We want manly male protagonists and feminine female companions of theirs

Yes, "we," i.e., the men and women of the world yearn for the handsome, charismatic male leads, accompanied by womanly females. The latter can be smart and resourceful, but nevertheless tender and womanly.

Take Marion Ravenwood in Raiders, for example. She is a strong-willed woman able to take care of herself. But, she is beautiful and feminine at the same time. More specifically, her whole arc is that she starts off as a bit tomboyish tough girl, but her reunion with Indy turns her back into a cuddly, tender woman, without sacrificing her intellect and integrity.

Because, there's nothing wrong about being a woman that falls in love with the hero. And there's nothing wrong about the hero being THE hero of the movie: Confronting the forces of antagonism and, having overcome all the difficulties, taking matters into his own hands and saving the world!

What Cathleen Kennedy is doing is not funny anymore. It's no longer a woke-calling thing. She is truly both devastating cultural legacies AND wreaking financial havoc. The Dial is going to fail. This means she won't be able to cover anywhere near the $300M that was the movie's proclaimed budget, let alone the $700-900M when marketing costs, distribution rights, back-end deals are included. The movie will leave hundreds of millions of losses in its wake. Will studios continue keeping up with her?

reply

Fuck it, why do things by halves? How about he drags the female companion along behind him on a leash? Only allows her to communicate by yapping? Feeds her from his palm, and doesn't let her wear any clothes other than flimsy lingerie?

Now you're getting it! Was that so hard?

What an outdated view on life! Evolution switches between patriarchal and matriarchal societies in a heartbeat. We are now finally in a more harmonized and equal opportunity interlude, just before we are swallowed whole by artificial life. Give it a rest and toss off to your grandfather's Playboy magazines for that feeling of yesteryear.

reply

Um, the reason I watch an Indiana Jones movie is to get that feeling of yesteryear. I don't see any other reason behind making one as well.

reply

This might be a shocker but the movie was made to make money.

reply

And you think "harmonized and equal opportunity" narratives (aka weak males and overly strong women) make money, do you?

reply

For that purpose they shouldn't target your micro bubble...

reply

Maybe you shouldn't look back so much.

reply

Maybe you zoomer fags should learn from the experience of your elders.

reply

Dude, just because you probably got molested by your Sunday school elders does not mean that your INCEL misogyny translates to experience worth sharing.

reply

Sure thing faggot, I'd block you but I bet your account goes mute within 50 posts anyway so why waste the time!

reply

I see all these arguments on here and every time a young person loses an argument, they throw out that word INCEL. It's like the pot calling the kettle black.

reply

So you lost some argument? What a sad time for you!

reply

Why I have never lost one, and I feel nothing like you. It's OK like I tell the people who have lost. Just move on, you'll eventually get over it.

reply

All you did is proclaim yourself a liar.

reply

Stop assuming, I don't proclaim nothing I only state facts. You weak little being ✌🏽

reply

And has it done much of that?

reply

This might be a shocker but it’s losing money due to how it was made.

reply

I think "artificial life" will model itself after a time when men were men and women were glad of it.

reply

I think eventually men and women will continue down this path of evolution (similar to how sci-fi enthusiasts envision aliens to be): genderless, no genitalia, skinny and pasty, with long fingers and big heads.

Incidentally, this already describes many of the high school boys you see these days. Skinny…..ropey little arms with no muscle…..ridiculous poodle hairdoo…..skinny jeans or short-shorts…..and no driver’s license.

reply

LOL, great post.

Terrifying mind you, but great nonetheless.

reply

I'm working at a local college during the summer teaching Science to 1st-6th graders. When I went for training, I couldn't believe how feminized the young men were. They were everything that you said they were.

reply

YOU SPEND TOO MUCH TIME STUDYING HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BODIES.🫤

Let's test that reasoning, shall we?

How about we take a movie, or TV series, which has a female protagonist - a heroine. Do you still want the male companion to be an equal part of the action, decision making and solution? Or are you fine with letting the woman shine?

reply

Just rent a hooker and get it out of your system FFS. This AOL BS has to stop!

reply

Are you typing using a random number generator?

reply

These are not the droids you're looking for.

Besides, he's a bot.

reply

We aren’t living in a harmonized and equal opportunity interlude……we are living in a forced diversity and gender confusion interlude.

The women aren’t thriving, they’ve been stripped of all feminine traits and are now completely hollow characters who lack morals, ethics, likability, you name it.

