Alonzo*
Cause the way he did it wasn't illegal as far as the police are concerned. He was there on business serving an arrest warrant. On top of everything else it made him look good and progressed his career the much more.
He was already dead, his brain just hadn't caught up to the fact. His body was in a fight or flight I doubt there was any real reasoning why he got out of the car and seemed to be making his way to the back.
You make a good point. The first half of the movie it doesn't seem like Alonzo is in much a of hurry. However, it might have been just a cover since he probably was stressed to the max facing nearly certain death.
However, if you piece the college kids was just a way to get drugs for Hoyt and going to side chicks house was like his last bang kinda like your last meal type of deal. Also to check on his son as if it might be the last time he sees him.
Pinning the killing of Roger on Hoyt was in my opinion very important. Alonzo for some reason didn't need that extra heat on him possible due to issues in the past and raising the suspicion of his corruption too high. The 3 wise men seem like they're a little fed up with Alonzo and might be planning their own means to dump him.
In my opinion the Russian plot serves its purpose just fine. It provides a means to move the plot forward and wrap the story up at the end. It was also kinda interesting to see how organized crime can efficiently take somebody out, even a high level officer.
True.
They actually had a lot of plans for Goro but the animatronic kept breaking due the humidity of island they were on. I think they did the best the could without running out of time. Goro actually looked pretty good in his opening scene. Also consider this was movie from the mid 90's made with less than a third of budget Jurassic Park had.
Yup!
It's kinda funny that they didn't believe that they're chosen one could beat Sub Zero on his own. Yet nobody helped ol Johnny out or gave him the heads up he was fighting an undead demon that could breath fire.
Almost all his lines were improv. Linden should have been paid twice for acting and rewriting the script.
True. Even if you're not a MK fan the first movie is easily digestible as a regular non video game movie due to its straight forward plot.
It's not that they didn't try with the sequel it's that they poorly managed and lost everything that made the first work. Linden Ashby's add-lib greatly improved the original script. Getting Paul Anderson at first time director price was a stroke of luck. Say what you will about him he's a very good visual director which is what this movie needed. Lambert, Goddard, and Tagaha were cast very well for their roles.
Producer Kasanoff was overly concerned with staying under budget and getting the sequel out as fast as possible to promote the new game. They pretty much skipped writing, cast the least expensive actors they could find, just promoted the crew from the first movie to replace the non returners, and spent millions traveling around the world for shooting locations, several of which never even made the cut.
Kasanoff should have found another up and coming director since Paul refused to come back. He should have honored Linden's sequel deal. And he should have spent more money on pre-production, writing, SFX.
I would say "technically" he didn't cheat. But yes Raiden totally placed the water buckets before the fight in a effort to help Liu win.
I don't know about the placement of Boagrius. I'd say he takes Menelaus easily. I'd also place money on him over Odysseus and Eudorus. Remember Boagrius killed several other champions which would mean to have a shot at him you'd have to be the best in a small army. I doubt Menelaus, Odysseus are not the best of their kingdom warriors. Eudorus might have been a champion of a small kingdom army but he never fights another reputable fighter so it's hard to say.
Patroclus at the bottom? Remember he did stager Hector. Patroclus studied under Achilles for years and sliced through other warriors just as easily as Achilles and Hector. Given time to reach an older age he could have been just as good as Achilles.
When was Paris shown to be good at sword play?
Dude looks fantastic for 55!! I actually stumbled upon this thread cause I was curious how old he was. At the time I was thinking he looked late 30's early 40's but expected him to be mid 40's but in excellent shape and in movie make up. Never would've guessed 55!
I challenge you to name another actor that looks this good(not necessary younger) for 55. Somebody said Reeves. Please, Frank looks better(not younger) today than reeves looked in Speed 1994. You could argue George Clooney but he doesn't hold a candle physique wise. I believe the only famous person who could surpass him is Brad Pitt, but if Brad Fing Pitt is competition then you've already won. Nevertheless Frank is clearly in the top 0.01% for his age group.
If you need anymore convincing take a look at Gerard Butler(Leading man level) next to Frank. And Frank is older.
Now the real question is how does he do it?
1. Effort. Probably has a very good skin care routine, strict and quality diet, weekly barber visit, and a consistent rigorous weight lifting routine.
2. Genetics. The strong hairline of thick black hair and groomed stubble certainly helps his rugged masculine look. Prominent facial bone structure, and is likely in the top 1% of muscle building genetics.
3. Movie magic. In film and his posted pics look mostly professionally done with quality lighting, makeup, oil, and other ticks of the trade.
4. Roids. Yes, I would say Frank is on HRT given his age. I haven't seen anything that would suggest he's on anything heavier than that. Even if he was it wasn't anything that couldn't be achieved naturally from somebody in the top 1% genetics with a strict, consistent, and effective diet and workout plan.
Depends on how badass the Spartans were in the comics. I like to think the over the top line delivery "In a good way" was Snyder's direction.
Shut up and take my money!
Regardless if Jake got super lucky with the gang and everything would have worked out fine if he hadn't he was a huge liability.
During the Roger scene he refuses to take money and then not only refuses to shoot Roger he takes Alonzo's gun and aims it at his head. It was bad enough that the other guys were ready to shoot him dead right then and there. If he had shot Alonzo they'd both be dead and the other guys would be in prison. That's a huge liability all because Alonzo brought an unknown rookie into the plan. So yes there would have to be a good reason to have Jake there.
