Spend time on Moviechat. One thinks there is great benefit. First thing though is you have to be interested in the topics discussed here. For me, exactly the stuff I like talking about is discussed more here than any other site I'm on. The other benefit is if you get into a discussion, rather than looking stuff up - and then copying and pasting - try as hard as you can to use your brain, go by memory. So what is the benefit? Brain exercise. It needs to be exercised just as the bod does. I think Moviechat is a wonderful place to kill time - of course this is assuming you're a bit older. If you're young - then forget it, go outside and live it up. Well, they were big time back in the day. For me, I don't know any of their 60s work. I do know their 80s work - didn't care for it. THEE era for Floyd is "DSOTM" to "The Wall". One is very aware of all this material. "THe Wall" yeah, some good tracks. Still love the guitar solo in ABITW2. "Animals" is a kind of weird now. "Wish you were Here" - eeh, not bad. A bit slow in areas. Dark Side, the majority of it anyway, still sounds real good to me today. "Great Gig in the SKy" - wow! Love the instrumental as well "Any COlour You Like". Oh yeah, and the opening of it - definitely catches your attention (Speak to Me/Breathe). I think "Dark Side of the Moon" has aged the best. Overall, a very good band, very creative - very relevant in my youth. Hahahah - thanks for making me laugh. It doesn't matter how bad you want it - from what I've seen, we - meaning men, we give out. I'm telling you brother - plenty of strong Italian men in my fam - all of them, by the time they reached their 70s, were completely dominated by the women in their lives. For me, yeah, I like my independent, do as I please lifestyle. I am in my 50s - so one is working extremely hard (meaning exercise , physical fitness) to keep my life as it is. But like I said in the previous message - at some point I'll give out too. Thanks for the response and I respect your opinion as well. In fact, I hope you're right! LOL Women. This is based on exact personal experience. Ok, first of all I'm a man. Myself, all the men I knew, my Father, my Uncles, etc - every single one of us completely dominated for a good 30-40 years. Well, here is the unfortunate part (if you are male) - we run out of gas. I believe it's biology - women are built stronger than men because they can have children. My experience in life was watching all of these strong men, ultimately, reduced to being helpless in the hands of a woman - every single one of them (Grandfathers included). Although working as hard as possible to keep my independent life - one believes it will happen to me, too. We are simply not built for the long term. One is sure others will disagree. I am only going by what I have seen in life - it's convinced me to think this way. HEY, TO ANYONE THAT READS THIS - IF YOU HAPPEN TO READ SOMETHING I WROTE, AND YOU AGREE WITH IT - AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE IT IN YOUR OWN ANSWER.... Please do - I'll take it as a compliment. As for you Maul, BTW Maul? What do you maul, ant holes? I'm done with this and I'm done with you. Best of luck and have a great life. Take care. Hhhmm - interesting. Relatives were a celebration throughout my entire life. In fact, one may be from the last generation that had the huge SUnday get togethers. I don't know if parents do it nowadays. Anyway, it was a celebration, pretty much every Sunday with all the relatives. Parents were a lot of fun growing up - but they had their moments, as do all parents. They weren't at all religious. Even discipline wasn't a big deal. Of course you were expected to stay out of trouble and get good grades. Very few tense moments because neither myself nor my sisters were the troublesome type. Nowadays, as a full fledged adult, I enjoy my parents more than ever. NO tension at all - more so laughing hysterically. Wow - outstanding. Outstanding in the sense that AMeriGirl's answers made total sense - to me! LOL Seriously - I see it exactly the same way. Ok, yeah, well first of all, I couldn't possibly care less if we are copacetic. Your thoughts are as significant to me as the thoughts of a woodpecker. I agreed with what Dancinginthedark said - thus I made it part of my answer. Notice I indicated I respected Dancing's viewpoint. However, if I post it, and I post it into my answer - then it is my opinion - which happens to be an opinion I share with dancing. It's still my opinion. Ok? Got it? Plagiarism? WHat I presented are facts on Kaufman, infused with my opinion. If you don't agree with my opinion, that's fine. And BTW, I didn't look anything up. I use my own brain, which is why I post on Moviechat, to exercise my brain. You can make the argument I share the same opinion with Dancing that Kaufman's fellow comedians aren't genius's either. Everything else I wrote came from my own brain. ANd if you don't believe me, you can GFY on that, too. "ludicrous notion you presented that we should judge someone's genius by their general popularity." I think the only comedian there may be empirical data that indicates he actually is a genius is Woody Allen. I don't know that there is any empirical basis that Kaufman was a genius. As far as his popularity, I was stating facts. I know because I was in my early teens when he passed. Stuff like comedians, music, movies - one was entirely hip