Way too traumatic for young kids - or me (spoilers)

The slaughter of the Whales was BRUUUUUTAL to watch. Especially since it was a Mom trying to protect it's calf and wouldn't leave it. Then she gets shocked/deafened by depth charges; shot with sound cannons while defenseless on the surface; harpooned with balloons to keep her from diving ; then shot with a massive exploding harpoon to the heart ; all while the calf was swimming around her.
I know it's been done by humans for hundreds of years, but c'mon.
Also A LOT of other violence in this movie. It was beautiful and had some quiet scenes where you could take it all in, but not much time to enjoy - back to the VIOLENCE/Killing/kidnapping/wildlife slaughter/child death/bullying...
I liked the movie for it's aesthetics, but I never want to see it again.

Yeah for me its harder to think that even though whaling has been banned for a decades on earth, but yet it is still going on mainly by China, but somehow they are doing it because they are saying its "research".

That being a said, I find it hard to believe that they say they only take the half gallon of brain juice, and do nothing with the rest of the "whale". Or did I miss it if they actually used the rest of it for something, seems like a huge waste.

You serious? I was watching way worse when I was a kid or at least exposed to way worse. First of all, I was exposed to Michael Myers, Jason, and Freddy when I was a kid. Pretty much my whole grade/class knew who Michael, Jason, Freddy, Pinhead, and Chucky were by kindergarten or first grade (some classmates were HUGE fans of the big three slasher icons by kindergarten/first grade too). I also watched Pumpkinhead 2 when I was in second or third grade. Then when I was in about third grade I watched Scream. Ghostface was everywhere too, especially at Halloween. Also the 90's was a time that Stallone and Arnold were still in their prime and their movies were everywhere. Most of their movies were R-rated as well. The list goes on. Plus one of the first R-rated movies I watched was Judgment Night with Emilio Estevez and Denis Leary. So yeah. Something is WAY off if Avatar 2 is too traumatic. "Manning up" is STRONGLY recommended/required.

Its all about context.

People watching Avatar are not expecting to see Ichi the killer.

So whale deaths is personally a sensitive issue for you OP?

I agree

The part where one of the navi was being chased by a fish then a bigger fish killed it must have been pretty scary for kids

Pay no attention to the gore addict violence desensitised teenage boy replies in the thread , they clearly have no empathy and are just looking for posts they can disagree with .
