Why are there so many mixed race couples in shows/movies?
Just something I’ve been noticing recently

shareBecause it's up to TV to teach us what is normal and common. Social immunization. But like the Ad Council's poorly executed anti-drug campaign, you can see the hands pushing from behind.
Personally I don't care that they do it. It's WHY they do it that irritates me. It's gotten to the point where I am shocked when I see a same race couple in a commercial. IRL, I couldn't care less who loves who and what shape or color they are. Tiresome listening to the drum beat telling me that I must care and care about a specific aspect of an argument I am not even involved in. I don't think twice about it if I see it in a movie/TV ... UNLESS it is an obvious, 2 dimensional space filler propped up for no other reason than to teach the viewer a lesson.
There is a reason why it seems like there is more racism today than 20 years ago.
It's a fantasy of some sort... most people still get together with people their own race.
shareI live in a little town so here it is not very common here but everytime I am in a big city I see that it is not something extraordinary.
shareI just skimmed through a large pile of "hollywood couples"...
5 out of a 109 were mixed race couples. Five.
That's 4.6 percent.
I'm reading, in america, 17 to 19% marriages are mixed. That's close to 20% or 1/5th. a Fifth.
How does 100% constant coverage in media make any sense?
I guess the (lack of) box office receipts will tell how that is working out.
I'm not against mixed races at all, but MEDIA is a money maker and must cater to the PAYING audience. Nothing more.
