I forgot the Lego Batman. I haven't seen it, but that already makes it better than THE Batman.

:-) lol

Have you actually seen The Batman?

reply

Nah. The Batman is great. Near the top. Your opinion is very flawed. Ask....anyone.

reply

I don't think he's even seen it.

reply

Agreed. Even if a person doesn't like The Batman, OP's clearly got a biased agenda here.

Suprised you ranked The Batman so low seeing as you like over long bloated runtimes.

reply

My biggest complaint about the movie is its painfully too long...

That's also my biggest complaint with the Snyder cut of Justice League... while I feel the movie Is a stunning improvement over Whedon's shitshow, I feel there's absolutely at least 45 minutes that should have been cut out.

I can't really think off the top of my head of too many movies over three hours that I actually like..... Maybe Titanic?...

Oh wait, I got it, the Lord of the rings.

All three movies almost over three hours... And I consider all 3 movies absolutely incredible.... In my opinion the greatest trilogy of all time and 3 of the greatest individual movies of all time

reply

There are plenty of great movies 3 hours or longer. It depends on the story you want to tell. Seven Samurai is 3 and a half hours long, and that movie never drags or feels like it is too long. Brave heart is 3 hours long, and never feels long.

The Russos did Infinity War in a tight 2 and half hours. But Snyder needs 4 hours to tell a simpler story with less characters. It grates on my nerves when people Bash Whedon for his cut of Justice League. He came in mid production and had to get the runtime under 2 hours, and try to tell a coherent story. Let's see Snyder's 2 hour version, and then we can judge how good or bad a job Whedon did. But I digress.

Batman Begins managed to tell Batmans entire origin and complete the story withing 2 and half hours.

Or let's take a more comparable, movie, Seven. That movie is masterclass in pacing and efficiency of screen time. Barely over 2 hours, and look what was accomplished. But The Batman need 3 hours? What a joke. Just bad movie making.

I agree with pretty much everything you said

Is the Snyder Cut of Justice League really THAT much better? I haven't seen either...

Is the Snyder Cut of Justice League really THAT much better? I haven't seen either...

^In my opinion yes

and first let me say I considered Batman V Superman to be the single biggest creative failure in Hollywood history and I consider Justice League 2017 to be the single worst film I've ever seen

For me what Zack Snyder did with Batman V Superman and Justice League is basically unforgivable. I had no hope or zero want for a Snyder cut.

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut what it comes down to for me is, with the addition of Darkseid and Steppenwolf's full story fleshed out and motives revealed it makes the movie a completely different movie.

The action scenes are also much much better.

And the overall story actually somewhat makes sense.

Now with that being said again this movie is way too long theres easily 45 minutes that should be cut.

And I also believe that I would not like the movie as much as I do had I not seen the God awful Joss Whedon cut of Justice League. I think this movie does greatly benefit from seeing the worst possible version of this movie, Simply put you cannot help but be surprised by the improvement of this movie because of just how horrifically awful Joss Whedon's cut was

bottom line though for me it's all about Darkseid and Steppenwolf , in the Snyder cut , the villains are actually fleshed out and truly makes sense and feel like worthy threats For a Justice League film

reply

To agree with what the other guy said, yes. Definitely. I didn't believe it at first but when I finally watched it...yeah plot points make more sense. Some plot points are straight better or cooler. Some action scenes make more sense and look cooler to boot.

Hell, watching this has even inspired me to check out the pair of Exorcist prequels just to see how two creative directions with mostly the same footage could be.

reply

I thought both were terrible, but then again I think it’s very difficult to make a good follow up to BvS as it killed the DCEU dead on arrival (killing off Superman in only his second film was the final nail in the coffin of that film for me.) Any follow up to that film was doomed to fail from the start.

So with the Snyder Cut we have the same basic framework of the story of Batman bringing the team together and gathering the Mother Boxes to resurrect Superman, except now it’s four hours long and even more of a slog (there’s a lot of slow-mo used, classic Snyder.)

You get more Darkseid and Steppenwolf this time and that’s great to see their motivations more fleshed out, but whenever the film cut back to the dull story of the heroes getting the mother boxes to bring back Superman I quickly lost interest.

The Cyborg subplot was pretty good though but that should have been it’s own film and not added into a film that was already overstuffed to begin with.

Overall, you’re not missing much by skipping both versions of the film.

reply

Well, it depends on what you consider THAT much better to mean. Is a slap in the face THAT much better than a kick in the balls?
Snyder took 4 hours to passably achieve what most directors can do in 2. It is better than the 2 hours cut, but it is 4 hours. Would you rather waste 2 hours watching a terrible film, or 4 hours watching a pointless and mediocre one?

reply

@alienzen Agree with your list.

Finally a sane person.

I would put Batman and Batman Returns at the top though (I'm an 80s child). Michael Keaton for me was the best Batman.

1. Batman
2. Batman returns
3. The Dark Knight
4. Batman Begins
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Justice League
7. Batman 4 ever
8. Batman and Robin
9. Batman: The movie - I always think of Derek and Rodney Trotter from Only Fools and Horses. :-) lol
10. Batman v Superman
11. THE Batman

Robert Pattison wasn't bad in The Batman (better than Batfleck), but the movie was disappointing and felt too long. They should have cut it down to 2 hours. I love long running film times (LOTRs, Gone With The Wind etc..), but it has to be done right with a good story. Joker (the film) was amazing and I feel like The Batman should have been written in the same kind of style/tone.

I am surprised to see many people really loved the film. Think this movie is like Marmite. At the screening I went to, there were some that laughed at points they were not supposed to be laughing at. Like when Gordon is interrogating Penguin asking non stop questions and then he shouts really loudly. People in the row in front laughed as it was so over the top. So I assumed after watching it that the majority of people didn't like the film.

The things I didn't like with The Batman:

- Paul Dano (plays the same role most of the time) and he was ridiculously bad as The Ridler with his over acting whiny screeching voice.

- The constant music throughout. It was distracting and what was with the Darth Vader type score? Every time the first 3 notes played the rest of Darth Vader's tune was in my head. :-) lol

- Duration. Far too long.

- The Script. It just seemed all over the place to me with different genres rolled into one.

Good points:

Cast were spot on (apart from Dano).
Really can't think of anything else. A real shame as I wanted to like it.

reply

Don't agree with the cast being good. Farrell and Kratitz were good but not great. Pattinson is easily the worst Batman. Serkis was badly miscast and misused.

The only good point was some of the visuals, when you could see what was happening through the darkness and rain.

reply

Gosh I completely forgot about Serkis, which says a lot as I’m a huge LOTRs fan. :-) lol I agree that he was miscast. I think Pattison was good when wearing the suit, but bad when playing Bruce Wayne. Who was your favourite Batman?

reply

Don't know, I am not really attached to any of them. Although thinking about it I just remembered that Val Kilmer and George Clooney exist. So Pattinson is probably not the worst.
