Very Woke for 1978
Very Woke for 1978
shareAgree.
share^Very ignorant of 70s movies.
shareThere was no such thing as "woke" back then. Why do people constantly try to push 2024 values on old movies? What's next? Blaming the shark for being a predator in "Jaws"?
If we successfully rid ourselves of every inference of violence and horror to make this world a more pleasant place (and that is a tall order that will NEVER happen), then the old adage is true - "If we don't learn from the mistakes of the past, we are doomed to repeat them".
What 2024 values?
What in your opinion is the OP blathering about ?
even though woke is a new word it still applied back then didnt it ? and had some equivalent term?
or is 'woke' something that didnt happen in the past?
I figured:
regardless of the changes in social values between then and now , and the words used to express them ("woke")
Gang raping a woman was never acceptable , not even in the 70s!
so wtf does the OPs "woke for 1978" even mean ?
I am 72 years old as of this writing, and nowhere in all those years did the term "woke" rear its ugly head, until 5 years ago!
Yes, most everyone back then would tell you that something like rape really wasn't condoned, but we had other words for what we term as "woke" nowadays.
The best word I heard was "sympathetic" to someone's plight, as we all had things that bothered us.
The term โwokeโ was used in the 70โs to describe black consciousness. A different twist, but definitely used before.

๐ I can see a whole new MeToo movement coming, of people who were attacked by sharks in the late 1970s but didn't think they'd be believed. And then there'll be all the people who weren't actually attacked by a shark but who saw one and were frightened by it, and now demand an apology from someone who wasn't even born then but had a friend whose grandfather said he enjoyed Jaws.
