I hope you're right (about Batman).
It looks like an intrinsically 'woke' theme (i.e. prejudice/miscegenation...although in today's FUCKED UP world, some 'woke' people now seem to be advocating separatism over integration, which is ironic considering how hard many progressives fought to achieve the latter), but handled with an admirably light touch.
Like I keep saying, there's NOTHING WRONG with woke/progressive themes (IMHO they're far preferable to reactionary ones, although even as a leftist, one sometimes wonders what a *good* right-wing film might look like). It's when they're dealt with in a heavy-handed way or clumsily shoehorned into material that doesn't warrant them, that it becomes irritating.
Whilst there may be some bias on the part of Disney's critics, I also think it's fair to say that the Disney brand is more distinctive, and thus more divisive than the other studios you mentioned. That's not a criticism by the way. Distinctive is generally a good thing (although less so when filmmakers feel hemmed in by a studio's in-house style). And so that's why some people talk of the 'Disney brand' rather than the WB or Universal one (and even though those studios have some distinctive features too, with WB concentrating on superheroes and IPs, and Paramount known for its focus on comedy, as well as Star Trek, most people are more likely to identify a Disney film over a WB or Paramount one).
You think she looks like she's in her mid-70s? 🤦♂️
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
Little Shop Of Horros (1986)
Scarface (1983)
And, obviously The Thing (1982), which might be the *best* remake.
Spot on.
Not a great actor, but a great Wonder Woman.
She hasn't got the greatest dramatic range, but she *does* have charm and likeability.
Lucky you.
Is that all you're gonna say about it?
I was gonna say, because you've been around longer to piss him off, but I see that you've posted much less than me, so maybe I'm confused.
For some reason, I assumed you were a MC veteran. Or maybe you are, and you don't spend your whole life here, like some of us have done.
At the risk of pissing off kowalski, I'm not expecting Blue Beetle or Aquaman 2 to be hits, mostly because of the whole DCEU debacle.
As for The Marvels, I wasn't thinking of that one, because it's not out until November. Still, after GOTG3 it's possible that the MCU might have regained its mojo.
Is he liberal? I've never heard/read him speak about politics, to his credit.
He needs to reboot entirely.
Maybe cast Calle in another role within the new DCU.
I don't think he was calling either of us 'smart'...
But yeah, I'm sorry that you're apparently the 'big troll' in this scenario. I'll take 'small troll'. 😁
I don't want to make an enemy out of you, but you really pissed me off with your INCORRECT assumption.
Well, I'm personally hoping for some positivity on that score. If someone says to me, with some degree of confidence, that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny or Barbie, is going to be a big hit, that's very cool with me. The more hits, the better, IMHO.
And it does appear, from this perspective, that Oppenheimer and the next Mission: Impossible movie should be hits.
And my hope is that the positive CinemaScores for Elemental might translate to decent long-term BO for that movie, despite the weak opening weekend.
Ah, interesting. Thank you for divulging. 👍🏼
I'm baffled, because if one visits any of the individual film boards, they're FULL of negativity.
The offence seems to be that I've somehow transferred that negativity from the individual boards to the General Discussion board, where I guess it's less easy to avoid.
But I still don't understand the complaint. My thread isn't intended to be 'negative', and there's nothing innately negative about the title thread or even my OP.
Funnily enough, I actually prefer positivity. I'd love to bask in it. But I also appreciate honest answers to honest questions, which is what *you* gave me (which is not to say you're 100% right; maybe you are, maybe you're not; but if others have a different analysis, that's what this thread is for...)
I'm not sure what your issue is.
Why am I obliged to edit my thread and change it to something more to your liking? You seem to be criticising me for what the thread isn't, rather than what it is.
And 'sorry' was me being polite. I *am* sorry that you misunderstood me, but I'm not sorry for posting this harmless thread.
Yes, COVID probably masked its failures, because it never had the opportunity to bomb at theaters.
She's Israeli. She served in the IDL, as all Israelis are obliged to, with a few exceptions. It stands to reason that she's going to be defensive of her home country, but what has she said or done that's particularly insensitive to the Palestinians?
By and large I think the West is far too anti-Palestinian and pro-Israel, rather than more balanced and fair in its handling of the dynamic, but it stands to reason that someone born and raised in Israel, which, for all its issues and its awful right-wing government, is still one of the few legitimately democratic nations in the region, is going to have a different attitude towards Israel than someone who has no personal connection to the country or region.
With all due respect, I think it's quite judgemental and unempathetic of us to condemn an Israeli on this basis.
Some of these Ben Shapiro types are deeply annoying, and, yes, they've made entire careers out of the word 'woke', and demonising it until they're blue in the face, but that doesn't necessarily mean that these films are good. Irrespective of the politics (which I have no strong feelings about), I can think of several reasons why these films don't work (although, tbf, the same could be said for the prequel movies, and I still maintain that The Phantom Menace is the worst Star Wars movie by a long margin), including poor plotting, misjudged 'humour', and sidelining of characters.
However, what does rub me the wrong way is when you say "a female main character who doesn't look like a model and shows us that women can do anything a man can do, only better, even if its Indiana Jones," because that implies to me that you and likeminded people aren't operating in good faith.
It's that whole childish 'destroy the previous generation's heroes' mentality, which is the height of trolling. It's not your values that older people take offence to. It's your insistence at destroying the things that older/other people hold dear.
If a right-wing asshole picks on someone for being trans, or tries to deny a woman's right to abortion, fuck them! They're interfering in other people's rights and identities. But why would you want to do the same back? Like I say, isn't that just trolling? Leave people alone. Enjoy what you like, in peace, and let *them* enjoy what they like, in peace.
This is like some kid sister trying to play with, and break, her older brother's toys. Why can't she just play with her OWN toys? I know The Lego Movie 2 tried to challenge my argument, but I still don't get it. Why would any decent, good faith individual feel the need to trash something someone else held dear? At best, it's interfering. At worst, it's mean-spirited trolling.
As for Kennedy, sorry, but at the risk of being seen as a 'sexist,' I still don't see what she's brought to the table
