So let me understand, in a movie about female supremacy...
the best performance by far come from a male actor?
and not even by one of the talent male actors in Hollywood.
Interesting.
the best performance by far come from a male actor?

Interesting.
More or less.
shareIronic, isn't it? Never thought Ken would come out as the underdog favorite.
shareThe Barbies in the movie behave a bit like bullies, or at least they exhibit haughty and superior behavior toward the Kens. As a result, the audience feels sympathy for Ken. In addition, unlike other characters in the film, he does not view love as something to be dismissed.

Who is Alan?
share[deleted]
Ohhhh Allan.
As I said to Kowalski, "Cera, in every darn movie, he... well... plays Cera".
Kowalski's a troll, best to ignore him. He loves getting attention, so the best thing to do is starve him of oxygen.
shareI HAVE FRIENDS HERE...I PARTICPATE IN THREADS FROM ALL OVER...GD,MOVIE BOARDS,POLITICS EVEN...I PLAY GAMES AND ATTEMPT TO START CONVERSATIONS...WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU DO?...THINK BEFORE YOU CALL PEOPLE NAMES THAT BELONG TO YOURSELF.
shareYou really should quit the all caps thing, though. Damn. Makes you look like a screaming moron - no offence intended, lol
share25 YEARS ONLINE...OVER FIVE HERE...ALL IN CAPS...IT'S A LIFETIME GIMMICK AT THIS POINT...ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW ME ...YOU GET USED TO IT...PROBABLY.🙂
shareThere *is* an ignore button here. I don't wanna get used to it. But you do you.
shareWHAT?...WHY?...WHY WOULD YOU IGNORE ME?...I AM A VERY NICE GUY...I LOVE MOVIES AND MY DAUGHTER...I MAKE JOKES...I AM TRULY SORRY IF MY CAPS BOTHER YOU...BUT THAT IS NOT THEIR POINT...THEY ARE A PART OF WHO I AM AT THIS POINT...I GENINELY HOPE TO CHAT WITH YOU DOWN THE ROAD AND HOPE YOU WON'T LET EARLY ASSUMPTION JADE YOU WHERE I AM CONCERNED.
shareI enjoy to discuss with both of you.
Disagreement is not a bad thing.
About Cera, I think he playing himself very well, but still, he only play himself in every darn movie. To a certain extent one can appreciate a actor who doesn't try to be something he is not. There are comedy actors who try to play serious characters and vice versa - and it doesn't always work out.
You pretend to be a woman on here and 'kowalski' is the troll? lol
shareI put Kowalski on ignore a long time ago when I stated I liked a movie he doesn’t. He still thinks he can get my attention, he’s just pathetic.
shareSo did I. He keeps telling everyone I'm a man, and has managed to fool just one idiot on this website. Why anyone would be stupid enough to believe him, just because he shouts the most, I have no idea.
shareYou can just tell he's a loser in real life. Someone who has their life together, or at least working toward getting their life together, and taking personal responsibility wouldn't act like he does.
shareWHAT MOVIE DID YOU LIKE THAT I DIDN'T...IF I WAS RUDE I AM SORRY...REALLY...PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES...I AM ALWAYS WORKING TO BETTER MYSELF...USUALLY I AM POLITE TO PEOPLE ABOUT MOVIES THEY LIKE AND MOVIES THEY DON'T...SO...WHAT MOVIE WAS IT?
shareKowalski attitude towards you shows how much of a chauvinist he is. He expects all women to think and act the same.
shareI could tell immediately after reading your posts that you are a dude.
shareYeah, I mean, is it any wonder he found out about "the patriarchy" (which is a word only stupid feminists use, not regular people) and tried implementing it in Barbieland as revenge? Even worse, there was no reasonable compromise made at the end of the movie! The Barbies were still in charge at the end and the Kens were still second-class citizens!
shareINCORRECT...YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE AS YOU KEEP REPEATING FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT IT.
shareI agree. They could have concluded the film with a decision regarding democratic elections or the establishment of an egalitarian constitution. In the worst case, the elections might have resulted in one side being in the opposition, but at least they would have had the opportunity to influence decision-making. Instead, they chose to end the film by preserving the totalitarian regime.
