Why are there so many mixed race couples in shows/movies?
Just something I’ve been noticing recently
shareJust something I’ve been noticing recently
shareDon't know about shows, but minorities are now overrepresented in commercials, whether on TV or YouTube ads. It's a product of wokeism.
shareStupid social-engineering and a ridiculous woke rule Hollyweird/corporations demanded of anyone working for them to do to be less "racist." Great irony is, it's really bothering a lot of people, including the black and white communities, because mixed-race couples are rare, even today. The Hispanics and Asians don't like it because they aren't represented at all, and to be fair, people are happier seeing same-race couples. In fact, the only same-race couples I have seen are either black or gay. Because of course that represents the reality of couple demographics in America today, right?
share
Amen! It's moronic woke bullshit!
And these days they're really pushing the white man / black women couple, probably because it's the rarest
mixed race couple irl.
🤨
Not that rare. Anyway, much more rare: Hispanic Wife/Asian husband; white wife/Native-American husband.
shareThe hatefulness is so crazy here! How's you're sanity bud?
shareMost people in General are good and shutdown the hate quickly which is a positive.
shareBut not here though, they revel in it.
shareI made a promise to myself to not get into angry responses other than when engaging with the idiots on the Politics board, but it's so prevalent everywhere, I will forget, and that disappoints me. I really do try hard to keep it segregated to Politics. But I see the nastiness everywhere.
Just the fact that people are SO bothered by mixed race couples . . . what is happening, it's so gross.
shareTo reflect the diversity in the real world and because there are good actors of different races.
shareBecause if you can see it, you can be it. Diversity is our strength.
shareI'm thinking that most people who complain about it must live in a pretty homogenous place. It's pretty reflective of real life where I live.
shareWhy is it at least 9 out of 10 TV interracial couples feature a black man and a white woman, do the advertisers feel it appeals to their potential white female customers?
shareSince dating sites have been around for years now, there is lots of data out there and most sources say the same thing. Are these trends what’s shown in popular media?

I guess that might be in the US. Commercials I've seen recently have included a black woman, and a white man with their children, an Eastern Asian woman, and a white man, a South Asian woman and white man, a black man, and a white woman, and a black man with an Eastern Asian woman.
sharei don't even pay attention to it anymore. it's so common here.
shareMy marriage was mixed, I have so many friends who are in mixed relationships. It just isn't something I think about until someone mentions it. When my partner's parents moved over from South Africa, they mentioned it as they were surprised at how many people they saw in mixed relationships as it's not common there at all.
shareIt's not reflective at all. It's what they want you to think, though.
shareReflective of where? It's very reflective of where I live. The one relationship that the seem to be missing that is rather common here is southern asian (Indian) man with a white woman.
shareNot where I live or any place I've lived. Most are couples with same skin color. Which should be ok! Right?
shareWho said it wasn't okay? Just because orange juice is advertised more than apple juice, it doesn't mean that apple juice is under attack, or that it is any less than orange juice, or that apple juice shouldn't get any advertising time.
shareWell, the fact they constantly drum this into our heads strongly implies they don't think it's ok. EVERYTHING must be diverse. You haven't noticed?
shareI don't know where you live, but a lot of the relationships which are mixed in my circle are going on 25 years, so I really don't think that it has anything to do with commercials drumming anything into our heads. I married my ex husband in 2001, so....yeah. My neighbourhood is 51% white, so that's a little diverse without any commercials.
shareMy wife is from SE Asia - blame her.