But put all of this gender confusion aside……these movies all suck today because the characters aren’t likeable or well written and the plots aren’t believable and instead feel “cartoony”.

reply

Do you know what generalizing women like that is called? It's called misogyny.

reply

Here comes the representative of all women everywhere.

reply

And still you wonder why nobody will date you..

reply

Are you saying that on behalf of all women?

reply

In both cases women are being generalized, a sexless Hollow female character is a generalization. Not all women act like Tom boys and have no personality.

Wouldn’t you rather want a better written movie and a better written female character who is likeable and has depth?

reply

The movie sucks,.no doubt.

reply

"Evolution switches between patriarchal and matriarchal societies in a heartbeat" How about no? Tell me when that ever happened? NEVER! See?

reply

I can't speak to this franchise specifically because I don't think the original films hold up and I never thought adding to it would improve that. However, variety is preferable to a lot of people. Having stereotypically masculine male protagonists and feminine female love interests is fine, like O'Connell and Evie in The Mummy (1999). But having masculine female protagonists and not traditionally masculine male leads that aren't love interests is fine too, like Sarah and John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). Different stories require different characters for those stories to work.

reply

I think I was more disappointed that Indy barely even feels like a lead character in his own story anymore but is co-starring with this other woman they're trying to force feed into a spinoff. I think your interpretation of Marion Ravenwood is correct, which is why she's a far more interesting character to team with Indy. I'd say Kathleen Turner with Michael Douglas in Romancing The Stone too. But again, Kennedy needs her spin-offs cause otherwise she'd had nothing.

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/D87QMjRGFQo

reply

She won't see a spin-off when the movie bombs. She did everything to ensure it bombs. Did we see Rian Johnson's new trilogy yet? And The Last Jedi even turned a profit. But no, the backlash was too strong.

reply

I watched your video. I have two suggestions. The first is that you should get some kind of quick intro with some kind of theme music. The second is that you should consider slowing down your pace a bit. Your information is good as are your observations, but it feels like you're running a race. I do that too. I'm a teacher and sometimes I talk too dang fast and cram too much information into too small of a space. The struggle is real. Especially when it's something that I know a lot about. That's just my two cents. I did enjoy your review though.

reply

Thank You. Yes, I know that slowing down is something I need to do. I'm working on it. I need to find an intro too. Thanks

A TEACHER?...LMAO.

reply

32 years.

What have you ever done?

reply

IF YOU...WITH YOUR DERANGED BRAIN...ARE A TEACHER...THAT'S FUCKING SICK...ALL THOSE POOR CHILDREN.

reply

Nice deflection.

reply

LMAO...GYM TEACHER?

reply

Keep deflecting.

reply

You should have answered "Part time."

reply

LOL! I should have. Good thinking on your part. If I could give you an A+ I would.

She's in charge now, but not because anything you were blabbering about, she just knew certain people in high places. It pays to be in that position.

George Lucas wanted his company and his Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchise to be someone he knew and trusted. Kennedy's history with Lucas, alongside her working relationship with his friends Steven Spielberg and John Milius, made her the perfect candidate to take over and usher in a new era for the company.

reply

Spielberg commenting on her during those early years does not bring out any fond memories on his part, though. He says she would interrupt a train of thought of the people participating in a brainstorming session. Plus, she was bad at taking notes of other people's good ideas at those brainstorm sessions. Completely unreliable at these clerical tasks. So, I guess it could be her and Frank Marshall that gave her the clout, because she doesn't seem to have been Spielberg's choice. I doubt Lucas' as well.

This has nothing with the incompetent person running things as being a women, we're just pointing out how they are single handedly destroying thoese franchises. The said person just so happens to be a woman. As you keep pointing out, trying to make it out that way. I keep forgetting on these boards that women aren't allowed to be criticized. Those good old double standards. Have a nice day victim ✌🏽

reply

Don't know what you're ranting about since I haven't seen the movie, but we're not in the 50s anymore.

reply

Personally, I prefer female protagonists over male ones.

reply

What do you prefer the antagonist to be?

reply

It depends on the story. The antagonist could be female, male or inhuman or there could be no antagonist at all.

reply

A woman should have never been put in charge of a movie company that was founded by a man and made masculine movie franchises.

reply

George Lucas even said in an interview back in 1999 when promoting Episode I that “Star Wars” was a boy’s movie.

Now Kathleen Kennedy has practically turned all of Lucasfilm into a softcore femdom movie company. Did Rey ever come across a male character that she couldn’t beat up?

reply

🤣
