I agree that George tried a little too hard to tie the prequels to the originals. Boba didn’t need to be tied to the imperial army, 3PO and R2 didn’t need to have as big roles as they did, Chewie didn’t need to show up, and so on.
But I didn’t mind seeing Yoda in his prime, it’s pretty cool in hindsight to see how drastically things change for characters like him over the years. I also didn’t mind the Skywalkers being elevated to messianic level, the movies were always about them and were almost biblical in a way, like how the Bible hyped up Jesus but there were other important people too.
Except I don’t want POC characters to be changed either. I don’t want a white Black Panther, Blade, or One Punch Man. I don’t want any character of any race to be changed into any other race, same with gender and sexuality. It just so happens that white characters are the ones suffering the most from color-washing lately.
It's clearly of consequence to Hollywood. They're all about "diversity" and "representation" these days, so tell them to stop fixating on race. All I want is the actors to look like the characters I grew up with, otherwise I'm just watching strangers on a screen.
I personally prefer it if the actors resembled their character's design as much as possible; that includes their race, gender, and/or sexuality, regardless if they have any bearing on their character or not. Some changes are necessary from one medium to another, but only those that are absolutely necessary. In the pre-woke era of Hollywood I was more lenient on the casting since there wasn't an agenda, and casting wasn't based on filling out blue checkmarks.
And besides, it never stops at just fictional characters or characters where their skin has little-to-no bearing on them; Snow White (who's skin color is literally part of her name) and real people like Anne Boleyn have been color-washed, and it's almost always white-to-black, never the other way around, almost like it's down out of spite. So we've got to have zero tolerance for this stuff now, no exceptions.
Then make original roles for non-white actors, stop piggy-backing on the success/popularity of white characters. Or better yet, let non-whites represent themselves by creating their own characters, shows and movies, like what the Koreans did with Squid Game and other stuff, or what the Japanese did with anime and manga. Makes sense, right?
If white-washing is bad, then so is color-washing. Sounds fair, right?
Looks like others addressed your Italian point for me.
As for your other question, it’s the activists in Hollywood and the media that care about race, we just made an observation. So our question is, why do they care about race so much? They’re the ones that complained about white-washing in the first place, even if those whites can play the role quite well, but now they’re the ones pushing black-washing. Why the double standards? And why the particular fixation on blacks? It’s like a creepy fetish that they have, like in that movie “Get Out”.
Not sure what you’re getting at with Falcone. Yes, he’s Italian, ergo, a white villain.
Bruce and Alfred appeared to be the only good white people in the movie, and there were no evil or ambiguous POCs. Even Catwoman was portrayed more sympathetically in this movie, and was all but heroic.
Were you living under a rock?
As of this post, we’ve had four MCU movies, four DCEU movies, The Batman, Fast and Furious 9, James Bond, Godzilla vs Kong, and Dune post-pandemic, many of which were theater-exclusive despite simul-steaming being normal at the time.
In 2022 we’re getting three more MCU films, three more DCEU films, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jurassic Park 6, and Fantastic Beasts 3, among other movies.

some part of the general public is under the assumption that if Polanski rapes a girl who is not a virgin, then it wasn't rape as long as he drugged her first and didn't have to tie her down.

Uhhh… who the hell thinks that?
I thought black was all colors combined, while white was the absence of color.
Catwoman was originally white, so there’s that.
He's the son of a mayor candidate, so I doubt it.
If they can make even the silliest of Batman villians work, they can make Robin work.
He doesn't have to be as quippy as Spider-Man, but he can be a light-hearted balance to Batman's broodiness and work as a character the audience can identify with. He's not rich and connected like Bruce is, he's just a kid from the circus. Robin is a major character in the Batman mythos, and as Nightwing he's one of the most popular superheroes in DC comics, if not superheroes in general. I personally think it's weird to have a Batman series without him, even the Nolan movies had him in some form, though I wish they used Dick Grayson and not some original random guy.
They gotta have Robin, with enough effort they can make it work. With that said, I hope they don't color-wash or gay-wash him, or over-emphasize his retconned gypsy roots that have no bearing on his character. If that were the case, then I'd rather them not have Robin at all. Tim Burton almost had a black Robin in the Keaton movies, I'm glad that never happened.
I can see what you mean, but I personally hope that's not the case. It's probably just like the kid in Batman Begins (the blond one played by Joffrey Baratheon), he kept showing up but he was just there, nothing more.
If there's gonna be more of these Battinson movies, I'd rather they use Dick Grayson. He's a beloved character and has yet to be in a good live-action adaptation.
I’ve seen women refer to other people, including me, as “baby”. Referring to others that way isn’t inherently sexual or romantic. Selina calling that other woman “baby” doesn’t make her bisexual, especially if the movie never outright confirmed and explored that. These reporters and their loaded questions…
Even Matt Reeves said "I don't think we meant to go directly in that way.” Can you interpret it as such? Sure I guess, Reeves also said to go for it if you want. But clearly that wasn’t the intention, so people shouldn’t read too much into it.
I wonder if Otter would complain if people said to leave POC mythologies and folklore alone?
Would he support representation of all races in Journey to the West? News flash: the world was never all-Chinese.
What about Avatar: The Last Airbender’s movie adaptation? Is it racist to hate it now?
Should Wakanda be a melting pot of races? News flash: the world was never all-black.
Joker managed to make $1 billion, and that had no action in it. The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises made over $900 million each, both were relatively slow-paced with less action when compared to your average superhero movie. I think The Batman could do well. The deciding factor will be the 3-hour runtime, which would be acceptable if this was Pattinson's third movie and they were going for an epic finale like with Dark Knight Rises.
Nobody thinks the world is suffering because one political candidate in a specific country didn't win, and the recent inflation in America didn't just sneak up out of nowhere. Has the rest of the world had its problems too? Of course, but we're talking about America right now, and why it's in its current mess.
From shutting down the Keystone pipeline which caused gas prices to surge, to poorly handling the supply chain crisis, among others examples, all of which point to Biden as the common factor. Fortunately for him, there's a war going on half a world away and that'll give all the news outlets something to talk about for a little while. Prices are up, supplies are down, and it doesn't look like it'll get better any time soon.