on everyone at that time (not like now). He was a non-entity. Any early success he had was completely worn off when he passed. Does this indicate he was or was not a genius, no it doesn't. But in fact, I never said it did, one was simply stating the truth. You have? That's news to me. Hey and GFY on the rest of it. Why don't you enlighten me on what exactly is your opinion of Andy Kaufman? I'll state mine again. Genius, no. Funny? His original material , when he first came out was funny. He himself wasn't all that funny, notice when he got the role on "Taxi" - it was his character, not he himself. Long term staying power, no - completely irrelevant on the comedy scene at his death. Oh and lastly, did he fake his own death? No, he died of a virulent form of Cancer. By the time he decided to take the opinion of Doctors (prior to this he was trying to solve the problem on his own) - it was too late, although, unfortunately for him, he wouldn't have lasted long even if he did follow Doctors orders to a T. However, he may have lasted another year or two. He ended up , as a last resort, buying into some absurd therapy in a foreign country. They happily ripped him off. What a genius! Now, how about you, genius that you are - why don't you tell us all your opinion on ANdy Kaufman? I'm going to be offline for a couple of hours here - so you have plenty of time to exhaust your own brilliance presenting a thorough take on Andy Kaufman. I'm waiting with bated breath! Coming from someone that apparently can't spell correctly. Hey man if you want to add to it and express your opinion, great, I'm all ears. If you're going to sit there and be a judgemental jerk - then you can FO. Got it? Clear enough? Yep, agreed. Didn't work for me either (his movies). One thinks he was comedically much better suited for SNL. However, Farley was hugely successful in both venues. Well, I respect what you are saying - however, the reality is... He wasn't funny enough to maintain an audience. SNL voted him off the show. Yeah he did what he wanted, good for him. But, in retrospect, he was more like a flash in the pan. The other comedians you mentioned above had long term staying power. Hey, you're very welcome. I'm glad I could clue you in to the reality of Kaufman's career. And he isn't a genius, but in fact, none of the rest of them (fellow comedians) are either. Some of them very bright, yes. Genius is an entirely different level. When he first came out, his material was completely original. I should add too, one was a bit insensitive. Even though Kaufman died completely insignificant in terms of comedic importance, it is very sad for someone to pass so young. Well, yeah, maybe it's sad - but it's the truth. One really doesn't know why some in history have tried to classify him as a genius. By the time he passed he was totally irrelevant. Well, speaking from being there during his career. He started off with a bang because his stuff was entirely original. This hooked him up with a successful TV show called "Taxi". He appeared now and then as a character he created. Kaufman called him "Foreign Man". The character's name on "Taxi" was Latka. Ok, all well and good. The problem for Kaufman is his act grew tiresome, very quickly. Instead of going up and up and getting bigger and bigger, he became more and more insignificant. To the point one didn't even know of the wrestling business he did. When Eddie Murphy showed up on the scene, Andy Kaufman was 100% entirely forgotten. When he passed, my thought was "oh yeah, I remember him". It wasn't a big deal , no one really cared. One didn't even know he had cancer. So, there you go, this is Kaufman's career in a nutshell. Does this make him a genius? I doubt it. Without watching the video - a personal observation.... Seems Hollywood is running out of ideas. I suppose it's only natural. At some point you run out of interesting things to explore cinematically. I'm a fan of the Equalizer series. 3 was enough. I found out yesterday 4 and 5 are on the way. I'm a fan of the movie "Orphan". Part 2 was stretching it a bit. FOund out a week or so ago, part 3 is on the way. And the comic book business, OMG - talk about enough is enough. I find out in the upcoming SUperman reboot, a bunch of characters will be introduced. No doubt all having their own series of films, no doubt sequels will be included. Enough already. A lack of original ideas seems to be the current Hollywood problem. Well, this may qualify - plus it's all one could think of (aside from Synchronicity 1 and 2 by The Police). The Beatles did two versions of the same song. This version is known as Revolution #1...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YNhGMq3qhc This next version, much preferred BTW, is simply called "Revolution"..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGLGzRXY5Bw Well, I've seen quite a few of his films - not all of them though. Based on what one has seen - he only did 3 I really liked. Nothing else stands out. I'll take "Misery" at #1. #2 and #3 are a toss-up "The American President" "A Few Good Men" Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else he did one is a fan of. Yeah, agreed on the first sentence. Dakota? I don't know, she's falling into the had her time in the sun and is now fading away category. Hasn't had a hit in years. She even went the comic book route (Madam Web) -which turned out to be another loser.
