Well I'll be God damned, that looks awesome.

Shocked at how good this looks. Definitely seeing it in theaters.

Looks awful. Recycling famous scenes from the original movies. Awful CGI too.
shareBullet time and kung fu, therefore "the same", eh?
sharethere were many other scene "re-do"s. that is a bad sign*. :( I'm sure I will go see it at our IMAX, but will expect the story to be drivel.
* they ALWAYS call these a "nod to the original", but nobody asks for those, and it wastes valuable story time. Dumb viewers are like "oh yeah! Like the old movie!" while smart people are like, "we already saw this in the old movie, move on, stop wasting my time and upgrade to new stuff"
New = better isn't smart.
Neither is the whole "there are common things in multiple movies, so it's a rehash" argument. Especially when those things in common is shallow stuff. Now recycled storylines and plot? THAT is a valid complaint.
everyone's taste is different. I can't stand to watch retreads
It's not a retread because someone has the same haircut, throws the same punch or kick, or it's still about man vs. machine.
sharei saw a bunch of remade shots in this trailer. if it is only a flashback, just use footage from the original film. if not, why was it needed? it fills time that could have been used for 20 year newer material. I'll still go see in theater once. just hope it has some kind of decent story. we'll see. :)
shareThey needed a hit, so they go back and make a fan service movie.
shareYup. Clearly the director is creatively bankrupt and seemingly just got lucky with the first one.
shareIt looks like a remake of the first film, but I am interested to see where the story goes so hopefully it is something much different. I am assuming that the machines have rebooted the Matrix and still have not found a way to repress the anomaly that is Neo hence his blue pill medication. New Morpheus breaks him and Trinity from their current reality and we'll see what happens after that.
Did they just recast Morpheus and Smith instead of bringing those actors back or are they entirely new characters?
Matrix always worth a visit to the theater!
"It looks like a remake of the first film"
How is that?
Smith? Where did you see someone who was supposed to be Smith? I can see how you thought that with Morpheus, but not with Smith. I am thinking that might be Morpheus and Niobe's son, not a recast Morpheus; at least I hope not.
Oh I got the impression the guy at the end was supposed to be Smith, but maybe not.
It looks like a remake in that main character is unsure about the reality that he is in or something is not right about the world. Follow the rabbit tattoo for truth to Morpheus look alike and take red pill to reveal reality and discover the matrix. Neo doesn't know he is the One, but then discovers he has special powers while training with mentor. Helps rebels fight off agents including hallway fight scene and infamous bullet stopping scene.
This is all fine especially in a trailer as it reintroducing people to the world, but I just hope the story and plot are different. I guess I am more interested in what happened to the humans (including Morpheus) 20 years ago, how is Trinity alive, what did the Oracle mean at the end, did the machines double cross the humans, is Smith really dead, did the machines unplug people as promised/what happened to them, are humans and machines living together, did something go haywire when the matrix was rebooted?
The Matrix had other agents besides Smith, remember? It's just another Agent.
Neo stopped bullets at least twice on screen before:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guVAeFs5XwE
Trinity has a trademark kick and Morpheus the flying knee. Can something never be seen again because of that?.
Things like this do not make the movie a rehash. Story does.
What do we know? Not much other than Neo and Trinity not knowing each other living in a dream/illusion. What else do we know? Neo sees things and actively knows what The Matrix is. Is i therapy about it. That's not like the original. Neo was an unhappy bored regular who liked to hack. This Neo believes he had some experience with the Matrix. Knows what it is. And we've NEVER seen Trinity like this before.
lol I never mentioned their fighting styles and there is nothing wrong with him stopping bullets. I only mentioned stopping bullets because it is in the climax of the trailer and in the climax of the original film.
We know Neo is a guy that knows something different about the world and has dreams about the Matrix, but doesn't know what it is. He runs into Trinity, they don't know each other, but feel something. Follow white rabbit to Morpheus look alike and takes red pill to reveal the real world. Fights agents. We get lots of throwbacks to the first film with liquid mirror, hallway fight. The plot of the film could be drastically different, it's a trailer, I'm just saying the trailer makes it look like a remake (remakes do have a few changes here and there) and it is probably made that way on purpose to reintroduce people to this world (it's been a while). The actual story/plot of the film could be, and probably is, VASTLY different than the original.
You literally said
"It looks like a remake"
"Helps rebels fight off agents including hallway fight scene and infamous bullet stopping scene."
These do not make a movie repeat or "rehash" of the original. People throw around the rehash argument without much thought. Plot does.
Trinity knew who Neo was in the first one. They didn't "know" each other, but she certainly knew who he was. She doesn't even know who she is in this one, and Neo is aware of the Matrix. He remembers it. Neither one of these things were a part of the original.
Because it does. When you take infamous moments from the first film and highlight them in your trailer with, it gives off that appeal. Again, not saying that will be the plot. I assume the trailer was crafted that way because they are appealing to nostalgia.
Maybe you're misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not saying the film will be a remake. I am simply just saying that the trailer makes it out to be one imo.
Obi Wan does the same spin move in the prequels as he does here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kpHK4YIwY4. Thus does not make the movies ripoffs of one another. This is not a logical argument. It's baseless.
shareIt doesn't look bad.
shareVisually it looks cool and all but we've been here before on that front. And the trailer gives me very little sense of the story.
Besides, they've already fucked this series up by retconning it 20 years after the fact and saying it's a "trans metaphor."
I will no doubt see it at some point but my hype levels are zero. It's really more of an anti-hype.
"Besides, they've already fucked this series up by retconning it 20 years after the fact and saying it's a "trans metaphor.""
No one pays attention to that. Let's be real.
That's not a retcon. Themes and allegorical metaphors are not actually a part of the continuity of a story, they're subtextual, and therefore it can't be a retcon
It's a retcon if they had no such intentions when making the original movie, and I certainly doubt they were thinking of it as a "trans metaphor" when they made that film in 1999. If they were, it's not at all apparent when watching the film and they didn't say anything about it until 20 years later.
shareThe trans allegory is not an explicit part of the plot. JK Rowling saying Dumbledore is gay could be said to be a retcon because it actually affects the canon of a specific character
Nobody can prove or disprove what The Wachowski's claim, regardless of how suspect it may be. It seems farfetched that it was originally a trans allegory, but it's not impossible and I don't see it as a retcon
While it looks interesting, this is still a sequel to a bunch of movies made around 20 years ago (2 of which weren't that great anyway), from directors who haven't made many great movies in that time. Best not to have expectations too high.
share"The sequels suck" has become a popular opinion, but reality is the reviews aren't bad.

Well I didn't say they sucked, only that they weren't great, or at least noticeably inferior to the first movie. This was something that was apparent while I was watching Matrix Reloaded in the cinema when it was first released. I remember thinking it had a few good action set pieces but way too convoluted and hard to follow.
shareAgreed. I expected something lame and was blown away by that trailer.
