The film is a bit of a mess and jumps around without a lot of depth. It is entertaining but not a film I have thought about watching very often since I first saw it in 1990.
Mel looks the part hair wise.

Not to mention the White South Africans' are called "Boer's" which means farmer. They are some of the best farmers in the world. When you take their land you are affecting your agriculture and food bowl. They take the land from skilled farmers and give it to blacks who don't know how to farm it effectively.
It's like taking the space shuttle from astronauts and giving it to sci fi nerds.
South Africa has gone to shit since Apartheid ended.
They do that a lot with actresses and singers who start off with the girl next door vibe. For some reason they don't think that is sexy yet is better than glammed up most of the time.
I always think about the ship crew flirting with and I sometimes getting involved with the passengers. I know it was back in the 70's and 80's but I still don't think it would have been acceptable.
