I find cats so much cuter than most dogs...

I love animals, but I usually find cats to be much cuter than dogs. What are your thoughts? I had dogs as pets since growing up as a kid and they were great pets. Then had my first cat years later. Eventually all I had were cats.

reply

Yes, much cuter, except for dogs jumping up on you to say hello, cats don't do that, they brush against your leg.

I also like cats meows, better.thsn a bark.

Sleeping and where to sleep seems like an artform for cats.

reply

Now, it is very common that our cats have jumped upon me. That happens to me almost daily with our current cat.

reply

Cats jump on people, but they don't jump *up* on them like dogs do. As in a greeting, not as in when you're sitting down :)

reply

Mine does, at least if I'm lying down in bed.

reply

That isn't what he meant. Dogs greet you by jumping up on you. Cats greet you by rubbing around your legs.

(Actually a well taught dog won't jump up on you.)

Love them both. I have a basset hound who is the cutest thing to ever walk the earth and I used to have big tabby (RIP 😢) who was so round, cuddly and sweet. Cats are beautiful animals. Some are cuter than others, just like dogs. For instance ragdoll cats are cuter than sphynx imo, but sphynxies have devoted followings. I love hound dogs but most people near me have terriers and curly haired breeds which are cute but not crazy cute like hounds.

reply

I've never heard of a ragdoll cat.

reply

Both are great, but I think cats look cuter and dogs act cuter.

reply

But, but, what about when dogs do that thing where they turn their heads sideways when they hear a high-pitched noise or are trying especially hard to understand you? Or PUPPIES!

And for cats, what about when they do that adorable thing when they're on the other side of a door and put their paws under the door and pat around blindly? Or when they suddenly become possessed and run around like something invisible has started to chase them?

It's a total draw for me.

reply

I can't choose between them, they're both equally cute in different ways.

For many years I couldn't have a dog, only a cat, and missed the heck out of dogs. Now I can have a dog, but no cat, and miss cats.

Then you've apparently never met this cutie pie:

The only time I would agree with you that cats are cuter than dogs, is if it involves bulldogs. Can't stand 'em.

reply

The vast majority of cats still look very natural. Their behaviour is still fairly wild too, making them great hunters. Obviously this has its downsides too!

Some dogs are beautiful, but many of them are hideous. I can't stand the flat faces, permanently bent-up tails, shrunken rat bodies or muscle-bound solidity of some dog breeds. Some dogs can't even float or breathe properly!

Mongrels are great, but a lot of dog breeds repulse me.

reply

True. With the exception of Persians with their awful flattened faces, and the hairless, most cat do still look normal. Whereas we've wrecked and crippled many dogs 😢

I have an American Dingo, the only native North American breed and thankfully we had nothing to do with breeding them, so they look normal (even beautiful) and their instincts are still perfectly intact.

#5 on this page. My guy looks just like this one, except a bit heavier boned because he's, well, he's a boy dog :)

I like both dogs and cats, and during my childhood, we had both. We also had guinea pigs, hamsters, parakeets, canaries, and fish. That doesn't include the snakes, toads, frogs, and salamanders my brothers kept in the window wells outside.

Given a choice though, I'd choose a dog. I think they make better companions. Cats are too independent - doesn't mean they're not cuddly, though.

I don't have any pets - my budget is too tight. Still, I get to enjoy the dogs that my neighbor friends have so it's not all bad.
