That's infinitely better than what the TLJ gave us! All the buzz around TLJ was about how great Johnson did and how much Kennedy and Disney loved working with him. They even announced doing a whole trilogy with him pre TLJ release. He is absolutely a yes man, will do whatever they tell him to do. He was also very well liked by the fan base... before TLJ released anyway. I'm not a huge fan of looper but it was one of the better movies to come out that year clearly a standout.. I mean shoot best Bruce Willis movie in over a decade. I do believe he's talented and is perfectly capable of doing good movies, but the problem was that he obviously had no idea what to do with what the TFA set up. So he scratched it and wrote his own little side story that would have been fine for a non canon comic but should have never been the basis of a full episode movie. I mean seriously you take out Luke and nothing of any significance happens in this movie. I will say he is great at working with actors and getting the best out of them. His interview was apparently about whether or not he could deliver what they wanted on time and on budget. When it should have been about what story he had in mind and where the character go after TFA. I doubt they even read a script or outline before hiring him. 7.6 and dropping. That's not good at all at this stage. It means TLJ will fall to below 7 by home video release and possibly settle around 6.5. E3 has a 7.6 and has been released for 12 years. Think of how much hate it and the other prequels get. Also think of how many kids and teenagers are reviewing it. Most of the positive reviews have little to no thought put into them. Simply it was awesome! or Best Star Wars yet! or Edge of your set exciting and unpredictable. Most of the people giving it good reviews give every comic book movie praise. In reality if you are satisfied with today's comic book movies then yeah TLJ is good. Also, remember how loved E1 was when it first opened. Let people see it a couple of time and realize what it really is. Give TLJ time and it will be regarded as the worst star wars since the prequels. Hopefully Solo and E9 are better. The Good 1. Empire Strikes Back 10/10 A+ 2. A New Hope 10/10 A+ 3. Force Awakens 9/10 A- (Would Be An A Without the Rehash New Hope Stuff) 4. Rogue One 8/10 B+ (Last Half Hour Including Vader Scenes Boost) 5. Return of the Jedi 8/10 B+ 6. Revenge of the Sith 8/10 B 7. Phantom Menace 7/10 C+ (Duel of Fates Saves This One) The Bad 8. Last Jedi 5/10 C 9. Attack of the Clones 4/10 C- You nailed it. I think everybody who is unhappy with the movie (which is half if not more of the fan base) wanted a truer sequel and proper continuation to the story. Just a good star wars movie that continued the story. TFA set everything up so well and TLJ just pissed it away and stated fresh. Problem is we are 2/3 of the way threw this story and are back at square one with all the characters. The Empire Strikes Back Developed Luke, Han, Leia, Chewy, and Vader. While at the same time adding amazing new characters like Lando and Yoda. We didn't get anything like that with TLJ. We got buffoon Hux and Rose.... ah jeez. We wanted: Answers for the interesting questions raised in TFA We Got: FU it doesn't matter We wanted: More Character Dev for Rey, Poe, Fin, Kylo, Snoke We Got: A huge waste of time, half the movie in Harry potter land. Luke milking a sea cow. A Chase sequence that's anti climatic at best. We Wanted: A space battle and Light saber duels We Got: A Non sense bombing run, porgs, and Plastic Red Army Men battle that held zero emotional weight. Seriously, it's star wars and you have 200 Million dollars put a proper space battle in there. We Wanted: Interesting intelligent dialog We Got: Cartoon Bad Guys, Throw Away Jokes, and the worlds worse romance We Wanted: To know what was so special about Rey.. why is she so powerful how do Kylo and Snoke already know her. Who is she? We Got: She's nobody and she is just good at the force and with a light saber.. because that's what the story needs. We Wanted: To find out who Snoke is how did he come in contact with the first order, how is he so powerful, why does he want Kylo so bad, how does he know who Vader is? We Got: It doesn't matter he's dead. I guess for me personally. The TLJ is fine if you are not invested in the characters, story, or mythology. If you want to go to the theater and see pretty lights, CGI characters, and laugh at silly jokes it's fine. I just expected more You didn't think it was a beautiful, thought provoking shot placed with the intent to keep our minds wondering and pumping our anticipation for the next installment? Well said sir! That's a well laid out statement full of truth. I agree with all your points. 1. The only reason the A wing took out the SSD is because they just lost their Bridge deflector shield. All Fighters and cruisers had been concentrating their assault on it during that point in the battle. We even see an X-wing take out one of ships shield generators. If they had been just straight ramming ships they would have exploded on the deflector shield without doing any damage. 2. Kamikaze tactics are what you would rely on if you were under staffed and equipped. Why not use 1 ship to take down a hole fleet as we saw in the TLJ versus fighting them head to head and losing 10-20 ships to achieve the same outcome. 