Movies and series of the week:
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) - Expected more (metal) music, but still innocent fun. Had a good time, I'm glad that they made the movie. 7/10 for the moment, maybe higher in a few weeks when most excellent casual translations ("Volle Kanne Hoschies") become available.
Official Secrets (2019) - Slow but powerful. It lacks distance and clearly takes position. Happens to be close enough to my take on the subject, so, 8/10
Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - To me, the best-looking 4k release of the year. 10/10
Orígenes secretos (2020) - Quirky and cheap turn at the "Unbreakable" theme. Spanish social commentary gets mostly lost in poor dubbing. 7/10 for the Spanish version.
I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) - A brave movie, not only for its time. 9/10
Mortal Engines (2019) - Convoluted and ambitious vanity project. Paused at ~2/3 runtime, will possibly get back to it.
Lucifer Season 5 ep 1-8 (2020) - Feels stretched.
No, it's for anything wireless. Cameras need more throughput, so it's easier to find their signals.
A peak in the spectrum analyzer is a peak, no matter if the payload contains audio, video, commands for a garage door, flight metadata, weather sat images, submarine positions, a mobile network or the key to your neighbor's car.
A software-defined-radio (SDR) can be used for wireless bug detection. Entry level starts with RTLSDRs < 10 bucks, reasonable frequency coverage around ~200. Noisier environments might require additional band-stop filters between SDR and antenna.
As for the software, Salamandra is an easier start than the more general-purpose (but way more powerful) GNU Radio.
And even better: There will be tinfoil!
Cheaper SDRs are not properly shielded. They won't get too hot when only receiving signals.
So if you like wrapping things in tinfoil, this is the setup for you :)
nope.
2. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
Depends on the eggs - if they where washed and if the hen was vaccinated against salmonella.
So in general, Europe doesn't wash eggs and you don't need to refrigerate them. In the US, putting eggs in the fridge isn't a bad idea.
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" won 4 Oscars.
"House of Flying Daggers" - Critics Metascore: 89 (user 91).
"Long Day's Journey into Night" - ran at Cannes 2018, Metascore 88.
"Hero" has a Metascore of 85 and an Oscar Nomination.
Here's a list of the "Best Action Movies of all time", according to critics:

"The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" is not the only Chinese entry.
"The Great Wall" has a score of 4.9 on movie.douban.com, so maybe, it's more about the specific movie.
Bing and Nokia in "Real Steel" add to the alternate reality touch.
Only regarding stay-at-home orders, where civil rights cannot be easily reverted. Our current governmental coalition would need a larger majority or punctual support by opposition parties in order to change constitutional laws, so their hands are more or less bound. But there was uncertainty after our chancellor's exaggerated fearmongering, even some fines collected by police until the supreme court ruled for a payback.
You still have to follow distancing rules. Some locations require wearing a mask. Additionally, nCOV-2 has the same legal status as any other infective disease with obligatory official reporting. So, some freedoms are limited.
Travel is not prohibited, but to phrase it like our foreign minister in the news: "We cannot forbid going to Lombardy, the UK, Sweden or Portugal. We cannot prohibit such travel and we cannot even check. Please use common sense"
Klaus Kinski
Not sure if this makes the difference.
Over here, governments cannot impose stay-at-home orders without breaking the constitution (*). Schools were always open to provide day care, fully reopened now. Bars and restaurants were closed for a few weeks but have reopened weeks ago. Shops are open. Movie theaters are open. Gyms, bowling, all open. Public transport always was. I didn't have a single day off work, nor does anyone I know (besides most teachers). Opera houses and brothels are still closed. Premier Football league is playing again (on screens in sports bars).
At the moment, there is not a single hospitalized COVID-19 patient in my state. 6 new cases in the whole country within 24 hours (from 1000+ on days in March)
Technically, I'm allowed to go out and meet up to 1000 people. I could drive to an Italian beach and back without much hassle (but 2x € 90,- for two PCR tests when crossing borders).
Thing is, I don't and most people don't. COVID-19 is still out there, general mobility stayed down.
There are no new movies to watch. There are no music festivals. Museums are empty and show no new exhibitions. Subways, trains and streets are almost empty.
My cycling club doesn't want to meet. My usual restaurant has a reduced menu (without the good Bohemian stuff, I really miss it) and closes early. Chess-drinking has gone completely from bars to online.
There's no shelter-in-boredom, just not much going on out there worth the risks. Two of my neighbors died because their son went skiing in March. Was skiing worth it? A lot of people knew and miss at least one victim.
Just because people are allowed to resume "normal" life, doesn't mean that they are willing to do it.
Same for businesses. Being allowed to reopen doesn't automatically validate a now changed business case. Some only re-opened to close again.
Footnote (*): Some actually tried to impose a curfew and failed. Our federal chancellor openly lied about such an order he never took into parliament. So in fact, some inhabitants took his words for a curfew. But if you didn't, you simply didn't and law was on your side.
Wastewater checks are a common thing to look for drugs and diseases in European rivers. That's where the cocaine consumption per city numbers come from.
Not sure how Marxism fits in here.
Just finished reading "Kritik der politischen Ökonomie". Don't be afraid, it's less about society than you might think. It's a good read and if you were not bored by the works of Schumpeter, Böhm-Bawerk or maybe Keynes, you'll be surprised by his playful language. There's only one big issue: It doesn't translate. Neither to other languages nor to a living society (which his works actually are not about).
Blade Runner by far
Loved his small role in "knockin' on heaven's door"
A lot of people are just not into fiction.
Matrix, Animatrix and the unreleased Matrix 2021 sequel?
The Ewok Adventure / Caravan of Courage: 23 %
We didn't watch it in IMAX 3D, so there was almost no other audience.
Star Wars is a good movie and I'll stay a fan of it, as long as Han shoots first.
Start with Harmy's Despecialized Edition of Star Wars, it is among the closest you can get to the original impression.
There is a valid point of ending here or just watching it for a second time.
Star Wars is not the kind of Fantasy that profits from filling out all the gaps.
Since it is a stunning movie with analog effects at their peak, there is a Despecialized Edition for The Empire Strikes Back.
There is a valid point of ending here, it doesn't get any better.
ROTJ does some cleanup and starts selling on cute stuff and memorabilia. It is a nice recap while falling asleep.
There, I'd really stop. Both Ewoks movies disappoint but they outline where the journey goes.
