Why are there so many mixed race couples in shows/movies?
Just something I’ve been noticing recently
shareJust something I’ve been noticing recently
shareIt’s not unusual here in New York although the TV ads seem to over represent it somewhat
Anyway, who cares, that won’t be the deciding factor on which type of toothpaste I buy
Coz why not?
shareWe need more white couples making white kids, the race is under threat.
shareI've noticed it popping up frequently in commercials too.
Whenever I see a mixed race situation portrayed in movies or media, one-half of the couple is white.
I haven't seen any Asian/black combinations. I'm not sure if there is any significance to that.
The other thing I notice is that whenever a gay male couple is portrayed, one of the two often sport hipster glasses and pastel colours... like it's some sort of code for "hey, this couple is gay". Or else, one is acting in stereotypical gay fashion with the over-the-top wavy hands and such.
A few days ago, I saw a commercial that I had seen a couple of dozen times already, but this was the first time that I noticed that two of the guys in the commercial are holding hands among their group of friends at a casino table. It was refreshing because they were just two ordinary guys. No attempt to set them apart, or point a big sign to them saying: "Gay couple here!"
I’ve seen some Asian/black couples not a common coupling but they do it sometimes.
shareIt ticks the SJW boxes. They have to have a certain amount of each social group so by creating more mixed race couples they get to tick off more boxes.
Why is this an issue? We've literally had decades of movies and shows with only white couples. Why not represent mixed race couples? There are plenty of them out there.
