You left out the part where we wanted to send a message to the Soviet Union, were afraid that the Soviets would invade Japan and at most we'd obtain only half (similar to Germany), and many powerful people were gearing up to go to war with the Soviets immediately after the Pacific theater ended.
They do seem suspiciously on board with it until they're at the nadir of their careers, then turn around and criticize the system they benefited from.
They were complicit in the furtherance of the system of corruption, and should face some measure of punishment too.

I'd have liked to see more of the language of cinema in the movie, starting with not constraining it to one setting, perhaps getting a change of scenery and pace via flashbacks, and something other than exposition from the characters to actually be shown the past situations they're referring to.
It'd be a different movie at that point, since part of the purpose is to have it take place in just one location, but even other movies that do that (Hateful Eight comes to mind) manage to set part of the movie in other locations, and vary it up so it's not just one or two rooms.
We murder every research animal at the end of their usefulness to us.
We have the money to raise them and experiment on them, but not to give them happiness and peace after they've unwillingly served us. At least farm animals (from good sources) mostly get to enjoy their lives prior to slaughter.

Dozens if not hundreds of similar experiments are continuing to happen even now.
