Appetite for Destruction

For those who love this album, what is your favorite track on it? I put this album in a class of its own. It is pretty close to perfection in my book.

Mine: Mr. Brownstone

reply

I love this album too! My fav songs are My Michelle and Paradise City.

reply

I LOVE My Michelle, and of course Paradise City is a classic. I just think this album is a masterpiece and there are songs on it that hit me like no other songs do. I love me some grinding passionate guitar! šŸ˜

reply

Funny you mention it!
My son bought a CD player and a GnR greatest hits CD at a tag sale recently. I was so proud of him!
Thatā€™s MY boy!!!

There is not a weak track on the album but Welcome To The Jungle is tops for me.

reply

Yes I would be proud of my son for that too! My boys love this album as well.

Like you say, there's not a weak track on the album, and it's not just that they're not weak, they're almost all exceptional. Like some of them evoke an inner reaction that no other songs ever have for me. Welcome to the Jungle of course is fantastic and starts the whole album out with a bang.

reply

Sweet Child oā€™ Mine is a big banger too.
Iā€™ve said this before, Appetite For Destruction is probably the best rock house party album ever.

Country or hip-hop house parties are free to make their own choicesšŸ˜„

reply

Something about this album just invokes a visceral reaction. There's nothing quite like it.

reply

The whole album if fantastic but my favorite is easily ā€œWelcome to the Jungleā€.

reply

Yes! A great way to kick off the album and it pulls you in right away. And the bassline just gets you- kind of like it's descending into madness.

reply

I just can't pick one song because this whole album is very good.

reply

NOT a single filler song on the thing!
It was a flawless album.

I know in terms of rock/pop history we should genuflect towards The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stonesā€¦I totally get that.

But GnR arrived with a whole new attitude, they were the new brats on the block and they rocked the world. Itā€™s just a shame that one certain band member was a gigantic, selfish pain in the ass.

reply

Agreed. That's what is so special about it. Every single song is so, so good.

reply

Haven't listened to any of their stuff in awhile but Welcome to the Jungle stands out for me. And again, I think they have a cool band name. It feels paradoxical, like Iron Butterfly, but it works.

reply

Agreed. They made a smart choice with the name of their band. Even it pulls you in.

reply

Rocket Queen

reply

Yep. That's probably my second favorite after Mr. Brownstone. It's something special. I love how it switches from minor key to major key at the end. That doesn't sound like a big deal but in this song it's huge.

reply

Love the album but it's hard to pick a favourite. I guess I'll say sweet child o' mine.

reply

Even though I've never seen GnR in concert, I've seen Slash with his new band. They opened for Aerosmith and they played Sweet Child O' mine. It was raining lightly while they were playing it and it was a really special experience.

reply

That sounds great. I love Aerosmith too.

I've never seen GnR live either. I was a huge fan when I was a teenager but that was in the late 90's and early 2000's.

reply

I had a chance to see Guns n' Roses live a few years ago but missed out. They came to my hometown but we were busy and I just couldn't make it work. I regret that!

reply

Yep, Mr Brownstone is my favorite also.

A couple of years ago I picked up GnR Lies on vinyl and it was pricey. One in a Million is my favorite off of that one.

reply

High five to my fellow Mr. Brownstone fan! šŸ™

I don't know that song you just mentioned but I'll give it a listen soon and report back.

reply

Itā€™s got some rough racially charged lyrics, but itā€™s the way he felt when he first stepped off the bus in LA.

reply

It reminded me of a mix of Rocket Queen and Patience, sound-wise.

Axl doesn't mince words, that's for sure! šŸ˜¬ šŸ˜…