Alonzo planning to kill Jake from the beginning is debatable. I'd say he did hence the electronics in the trunk from the beginning. I think the Roger test is mute since he did testify that he shot him. So, as far as anybody's concerned he did.
Alonzo seeming to like Jake was part of his manipulation. Him telling Jake to get out of his car was a push pull. Oh you don't want to smoke this weed? Fine get out of my car btw go write some write some parking tickets. Oh you don't like me opening fire in a neighborhood? Fine get out of my car btw go help that lady with her flat tire. He knows Jake wants to be a high level cop and uses the idea of low level police work the rest of his life to keep him from leaving. He also gives Jake a speech about having a golden eye and how he sees himself in him. Directly after setting the hit up over the phone. Then after Jake survives the hit he tries some BS about passing a test.
I think what makes Alonzo so interesting is his high level of charisma and manipulation. You can never tell what his angle is or if he's being genuine. Even when he's threatening your life he can turn around and make you like him the next minute.
Good points.
I'm not sold on the Jake works better for his plans idea. Infact Jake nearly derailed the whole thing several times and Alonzo almost got shot by him at Rogers'. I think if anything bringing an unknown rookie into play would be far more hazardous than helpful. Certainly didn't make things smoother. Alonzo would have to have a damn good reason to have Jake be apart of it.
The only reason I can see is that Alonzo needed a guy to take the heat for killing Roger. Hence why he's so persistent that the shooter was Jake even tho it wasn't. If shooting Roger wasn't a big deal why not just take the heat himself or one of the other guys? Even with a gun to his head Alonzo still isn't willing to remove Jake as the shooter.
I suppose a good question would be if Alonzo had any say in Jake being assigned to his unit and when he would start. Seems like a hell of a coincidence that a new rookie would be assigned to Alonzo the day he planned to tax Roger and meet the Russians but unlikely things do happen I suppose. On top of that Alonzo was clearly hooked up with more powerful if not most powerful officers. "Lt got our back" " I'll make sure your blood gets to the lab". If he could do that I would say he could also delay a new recruit or move up the start date. At the beginning of the movie Jake's wife says something like everybody is telling him how lucky he is, but I'd say luck was not the factor in his assignment.
Good question.
I don't work for a police department so I'm not sure how internal investigations work. I do know that drinking on the job is not necessarily uncommon for police. And not following the orders of your more experience superior officer is a big no no.
But, I would say he would be suspended without pay since this was probably his first offense. He was a rookie cop and was instructed by his much more experienced and the eyes of the police prestigious superior officer to smoke what he thought was weed and drink on the job. His part in the Sandman theft and crack dealer bust was all support of his superior officer. He did not know the warrant was fake or even that Alonzo stole money. He didn't open fire in a neighborhood only Alonzo after being shot at. He was also witness to crimes but was in danger of being killed himself if he didn't play along and knew he didn't have enough prof to stand against it.
Confronting his superior officer and taking a million into evidence I would assume would save his career if not earn him some kind of award of distinguished service to his community.
The part he would probably need to leave out was the Smiley scene. He unloaded and handed his weapon and left himself defenseless in the presence of armed men who were likely criminals if not at the very least sketchy men not to be trusted.
They were going to say we didn't kill him. He saved my little cousin when he didn't have to and we owed him one. Here's your money back.
I'm sure Smiley knew he was burning a bridge with Alonzo by not killing Jake and I'm sure that was factored into his decision. However, after thinking about it burning Alonzo was less important than his moral principle of killing a good man and cop.
You could say Smiley was a murderer and part of a criminal gang. Why would he care if Jake helped his cousin. That goes into play the interesting grey areas of moral principals.
You could also argue the possible repercussions of burning Alonzo. Could Alonzo officially bust Smiley and his gang later? Maybe, depends on what Smiley had on Alonzo and what their relationship was like. We'd need more info to determine that. Appartnely Smiley wasn't too worried else he wouldn't have let Jake live.
Wow! That would indeed explain why he's doing it. Getting 1 Million a day over 60 years old is a pretty good gig. That's some good walking around money. Thanks for the post!
Impossible, they didn't even finish Annihilation. Dimes to dollars it has a better RT score than Annihilation.
Agreed. I had very low expectations considering the first time director(Simon McQuoid), producer of countless mediocre comedy movies(Todd Garner)and an unknown cast, but this trailer has put it at the top of my want list.
There was an interview with the director about the trailer and he seems like a very intelligent guy with an understanding of the source material.
The trailer showcases well done action choreography with good backgrounds, set pieces and effects. Sub Zero appears menacing and badass. Looks like they did him justice. I'm not thrilled about Scorpion's outfit or his lackluster voice but we'll see. Kano might be a highlight, it seems he might be a humorous anti-hero.
My biggest concern is the script. We didn't get a lot of dialogue and what we did get outside of game placements and humor seems corny/lame in a very CW show way. Another concern is the new character Cole. While I don't mind a new character I don't see the point with an already fully populated base to pull from. Also, this story is probably going to rotate around him and yet they didn't show him saying or doing much of anything in the trailer.
True. I would argue they tried to age Ewan up in EP 2 and 3. But yes to think he went from Ewan to Alex in 19 years is hard to accept.
