I think this show did a great job

In convincing me to go back and watch the movie trilogy instead. I haven't seen them in probably over 10 years.

Also going to dive into the extended editions for the first time.

Thanks, Amazon!

The LotR movies were okay but they are overrated. Generally speaking the casting was off and the locations were mediocre. Peter Jackson did his best and it's an earnest effort but the guy is a hack. And yes I know Jackson's a billionaire but then so is Jeff Bezos.

reply

Wait....is Bezos a hack?

reply

And yes I know Jackson's a billionaire but then so is Jeff Bezos.

reply

Yes, I can read.
You are clearly implying that Bezos is nothing special. If he is a billionaire anyone can be.
How so?

reply

Wait....you can read minds ?

reply

No man, just what you fucking wrote.
If I say "Meryl Streep is an oscar winner. But so is Gwyneth Paltrow", what the hell do you think I'm implying?
a~Paltrow is not that special
b~Oscars mean nothing
c~Streep's worth shold not be determined by her oscars
d~all of the above
or
e~YOU do not know what it means

reply

Why don't you go take a flying fuck at the moon.

reply

That answer is even more stupid than e~
It's f~ the answer of a moron who cannot even understand the meaning of what he writes.

reply

I'm sure a famous director like yourself can do a proper remake then!

reply

You shouldn't be so sure mon ami. How do you know that I am a famous director !? Tu es mille fois idiot !

reply

It’s called sarcasm, look it up ;)

reply

I think if they took a random hobo off the street and made him drink a bunch of coffee he could probably write and direct something better than what we got.

reply

And with a higher chance that he actually read the books and watched the movies, three times.

reply

Who was poorly cast in the LOTR trilogy?

reply

Elijah Wood - too soft and effeminate to play Frodo
Ian McKellen - looked more like a rustic villager than the greatest wizard of the age
Christopher Lee - was too old and past it for Saruman
Cate Blanchett - was all at sea with her Galadriel
Hugo Weaving - was just terrible as Elrond

reply

Christopher Lee was too old to play a thousand-year-old Wizard?

reply

At around 80 he was suffering from the effects of old age, he couldn't move at all freely.

reply

[deleted]

If you say so.

reply

[deleted]

Too right ? Are you Australian ?

reply

I am, what's your point?

reply

I concur that Hugo as Elrond was uninspired, just wasn't a fan...but it could have been a lot worse.

The others were quite good imo.

Please tell us who you would have cast in all those roles?

reply

The extended versions are an improvement over the theatrical versions especially for the last two movies.

reply

If you like that crappy stew scene.

reply

This scene?
https://youtu.be/MBLwkGb71W4

That scene gives us information about Aragon, his people and family in a humorous way.

What's also funny is that her dead husband is barely cold in the ground and she's trying to get hubby #2.

reply

Who do you think Eowyn was married to that was "barely cold in the ground"?

reply

After that you can watch The Hobbit M4 edit. It cuts 9 hours of crap down to a 4 hour movie that closely follows the book.

reply

I'll give it a go, thx

reply

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was outstanding. So many memorable moments I can't even count. Hollywood needs to learn to leave well enough alone, but we all know that will never happen because at the end of the day it's a business.

reply

I love the extended editions of the Peter Jackson films. My family's gonna go watch our copies as well.

reply

At least the original films incorporated Tolkien's sensibility for the most part. This series doesn't do that at all.

reply

What do you mean by Tolkien's sensibility?

reply

Comprises many things, but the one that comes to mind first is the storytelling technique. A Tolkien story begins with one person with a sense of purpose. Others may then join and the group may split for a while, but they will come back together in the end, those who survive. It does not start with four or five different threads that appear to have nothing to do with one another. In its way a Tolkien story engenders and keeps our interest in characters. That's really not happening in the technique being used here.

reply

Ya know, I've seen the trilogy probably three times but never watched the extended. About time to get around to that.
