How did this man get famous?

I saw his interview Trump last night?

His questions were all over the place, complete soft-ball.

reply

People like him because he comes off like a regular guy.

reply

Yeah he was always a cool dude. I remembering watching him all the time as a kiddo when he was a host of Fear Factor and thinking he was a chill dude. His standup isn't super funny in my opinion but he is consistently funny in conversation. I think the strongest quality that makes his show entertaining to listen to because of his genuine curiosity for all sorts of scientific topics. He brings people who are very intelligent and asks questions a regular guy like myself would like to know. Gets people to explain complicated things in a way everyone can understand

reply

Joe Rogan is a dumbass and everyone knows it.

He is not a cool guy at all. He has no positions on anything. His role is to sit on the fence and say, "Democrats are bad, Republicans are bad, they're both bad! Everyone can agree with that right?? Just don't take a side on anything. Be a complete pussy, then have Trump on your podcast and use that opportunity to praise him.

Joe Rogan is a joke, him and Bill Maher have no credibility left.
They are both libertarian morons.

Nobody gives a shit what Joe Rogan thinks about anything anymore.
He's a guy who got famous as a REALITY SHOW HOST. He didn't get popular as a COMEDIAN.

Because he was never a great comedian. Ask any comedian. Is Joe Rogan any good? I've never heard a single other comedian say anything positive about Joe Rogan. In fact, I don't think the comedy world even wants him in their community. The only thing he has is his conspiracy theory Podcast, so Joe Rogan can distribute his KoolAid mixture of conspiracy and bullshit to his sorely uneducated and illiterate viewers.

reply

“In fact, I don't think the comedy world even wants him in their community”

You may want to do some research and then revise this statement.

reply

Okay. Name 1 RESPECTABLE Standup comedian who thinks Joe Rogan is a funny or talented comedian.

Name ONE and I will be amazed. A RESPECTABLE COMEDIAN, that means not Carlos Mencia or Dane Cook.

reply

Joe may not be the best standup but loves it and is spending lot of money building a great comedy club. The community loves him even tho he isn't the most talented

reply

I'm not a huge Rogan fan but you don't understand his show.

It's like an average people talk show.

In addition, he has a large amount of comedian fans as he promotes their careers. I heard one comedian say that Rogan paid his rent etc so that he could get started.

Meanwhile, no intelligent person is Republican or Democrat because both camps are like religions and it's crazy/stupid to think that any group of people is 100% correct about philosophical concepts.

I have always worked in an academic intellectual field that has practical applications are I don't know anyone who believes in either party. Many people I know don't vote for this reason.

So, Rogan has the correct position.

reply

You're not a huge Joe Rogan fan , yet you watch his conspiracy-laden, koolaid-for-the-masses "Podcast".

Podcasts are for people who don't get enough attention in real life so they have to make a "PODCAST". They never have anything worthwhile to say, or any new facts to unearth . IT's just someone who is attention starved, meandering for an hour. About nonsense. That's pretty much every podcast.
Even the good podcasts are just filler. A podcast is 99.99% filler and maybe 0.001% content. That's why I don't waste my time watching podcasts. They are for the easily-led, and woefully uninformed , those who cannot deduce facts or information themselves so they need it spoonfed to them, and ultra-processed.

Obviously you are a Joe Rogan fan if you watch his podcast. You're just trying to sugarcoat your reply by making it seem like you don't really like him that much, you just casually watch. Give me a break. That is some Grade A Bullshit right there if I have ever seen it.

reply

He NEVER said he listens to podcasts all day, he has a job!
I don't listen unless he has an important guest (not Trump, conspiracy nuts, morons).
There are plenty of selected short clips on his channel.

reply

Your post is moronic and childish.

Rogan got paid 250 million to do his show and each episode makes 100k, which is pretty good for chatting about average or ridiculous topics.

In addition, radio talk shows and TV have existed since the beginning of such media. There is no difference between any talk show based on what media presents it, lol.

People can consume any media they what and again, your thoughts are those of a moron.

reply

I agree.

I'm older than him and he reminds me of positive average people I grew up with.

I love all kinds of topics and I'm a constant learner. Also, I'm a huge fitness guy and have been at the gym most days of the week since I was a teen. He's like a cool gym guy who made it into a mass media position.

Many people are used to fake "professor" types who can't bring themselves to say they believe in something wild or don't know what they are talking about. That's why many people don't like Rogan.

