How woke is this?
“Jack Reacher” sounds like a hippy name.
shareAlmost none.
You have the strong woman type, you have the black in racist south. But they are well done and nothing too "in your face", mostly how it would be in reality.
A strong woman AND an educated black man in the South?
This show sounds degenerate and anti-American.
A Harvard educated black man (He went to Harvard just to annoy white people), later became a police detective in Boston, and he just had to leave and go to a Southern mostly white town and be the detective there, I am guessing again just to annoy white people.
So surreal you are not sure whether it is woke or racist.
The strong woman bit is more apparent. Other than Reacher and the black detective nearly all men in it are either jug-head or corrupt.

To the OP:
Obviously, you need to look up the term "woke", because it is literally nothing you need to have a problem with. being "woke" simply means to be aware of social injustices around you----nothing less, nothing more. That and having more diversity in movies and TV shows are two different issues. Too many trolls on here seem to have a problem with the second one, which is ridiculous, since we live a very diverse country. So these shows you claim are "woke" are simply reflecting reality as it is. And this show is based on a very popular action hero book series, which is 26 novels deep and counting. You could have at least bothered to look up some info about it before you came to complain about a show you haven't even seen yet. Also tired of people whining about how "woke" something is when they clearly don't understand the meaning of the word. Look it the hell up.
I disagree, as the OP seems to be using the term "woke" with a different connotation than you are stating. To many, the term "woke" refers to an excessive concern with political correctness and the pushing leftist values, even when such values are irrational, inconsistent, or just downright silly.
You can see examples of "wokeness" in many TV shows and movies today. A classic woke trope is that the villain holds conservative political/social views, while the hero is an enlightened freethinker happily living the leftist dream. It becomes downright cringe when such tropes are applied in historical settings.
This^^.
shareThe term "woke" (which was created by black activists) means what I said it means. Only right-wingers are taking it out of context and twisting it around to try and make it mean something bad, just to try and discredit anybody on the left. I also don't know of any show that focuses on politics to the point that your little fictional made-up trope does. And exactly what "'leftist values" are you even talking about? I don't think you even know. It sounds like you narrow-minded, close-minded right-wingers have this rigid stereotype of what people on the left are supposed to be like, and nothing you have said matches them in reality. Despite whatever you think, most people are not thinking about politics or about being on the right or left 24-7 damn days a week. Give it a rest. Everybody dosen't think the same, nor do they have to. Get the hell over yourself with that nonsense.
shareLook, I'm just telling you like it is. Meanings of words change all the time, or can have multiple meanings, and "woke" is one such word. It now has a negative connotation attached to it, or at the very least a connotation of fairly extreme leftism. The word, "woke", by no means has the one, concreted definition that you supplied ("to be aware of social injustices around you...").
Again, I'm just telling you like it is. You might not like that there's a negative connotation attached to the word, but it is what it is. Now that you know, you can better understand people when they use the word in conversation or the discussion forum here.

wow those are inrcedibly well colored in characters .
I cant thin of ANY movies where the characters are so well exposioned that we know their political ideology that well.
Which of these horrible modern "woke" movies are those?
got any examples?
Off the top of my head, Kingdom of Heaven, in which the Orlando Bloom's character is an atheist/agnostic living in the High Middle Ages. I just watched the Amazon series, "Wild", in which the "Christian" girl who merely disagrees with the morality of a homosexual lifestyle is criticized by the rest of the group.
It's really not hard to see these tropes as they're not exactly hidden.
I don't think this is a case of the language evolving - which does happen. This is more a case of different groups having their own definitions - which happens also. You are both correct: activists define is as being aware of social injustice and conservatives define it as excessive political correctness.
When either side over reaches it is a bad thing... sometimes wokeness goes too far and innocent people are cancelled for no good reason other than virtue signaling. Other times the suffering of certain groups is ignored or dismissed even in the face of sometimes deadly social injustice.
However there is an intersection where concerns for legitimate social injustice are still viewed as excessive political correctness by others. This is where it gets interesting.
The term "woke" (which was created by black activists) means what I said it means
Not anymore. You know how language changes with use? often in unexpected and bad directions?
Well thats happened , The conservatives have stolen the word and turned into a parody of its former self to mean "stupid commie shit assaulting my rights as a white man to be top dog"
Theres no getting it back , it wasnt well enough established before this happened
Yeah, wrong. "Woke" is Political Correctness 2.0. Aptly described as tyranny with a smile.
