*sigh* That wasn't rape, at all. I'm so glad that, unlike Millennials, I can just enjoy a fun movie without getting triggered. Having that mindset must be hell.
Yeah it's one of the most underrated for sure, along with Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker, and The World is Not Enough. Upon rewatching Octopussy recently, I found the movie much better than I remember. I don't know why everyone bashes it. So Bond dresses like a clown in one scene, so what? It was just a disguise and it made perfect sense in the context of the movie.
I think he looked way cooler in Part 7.
Hopefully Doctor Doom or Galactus. Would also be cool to see The Leader, The (real) Mandarin, or Kang. Magneto would be great too but he's already been portrayed perfectly in the X-Men movies.
That would have been way better than the trailer we got, which looks quite generic and mediocre with too much of a political agenda. As a huge fan of this excellent franchise, I really wanna like this movie but it looks like it's gonna be a huge letdown.
Agreed! This is my second favorite of the Moore era (next to Spy Who Loved Me) and one of my all time favorite Bond films in general.
Haha yeah, they absolutely nailed it.
Couldn't disagree more. Really sad that millennials can't enjoy a fun classic movie without getting triggered. I'm so glad I don't suffer from that mindset, must be hell.
Well said. That scene never bothered me either. The disguise was totally necessary and made perfect sense in the context of the film.
This is a pretty common trope in the franchise. Nearly all the villains get plenty of opportunities to kill Bond, but they always screw it up. It's funny too, because they're always quickly offing their henchmen for failing them. But when it comes to 007, they always hesitate or take too long, often putting him in an easily escapable situation with no surveillance. You Only Live Twice has several examples of this, Blofeld had sooo many chances to snuff out his nemesis, but always opted for talking instead. It's even more hilarious when they explain their master plan while providing food for Bond and it's like, "Damn it, he's right there! Shoot him already!" But of course, we need that plot armor or otherwise we wouldn't have this excellent franchise.
This movie isn't nearly as bad as everyone says it is but I always found Diamonds Are Forever to the most underrated.
He was the best part of the movie for sure, and actually made it watchable. Without him, this could have been the worst film in the franchise. He always plays an excellent villain, such as Dracula and Count Dooku.
I actually remember her having braces on my DVD of this film, not even joking. I could have sworn she had them the first few times I watched it. It made so much more sense that way. Jaws opens his mouth to reveal his metal teeth and she smiles as her braces glisten in the sunlight, they share something in common and it's love at first sight! I was shocked when I watched it more recently and she wasn't wearing braces.
I don't really believe in the Mandela effect, however. I guess maybe we were all just really expecting her to be wearing braces in that scene and our mind just sort of filled in the blanks or whatever.
Awesome! Always wanted to see both of them talking together.
That was a rather ridiculous moment for sure. I really hope that wasn't supposed to be some shocking and elaborate twist. I can't believe that Bond was actually fooled by that lame "disguise".
For me, it pretty much comes down to this or Die Another Day as the worst Bond film.
But at least with Die Another Day, which actually started out quite promising with its engaging first half, I can laugh at how ridiculous and stupidly over-the-top it is. It's actually somewhat enjoyable in a "so bad it's good" or "guilty pleasure" kind of way. I feel the same way about Moonraker and A View to a Kill (and possibly even Diamonds Are Forever), they may be cheesy and cartoonish, but at least they're entertaining and memorable on some level.
With Quantum of Solace, however, I just get sooo bored of the grim cheerlessness and the fact that everyone is constantly brooding or pouting. The dialogue is well written but it's way too serious with an overly dramatic and depressing tone. There's some decent action here and there, but the movie is mostly forgettable and hard to sit through with its constant moodiness. To me, the Bond franchise was never supposed to be dark, gritty, and overly realistic. I prefer to have a good time when I watch these films. I wanna wish that I was James Bond, not feel sorry for him. The character works better when he's cocky, brash, and witty rather than being morose and overly vulnerable. Just my opinion.
But yeah, it basically comes down to choosing between two extremes. And overall, I'd rather laugh at a movie for being too silly and campy than be bored by one for trying way too hard to be deep and edgy.

Nah, this one is far from the worst if only because of the great Christopher Lee, who always plays an excellent villain. To me, it pretty much comes down to Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace as the worst Bond film.

In Blofeld's last appearance in the novels by Ian Fleming (specifically You Only Live Twice), Bond finally finishes off his arch nemesis by strangling him to death. How cool would it have been to see that at the end of this movie? Would have been way better than the smacking around of the submarine, which was rather lame and anticlimactic.
