So let me guess

She is from a Comanche tribe, which have a patriarchal structure and strict defined roles.

But she wants to be a hunter while her tribe doesn't want to allow her to be one - for being a female (hint hint hint).

And the the predator comes, kills all the male hunters and she single handled, like a real, proper strong woman, saves the day and the tribe.

Sounds right?

Did you get upset when Ripley killed the Alien? Was the Bride in Kill Bill too much for you? I bet Wonder Woman really chaps your ass then too.

Prey is in part, a fantasy film, roll with it.

reply

The "problem" with those characters is that they were NOT focused on "look at me, I'm a woman and I'm tough and strong and that's all that matters, the rest can be shit"

Ripley was NOT a woman, was a character that happened to be a woman. Same with the Bride or Wonder Woman in the first movie (the second was shit and they focused exactly on that and the woke elements instead of a good story).

And tbh my favorite character from Aliens is Pvt Vasquez. Tough, strong, etc. But again her character was NOT "look at me, I'm a woman and I can do everything better than any men can do". You could feel the camaraderie and the friendship between the troopers, she was a trooper that happened to be a woman, NOT a woman and that's all.

reply

But if that's what you believe, then why would you say this:

And the the predator comes, kills all the male hunters and she single handled, like a real, proper strong woman, saves the day and the tribe.

There's nothing wrong with her saving the day and the tribe by your reasoning as long as she doesn't focus on her being a woman and being better.
It wouldn't matter what comanche tribes are like.

Because you don't care as long as she just kicks ass like the bride or diana or pvt vasquez.

reply

But you already can see that in the trailer.

1. She is NOT a strong woman, have you seen how she hold that bow or that axe???
2. She is complaining about not being allowed to hunt because she is a woman and protests against the tribe. Damn patriarchy
3. Compare Diana in WW and Diana in WW84, WW84 was a failure because of the woke elements - when you center the story on the woke elements and not the character/story you get shit. If you center the story around the character and the woke elements are very subtle you get Aliens. We see pvt Vasquez being bad ass but no one preaches that's because she is a woman and all the males are weak.

YOU GUYS GET BUTTHURT WAY TOO EASY.πŸ™‚

Can't comment on (1) and (3).
But with (2)...

That's not highlighting that she's a woman out of woke elements. It's a very reasonable thing that would happen. I mean, it's very unlikely that a woman would be hunting in a tribe like this I would assume. So that's just a natural extension of the setting, not that the movie is necessarily focusing on it.

reply

It's even in the trailer, you cannot say that it's not the focus ...

It's the natural extension but when you focus on it it becomes artificial. Yeah, we know the reality, you don't need to slap it over our heads over and over to get it.

reply

Hmm, fair point. I have my issues with the trailer. But that's just not one of them. It just comes off as something underdoggy to insert into the trailer for a dramatic one-liner. But we'll see how it plays out.

Or, I'll probably read first about how it plays out before committing to watching it tbh.

reply

I beg to differ.

It's extremely unlikely that a woman who grew up in a tribal culture whose entire focus is survival – against harsh environmental conditions, food scarcity, dangerous wild animals and enemy tribes – would be more concerned with an individualistic need for self-expression.

In fact, the whole idea of her wanting to be a hunter instead of possibly even disdaining it as "men's work" sounds as plausible as a young Comanche man being very likely to decide what he really wanted to do was gathering fruit, weaving clothing and caring for the tribe's children.

But the thing is, the writers consider hunting a more glamorous and/or important job, and believe the only reason anyone wouldn't do it was if they were actively prevented to – and so, here we are. It's an unfailing hallmark of woke writing: the complete inability to conceive of any world outside of one's terminally online progressive bubble.

okay bud.

You're reading too much into the trailer, or your chauvinism is breaking through. Watch the film then pass judgement.

reply

Judgement can be passed on any bit of information.

Will see after seeing the movie (if)

reply

Pretty much. I’m sure there are some nasty folks in it too. And perhaps a lesbian relationship.

Gotta tick them boxes.

reply

Well to be fair, the entire premise is a bit silly as that creature would wipe them all out with little effort. I think that will be the biggest issue with it. I dont think any group of people from this time period would present even a slightly believable foe.

reply

That's sort of my biggest issue. The movie would have to make this really convincing somehow. But I'm not really optimistic given the way the predator countered the axe attack at point blank.
