What could go wrong?

Ridley Scott is too unreliable as a director now and has in recent times took a dump on one of his own films before.

It's a sequel nobody asked for to a film that seems like it shouldn't have one.

The writer doesn't scream quality when you look at his record.

Problems already with the budget and production.

I can't see the film being anything other than a massive waste of time and money.

reply

Well, they apparently already finished fillming. So the movie has been done. Just wait for the release and hope for the best

reply

You know what that means - they'll have to offset the losses with plenty of sge/dei money.

reply

Worst case scenario, this is a clusterfuck that might actually end Ridley Scott’s career.

Best case is that he scores not just a hit but the next Top Gun: Maverick.

reply

Your worst case scenario may actually be the best case scenario. I'd prefer for Scott to stop dumping on his previously good films.

reply

Nothing. We're gonna get two hours of people chopping each other up with swords no matter how bad the story might suck. Any addition to the genre is a huge win.

reply

Agreed on your last sentence. I am always happy for more stories set in ancient Rome or Greece. I willl watch almost anything set during this time period, as long as it's not some weird anachronistic woke nonsense or just awfully made.

Right now I'm watching an old 2003 television minseries called Helen of Troy. It's low-budget and feels like something that was made for TV in the early 2000s, but I'm enjoying it.

reply

I believe it doesn't have Adam Driver in it, which is a huge plus.

reply

LOL

Not an Adam Driver fan or just tired of seeing him?

reply

Very tired, indeed. He has been in movies from Star Wars to historical drama in the recent years. He must have the best agent in Hollywood. Never been impressed by his presence.

reply

"It's a sequel nobody asked for to a film that seems like it shouldn't have one."

f*** exactly.
why the need to ruin another great film with a subpar sequel...

reply

Jaws
Halloween
Rocky
Superman The Movie
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Exorcist
Dirty Harry
First Blood
...

These movies weren't ruined by their sequels, why would this be?

reply

Superman 2 was fun, and Dirty Harry had 2 great followups, but the rest of the films you listed had subpar sequels.

reply

How does a sequel ruin the original film? Does it somehow change the first movie?

reply

true but i feel like Gladiator had an ending. buddy died, the evil emperor died, the slave was freed etc
a sequel would be rather pointless.

reply

As I see it, the sequel in no way impacts the first film. I am looking forward to it because if it's a good film, then I have a another good movie to watch. And if it sucks, then I can watch it once and then promptly ignore it.

In any case, I have enough faith in Ridley to where I think that it will at least be an interesting watch even if it's not a classic like the first film is.

reply

valid point. let me know if you actually enjoy it,
and i'll give it a whirl.

reply

The trailer just dropped today. The awful and inappropriate Jay-Z music aside, it actually looks pretty good.

reply

The retcon of Scream 3 has forever tainted my mind. I personally don't accept it, but since I did see the movie, I'll always remember how they changed the circumstances surrounding the first movie. I wish brain bleach was a real thing.

reply

Ah. I'm sure that I saw Scream 3 but I have never cared enough about the franchise to take any of it seriously and I have to say that I remember nothing at all about that movie. Perhaps we should switch places.

reply

If it goes well, look for Titanic II in the near future.

reply

Rose and the door had a son?

reply

There it is. 300 billion dollar production just waiting to be made.

reply

Titanic II will probably cash-in on the doomed voyage/implosion of the Titan submersible..

Perfectly put.
