It could be part of that, but I feel it was mostly how they treated some of the characters from Aliens that spoiled people's perception of that film. Some of the creature effects hurt the film as well. But Alien 3 still better than anything we have had since.
I think he has talent, but he has directed too few movies to be placed on any pedestal. He made one good, one ok and now his latest came in below expectation and surprisingly low cinemascore (B isn't ideal for good theatrical runs).
I think the main issue with Dalton was he was really better suited to a Bond that was simply a harder character. Connery, Moore and Brosnan were guys that worked well with the lighter side of Bond. If he was age appropriate I could have seen him in the part instead of Craig as the series attempted to be more serious.
I haven't paid much attention to this film so when I saw it opened at 44 mil I thought that was good. But apparently this was below expectations and the B cinemascore is not ideal for a strong second weekend.
Started off stronger than Thor 3, but looks like it will fall short of the BO of that film. It cost considerably more to make.
I ignore the AvP films, they are not great and really the concept works better as a comic. I like the first three main Predator films. I would like to have seen a true sequel to that followed Predators. I was not impressed with what I saw from the previews of The Predator so I have not watched that yet and the new film premise doesn't work for me, people from that time would get wiped out.
Well to be fair, the entire premise is a bit silly as that creature would wipe them all out with little effort. I think that will be the biggest issue with it. I dont think any group of people from this time period would present even a slightly believable foe.
She has been ok to good in some films. I didnt care for her as Captain Marvel. She lacks a certain level of charisma that most of her co stars have in the MCU. I would say it was the writing in the original film, but it an issue that exists in her Avenger appearance and even in interviews with some of her co stars.
I think they are silly. You are limiting yourself quite a bit if the films have to fit your narrow view of things. I also find it silly if people stop watching films because a person involved did something wrong or at least perceived as wrong or it doesn't match your own bias. I can dislike or disagree with a person and still enjoy a film with their involvement.
I have wondered why some of these programs kept getting renewed even though few people watched them.
Its kind of a tough decision, on the one hand he is without question too old. However he is the actor that played the clones, Jango and adult Boba fett (in prequels). Many SW fans would prefer the original actor or at least the actor they have come to associate with the character rather than a recast. He is still fit enough for the part, and it would be a little surprising if the series ran for long enough that his age would become more of an issue than it already is.
If this holds its going to out perform opening weekends of Black Widow, Eternals and Shang Chi combined. It really puts a new light on the performances of those films. Shang Chi goes from performing well for a Marvel film in the Pandemic to being almost as disappointing as Black Widow and Eternals, with the exception that it probably didnt lose money when it left theaters.
This was quick, even by Netflix standards. The internal numbers must have been pretty bad. Glow got three seasons.
When I was watching the film in theater I thought it was good. However, a few the days after that my opinion of it kind of eroded. I still think its the best of the sequel trilogy, and has its moments here and there. It was a film that I felt needed its sequel to boost it in the end. Unfortunately for this film The Last Jedi did it no favors as that film no more works with this as it does with the series as a whole.
JJ should have handled the entire Sequel series and really sat down to map it out properly. That was a critical mistake.
BW was a flop. Shang Chi had a nice domestic run, not world shattering but certainly solid. Its international though was a bit of a disappointment.
I believe Eternals is likely to fail in general. It didn't open strong for a Marvel film, no reason to believe its as well like as Shang Chi based on early reviews. So I wouldn't expect the same kind of hold Shang Chi had going into its second weekend. There will be no China for this film as well so it really needs to massively outperform these last two films in other territories.
So of these films BW and Eternals will likely be considered outright failures and Shang Chi will likely have a loss coming out of theaters but with enough good feelings about it it wont be considered a failure outright. A cheaper sequel might be worth considering for it.
To be honest, I dont know. They have really run the show into the ground. I dont expect them to retcon the last few seasons, but some of the creative choices have been very poor. The Tennent Era was the peak new Who, so perhaps go back to what worked then. The casting will be the most important thing, and it will be interesting to see if Davies is willing to go back to a male doctor.
I suppose that's true. But they could of held the first home viewing options or an exclusive viewing window on their streaming service later and still got most of the benefits of having it on HBO Max. I am not sure getting Dune a bit early will be enough of a subscription driver to offset what it likely cannibalized from its theatrical run.
Releasing Dune simultaneously on streaming was a mistake. There is an audience out there that are going to theaters, maybe not as a large as in the past but certainly enough that this film could have pick up more money over its run.
The Numbers pretty much had all the top 10 underperforming projections, with the exception of Ron's Gone Wrong. Dune did come in at 93% of its projection which isnt too far off.
This is comedy, realistically nothing is out of bounds. The point is to be funny. I dont care about Chappelle's politics, was the joke funny is all I care about. However making fun of politics, current events or social things have been part of comedy since the beginning.
He has said things about all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds.
He is not like say Colbert who ripped Trump all the time, but somehow he has comedy gold in office now and he doesn't seem to have the same vigor going after him.
This is the middle film of a trilogy so it would likely do you best to watch the 2018 and plan to watch the next as well.
I am going to wait till Ends comes out and watch the three films together.