It's pretty amazing how much the movie is full of nonsense that lacks any moral basis. Consider "the patriarchy," for instance, an abstract and nebulous concept that bears little relevance to liberal democracies in the 21st century. Even if we were to accept it as presented, is the proposed solution to establish a similar regime exclusively for women? Had the film not posed as an educational endeavor, I might not have taken its plot seriously. However, this is a film that, right from the outset, proclaims its intention to educate viewers in support of a particular ideology, so naturally it exposed to criticism for the ideology they wants to promote.
A lot of people pointed out how stupid it was the way the men in the real world treated Barbie. I hate unrealistic depictions like that. It also made no sense that she got arrested. GG just wanted to use the humor of having her get a mugshot and being stuck in jail, never mind that it makes no sense to the plot. Even actual kid-oriented films have better-written plotlines than that.
shareThis movie was SATIRE, Do you 'hate' the unrealistic depictions of anchormen in Anchorman? So absurd. Only someone who has a problem with women would take this movie seriously.
shareThere are tons of reviews by people who took this movie seriously and consider it to be a feminist masterpiece. Do you think they have a problem with women?
share[deleted]
I think its stupid to take a parody and treat it as though it has a message.
shareYou think Greta Gerwig didnt mean it to have any message? Has she said its just a parody or did you just decide that thats what it is?
shareYou don’t think Barbie is satire?!
shareSatire thats full of messages, perhaps.
shareIf you try to find messages you will find them.
shareYou hardly have to try when they're shoved in your face without any subtlely in rant form.
shareWhy are you taking them so seriously? Damn. There are messages in every satire movie.
shareMessages are meant to be taken seriously. Thats why they are messages.
shareWELL YES...BUT NOT DEATHLY SERIOUS...THE DEFIANT ONES IS A GREAT MOVIE...JAM PACKED WITH MESSAGES...EXCELLENT MOVIE...BARBIE ALSO FEATURE MESSAGES...AS MANY FILMS DO AND HAVE SINCE FOREVER...BARBIE ALSO HAPENS TO BE REALLY GOOD.
shareWait are you trying to say Barbie doesn’t have obvious intended messaging throughout…? Did you even watch the movie?
shareALL MOVIES DO...SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE ARTFORM...ART HAS SOMETHING TO SAY...IF YOU DON;T AGREE WITH THE MESSAGE OF A PIECE OF ART...THAT IS FINE...IT'S NOT FOR YOU...IT DOESN'T MEAN THERE IS A PROBLEM THOUGH.
shareBecause this movie wasn’t interested in equality at all and portrays men being placed below women in society as a good thing.
shareI say this as a woman who believes in the original message of feminism and equality: it is not okay to put men down any more than it was to put women down in the past. You end up with a society that's little better than the previous one, it's just that the roles are switched. And it turns out, women aren't any better at being leaders than men. They can get petty, power-hungry, arrogant, blinded by greed, distracted by sex hormones, and they screw up often as much as the men do. To say one is better than the other all the time is not realistic at all.
shareKEEP REMINDING EVERYONE.🚺
shareDISAGREE...MARGOT ROBBIE'S PPERFORMANCE WAS EQUAL TO RYAN GOSLING'S JUST LESS SHOWY...HE GOT SOME GOOD SCENES TO CHEW THE SCENERY...ONCE LITERALLY...MICHAEL CERA WAS A SCENE STEALER IN EVERY SCENE HE FEATURED...THE WHOLE CAST WERE UNIVERSALLY GOOD...RYAN GOSLING STANDS OUT BECAUSE HE GETS THE ROLE WITH THE MOST IN YOUR FACE OVER THE TOP CHARACTER ARC.
