave it a chance and it turned out to be quite good. CGI has turned live action movies into cartoons when it comes to pacing (and laws of physics) and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw The Batman, and it reminded me more of spaghetti westerns.
Just a couple of days ago there was Venom: Let there be carnage on tv. I decided to check it out even though I didn't care for the first movie. I watched maybe half an hour and turned it off.