His show is like a family or friends sitting around, which is why many people like it.

What a POS. Who is he? ROFL? Is UFC now more important than a war reporter embedded?

This fat phuck should have been arrested in the Nazi 'era so he can report back ...

What an asshole ... who is this dumb fuck. Why not question him?

reply

The point of Rogan is to have friendly interesting discussions.

The one with Trump had Rogan talking to Trump like a guy he knows or if Trump was in you living room. You probably wouldn't be freaking out like you are here if he was.

Toward the end of the interview, Trump noted that he doesn't like Harris and thinks she is profoundly stupid and would do horribly on the show. Rogan said he would like to talk to her as a normal person to get to know her.

That's typically what his show is about.

reply

But you can talk to "regular guys" anywhere. Why him?

reply

You have to be a smart regular guy to have these convos and know other ones. Not everyone is lucky.

I'm always researching things and already know most of the topics Rogan discusses, so I don't watch frequently. I do enjoy wild topics though because they are amusing.

reply

His interview style is how he gets people to open up and start saying all kinds of stuff they normally wouldn't talk about. He often plays dumb so his guests have to explain everything, which makes for engaging and interesting content for the plebs.

reply

He reminds me of how Simon Mayo is disingenous during Mark Kermode's film reviews.

reply

I enjoy his podcast. As said above he seems like a regular guy, and I like the way he has guests of all political persuasions. He doesn’t seem to come at them with a personal agenda either.

I would say Joe himself would never claim he’s a hardline journalist. He’s just a guy shooting the breeze, which I’d say is the secret to his massive success. He’s very likeable.

I won’t be watching or listening to his Trump interview though. I’ve already heard enough from that man to last me a lifetime, and then some.

This video points at one oddity on JRE -

reply

He was much smarter than Trump on Aliens. Trump thinks they're on Mars, Joe actually follows the Mars missions. All that access to classifed docs didn't make Trump smarter!

reply

A better question is: How does this man consider himself a standup comedian? I swear I've never heard him say anything even remotely LOL funny. Yet when he gets onto the subject of standup comedy he WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT and he acts as if he's up there with the greats. It's bewildering.

reply

I would argue that most stand up comedians are not 'funny' either.
Watch their interviews - I see a lot of average drama actors (since those interviews are the ones we are usually exposed to), who are way funnier than an average stand-up comedian. Many stand-up actors lack the improvisational funny bone - they might be able to come up with funny bits after a long time of thinking, otherwise, their comedic IQ is actually pretty low. This also applies to the 'greats', btw.

So, in that regard, JR ain't that much different from the rest. At the same time, there are a LOT of genuinely funny people who don't do stand-up/comedy, which is fascinating.

reply

I guess it's because those non-comics are more concerned with being pragmatic than funny.

reply

All I'm saying is - talents and jobs are often mismatched. Peeps who would have been great stand-up comedians are doing something else, while those with low comedic IQ are often stand-up comics. This is not to say that peeps with low comedic IQ are bad at comedy - it just that it takes a long time for them to come up with funny bits (most stand up specials take many months to write for most 'greats'), which means they are seldom able to showcase improvisational humour during a conversation.

He's a college dropout who pursued a standup comedy career before landing a supporting cast role on the 90's comedy show Newsradio. He became more famous as the host of Fear Factor, a reality show that featured contestants competing by performing grotesque acts like eating bugs or bull testicles.

It amazes me that this guy has a huge talk show but some people do somehow become huge social media stars. I don't think he should interview controversial figures since he does not have the training or intelligence to ask follow-up questions or to challenge the guest's falsehoods. He does have a natural ability to carry on a conversation and that's important for a talk show host.

reply

He was pretty tough in a passive-aggressive way when he played devil's advocate while talking to the insufferably repetitive Bart Sibrel about the moon landings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7xu0t9dTbI&t=5897s

reply

Rogan should not have invited the guy on his show since he doesn't appear to have any education or expertise. The nutjob never should have been given a large platform to spew his nonsense. He also has multiple DUI's and a vandalism arrest when he was working as a taxi driver. He's also the guy that Buzz Aldrin punched in the face.

In a world where a noxious putz like Trump can get elected and possibly REelected POTUS, I can’t be surprised that noxious putzes like Rogan or Hannity or Carlson or Limburger became ‘thought leaders’.

The blind prefers the blind to lead them. Because - yeah - they’re blind.
