Great point, but in the book Noah worked at a scrap yard in New Jersey. I still have 100 pages to read tho... I am so enamoured with this tear-jerker that I am doing a LOT of research about it...BTW, even tho Jim Garner doesn't look a lot like Gosling, he did a great job in his role! L0L Great question! Here is a great answer...Co-dependency! We are ALL co-dependent bcuz our 'culture' has taught us that from cradle to grave! Look at all the 'love songs' in 'pop culture'. Read the lyrics...then meditate on that. I'm 38 years VEGAN, and at 71 years young, I still work out and I've never been sick since 1986! (I got VIOLENTLY ill on GUESS WHAT....shellfish!?!(I've also had 'crabs'! lol) That's right, I'm NOT from this DUMBension! BTW, murdering innocent animals is LEARNED behaviour (totally un-necessary), and NOT natural at all! Of course I don't expect you to get any of this. Our WHOLE lives revolve around the chase of the $$$. It's the way we have all been programmed. I also was abandoned by "The One" after 3 years. She left me for a lawyer. (My ex was a legal-sec.). She was gorgeous, and tender-hearted too. We 'broke up' shortly after a trip to her parents' house across Country. That was decades ago, and she now lives up on the hill in a nice house! C'est le vie! To be fair, I was drinking a lot and that is what instigated her 'desertion'. Moral of the story...a SHALLOW/physical relationship will fizz out, but a deeper SPIRITUAL bond will LAST a much longer time! Too bad I didn't know that then, but there is an expression. "Problem = opportunity." (An opportunity to change for the better). I KNOW this to be SO true now! Live and...LEARN. Actually, from my experience, there's nuthin' worse than ill knees!!!! lol I got 2 separate versions of the DVD at a 2nd hand store, and one is labelled "New Line Platinum Series" on the cover. Both are exactly the same running time tho, 124 minutes. On newer DVDs ala "LOTR, or The Hobbit", there are 2 versions included, "Extended Version", or "Theatrical Version." I usually watch the Extended Version of course. More bang for the buck? lol L0L I love SHORT but 'sweet' replies! MovieFan00, I FF thru the sex scenes bcuz I'm old-fashioned, and that is not the reason I chose to watch this film. That is why I enjoy older B&W movies that still had a semblance of morality in them. ( "A Brief Encounter" is a FAV of mine). This 'plot' is as old as they come, and is very common. FLICKY, I always thought Allie was with Noah...FIRST. So, she left him for Lon, then back to Noah. Of course $$$ usually always wins out! (That happened to me. My ex married a lawyer) Luckily Allie followed her heart, and it worked out in the end! (That only happens in the movies.) lol I'm reading the book and Noah is made out to be a muscular macho man, but Gosling is far from that I'm afraid! Actually most movie-goers nowadaze are teens, so that will be the TARGET audience. Try "A Brief Encounter", which is a 1940s movie, and better quality all-round. "Splendor On The Grass" lol was VERY similar to this movie, esp when at the end, the girl (Natalie Wood) visits her ex ( Warren Beatty) years later and meets his wife. Of course "Love Story" was very good too! I watched that at a theater in Waikiki circa 1971. ONLY 10???? L0L I just noticed at 1:06 into the movie after Allie DESTROYS Noah's fence with her car, his response is, "Do you want to come in?" lol I was thinking..."yeah, and you can maybe DEMOLISH the inside of the house too?" Then "Little Pretty" is so smug after Noah sez, "You can marry Lon and we can be friends?" "Being friends" is the LAST thing any guy wants to hear, esp. from a former lover! I went thru this long ago, and my ex also married a lawyer. (PROFESSIONAL LIAR). There are more parallels too. BTW, if more of us followed the 10 Commandments, we would be MUCH better off in all areas of our lives! I was NEVER a fan of Shakespeare. He comes off as a fag to me! Good answer! The 'chemistry' was NOT there with Mr. FancyPants! (Lon). I'm 71 yrs old but I only 'connected' with ONE woman in my life. We had 3 great yrs together, and I am thankful for that! It was my drinking, and stubborn-ness that ruined it! C'est le vie... Thanx! I agree with you 100%! Many people cannot grasp Grade 5 English grammar skills... Earth is flat but I agree 100% with the rest! Humans are PREDATORS who SLAUGHTER trillions of innocent animals every year! DITTO! NO movie ever made is just entertainment. Yer too late! They already "got a room" and are 'making up' as we type! L0L