DISAGREE ON GOSLING AS WELL...THE DUDE IS A SOLID ACTOR...TOP TIER LEVEL STAR AT THIS POINT...HE HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 90S...A LOT OF WOMEN LOVE THE FUCKER FROM THE NOTEBOOK...A LOT OF GUYS DIG HIM IN THAT BLADE RUNNER UPDATE...THE NICE GUYS AND LARS AND REAL GIRL ARE GREAT MOVIES WITH LARGE CULT FOLLOWINGS...NOT A FAN BUT LA LA LAND HAS A DEVOTED FOLLOWING AND OSCARS...DRIVE IS THE FILM THAT SOLD ME ON GOSLING...VERY TALENTED GUY.
Did you intentionally call her "MARGOT BOBBIE"? 😂
Regardless, I agree that Robbie is perfect for the role, but I still think Gosling steals the show.
Gosling isn't bad; he possesses some charisma and delivers surprise performances here and there. I enjoyed his work in La La Land. However, he isn't a top-tier star.
As for Cera, in every darn movie, he... well... plays Cera.
The other actors are unbelievably bad, perhaps the worst casting in a big-budget movie I've seen in years.
TYPO...FIXED...THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP...I KIND OF LOVED THE MOVIE...I WILL WATCH IT AGAIN AND SEE WHAT MY THOUGHTS ARE WHEN IT HITS PHYSICAL MEDIA...FOR NOW WE STAND IN DISAGREEMENT.🙂
shareI have a feeling it's a typo.
Slight disagreement. We both think Robbie and Gosling give good performances.
Best? Or just the most fun? His role doesn't have as much gravitas as Barbie's, so it's much easier to attach to him. Kinda like Dean being beloved over Sam in Supernatural, despite much of his role being comic relief and part-antagonist in the early seasons to highlight Sam's complexity as a character. Same as Arnold Schwarzenegger in T2- he didn't give the best performance in T2, but it's his most memorable role to date, in a movie where a woman is arguably the main character. So this is not new, people fixate on characters that are simple, comical and memorable, even if the role doesn't actually highlight their talent at all.
shareWhat do you mean not by one of the talent?
shareI don't have anything against Gosling, but he is not Al Pacino. He is mediocre actor with charisma and some surprising performance. Margot Robbie, for example, much more talented and diverse actress than him.
Not really.
Ryan Gosling is extremely talented and one of the best actors in Hollywood currently.
He chooses wisely his projects, almost all of his movies have quality.
From his first real movies, like Half Nelson, Lars and the Real Girl, both Oscar players, to some of the most memorable in recent years like La La Land and Drive. Even in comedies like Barbie and Crazy Stupid Love he shows that he has also very good comedic timing.
Al Pacino?
A bit impossible to make such comparison...
The same way there are no Godfather or Dog Day Afternoon movies nowadays, I also couldn't see Al Pacino being good on a La La Land or even a Drive.
"one of the best actors in Hollywood currently"
It's said more about Hollywood than his acting skill. Look, I prefer him to most of today's movie actors - males and females; at least he possesses charisma and distinctive features. Today's Hollywood 'stars' seem as though someone extracted a piece of DNA and decided to clone them all. I agree that he was splendid in 'La La Land' and 'Half Nelson', and he knows how to evoke sympathy for the characters he plays. He also have comedic timing and pick his movies wisely. However, there is no character he has portrayed where I can't argue that someone else could have played just as well, or perhaps even better. In my book, he's fine actor, but not one of the best.
I’ve always thought Ryan Gosling was a decent actor.
shareRyan gosling was the best thing in this whole movie. It was highly overrated.
shareThe movie is really lame, it's movie about Barbie, I thought at least it will be fun in silly way, but to my disappointment this is not the case. Ryan gosling was the best thing for miles.
sharePackaging up their feminazi message in a movie that’s supposed to be about Barbie’s world was sadly extremely effective at sending their toxic message to masses of people. It should have bombed at the box office on opening weekend, and the fact that it didn’t says more about the audience giving their money to these people than anyone else.
shareOH...YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE.
shareWill Ferrell?