3. This is star wars a long time ago in a Galaxy far far away. lets keep the logic in that universe and relate it to our own. But anyway your wrong we don't use Kamikaze tactics because people don't sign up for the military to be used as human sacrifices. Kamikaze is a desperation tactic not a choice. Yeah a great tactic. Also, a huge plot hole for all previous movies and all to come. Why fear the empire we could just Kamikaze their fleet into oblivion. Why fear the death star could punch some holes right threw that bad boy. Fear of death? Nah just have a droid at the controls. Much better than what we got. I think she is in that uncomfortable position where she has to try to make everybody happy. So she has to make sure 1st off that these movies make money for Disney. They also have to appease the majority of the fans. She also has to make sure that she is being politically correct and putting together a non offensive cast that includes as many races as possible. I think she is doing a great job so far personally. She has a lot of responsibility to so many people and that can not be easy by any means. But that's just my 2 cents. I think there is some back story in the books about Snoke being stupid rich and the First Order still had control over parts of the Galaxy giving them some tax funds after a peace treaty with the new republic. From what I gather the Empire was in disarray after Endor and the Death of the Emperor. They had no central leader and systems were rising up left and right and funding the rebellion until the rebellion came to equal strength and won some keys battles including Jakku that knocked the Empire on it's butt. After that they signed a peace treaty and kinda kept to there part of the Galaxy and ventured into the unknown regions taking over some systems there. That's where we are assuming they found Snoke and worked a plan to take back the galaxy. Leia knew they were plotting to strike back but the republic didn't believe her so she gathered some loyals and formed a force called the resistance. I also think there is some info about Gen Hux SR having a lot to do with training the new army and stealing children at birth or buying them as slaves. Not entirely sure but just that's what I've gathered more or less. But the real answer is that Disney wanted a retro movie with the TFA so they wanted a lot of the same stuff from the Original trilogy meaning the Empire and Rebels. But the Empire collapsed and Rebels became the republic more or less. So they were like Oh okay um this New Order they are the Bad Guys and they have the Bad Guy ships like star destroyers, storm troopers, and tie fighters and the resistance are the good guys that have the X wings just like the good old days... so audiences wont get confused ya know. They didn't bother explaining the First Order its just a place holder name for the Empire and the Resistance is just a place holder name for the Rebels. After TFA they were just like screw it let everybody know that the First Order is officially the Empire now and the Resistance are the Rebels again. Why? Because that's what Disney wants simplicity. That's what boy genius Rian Johnson came up with. Yeah for real. I about lost it when the mission was to free the dog horses or whatever they were that looked like they came from Harry Potter land. Pointless Chinese Character was the worst. I'm all for diversity in the cast but lets not force it to the point where it's obnoxiously obvious that you're creating characters for that sole purpose. No doubt!! Of all movies not to have a leash on the director. Kennedy must have been in love with RJ's script. They let him do unbelievable crap with this. Disney just came down to make sure he threw some comic book movie jokes in there for the cheap laughs and some new ships(that still look original trilogy) to sell some toys with. True story... He actually warned everybody. I mean they did okay with Luke I understand what they were doing with it but still not the best direction they could have taken by any means. An amazing cliff hanger turned into a throw away joke.... pis poor writing IMO. If I were Kennedy I would have fired Rian the moment I read that line on the script. It's like a quick cheap laugh followed by a puzzling angry emotion of... really did I just see that in a non parody star wars film. Yeah, but I'm not sure Goldblum is the same actor he used to be. Looks like hes seriously lost a step. His role looks brief and dull at best. I seriously doubt we get JP Malcolm shoot not even LW Malcolm. Yup we are the same page! JJ did the impossible with TFA I couldn't believe how well that turned out. Nobody believed it could be done and yet he pulled it off while at the same time making it a retro movie as Disney ask for. I have full faith he will turn this around and bring a fulfilling end to this new trilogy he started. May need some help from Lawrence Kasden tho. Hopefully we can all look back and see TLJ as the weird star wars when it's all said and done. I seriously doubt he will get fired or back out. JJ is far too professional for anything like that in my opinion. Kathleen and Spielberg both respect JJ and is probably always their first choice. I'm sure Kethleen came running to JJ after Colin couldn't put together a decent script for the 3 movie. Yeah that was one of the few actual good moments. Still didn't make sense.. their job was to protect Snoke. Snoke was dead so they actually didn't have a reason to attack. Who did they think was going to take over Snokes Job. What would have improved that scene and the movie it's self is if Kylo turned on Snoke and he and Ray together battled him and his guards. Then at-least we would have seen Snoke in action before his death and the guards would have a reason to fight as well. But just my suggestion.
