I'm with you on this. I had never seen this until a couple of years ago (I actually played college baseball for a couple of years and was a huge baseball fan growing up). Against my better judgment, I sat down and decided to watch this...and I really enjoyed it.
The actress that impressed me the most was Lori Petty as Kit. I thought she was great...I just loved her performance in this.
It sounds like you're older than I am (I wasn't born in 1969). I've heard a lot of people say the same things you have, that the music business changed for the worse around 1971/1972. I still love the music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, though.
I am with you 100% about today's music/movies/TV shows/ etc. For me, I thought the music got worse when Lou Pearlman started putting the "boy bands" and Britney Spears in the late 90s. The music seemed to take a back seat to image again, IMO.
What I can't understand as well is that there are so many talented musicians out there today, but popular music is so terrible now. There used to be a lot of creativity and innovation...however, it doesn't sound to me like that's the case anymore (To be fair, I don't really listen to a lot of new music...which is fine, because it's given me a great opportunity to dig into past music).
I'm watching Illinois play Michigan State in basketball on the Big Ten Network. Even though I'm an Ohio State/Kentucky fan when it comes to basketball, I really have a lot of respect for Tom Izzo, the long-time Michigan State coach. Illinois has the lead now though.
30/30. I have a "guitar player's ear," so this was right up my alley. I can probably play about 3/4 of these (I've never learned "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas...I can play "Dust In The Wind, " though). He played a few of the riffs incorrectly, I think (e.g., "Satisfaction...I think Keith Richards slides into those notes and he played them as "pull offs"...also, he needed to "palm mute" "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" more than what he did). But I thought it was a lot of fun to listen to...thanks for posting!
PS: I would have chosen a different Offspring song...probably "Gone Away," instead if "Pretty Fly For A White Guy."
I just can't narrow my list down to 10. I'd even have a hard time trying to name "Top 10 rock singers," "Top 10 Country singers," etc.
Here is one of my favorite vocal performances, so I'll just include this one now: "Down By The Salley Gardens" by Orla Fallon. I believe she was one of the original "Celtic Women." I just love her version of this:

😃😃😃 That was great! Thank you for posting that. I'd never seen that before. FYI, I loved David Letterman's show on NBC (I actually remember the morning show he had with NBC back in 1980, if I remember correctly). However, I never really watched his CBS show. That was funny!
I wasn't familiar with "Hang On To Your Life." Yes, great guitar playing there...thanks for the clip!
However, I wouldn't exactly call BTO's music "juvenile." They did a lot of "harmonized guitar solos" and it takes a lot of time/coordination to work those out. Yes, Randy Bachman has a real "jazzy side" to his guitar playing (and I think he showed it with those Guess Who hits you mentioned). But I liked it that he really let it rip (most of the time) with BTO. I wanted to include "Four Wheel Drive" in the "Top 3 BTO songs" here, but I just couldn't do it. So...I will do it here:

In no way would I demean "The Guess Who's music...I love their music. I just prefer BTO...sometimes, you just wanna rock! 😃
A very interesting list! I love Karen Carpenter's voice...nice to see her included. Same with Jim Croce...huge fan of his music also!
I actually wasn't a huge fan of Barry White's voice...not that it wasn't great ( and it was certainly distinctive). It just wasn't my cup of tea. Having said that, I love his "Loves Theme" so much. What a great piece of music that is...it just takes me back to being a kid in the 1970s every time!
I love both bands and Randy Bachman was obviously the common denominator between the two. I actually like BTO a little better, although you can't go wrong with either band.
BTO had several hits besides "Takin' Care Of Business." They really rocked...their music was a lot "heavier" (no pun intended) than The Guess Who's. But both bands were great and it really just boils down to personal preference.
1) "Hey You"
2) "Roll On Down The Highway"
3) "Takin' Care Of Business"
Agreed 100%. He really did have a distinctive style of playing...a very influential guitarist also.
One more: Live Live: "Selling The Drama" (I couldn't resist!) 😃

Richard Smith: "The Entertainer." When you can make Tommy Emmanuel (who's an incredible player in his own right) gush with praise like he does in this clip, then you know you're doing something right!

You guys aren't golfers, are you? 😃 I've never seen "Glengarry Glen Ross," but I have seen the "Grumpy Old Man" movies and agree that Lemmon was very good in those. But I believe "Bagger Vance" was the perfect way for him to go out...and, yes, I believe that one has to be a golfer to really get that movie.
Thank you again for your reply. I would agree that Kevin wasn't "severely autistic" (You mentioned Stallone's son...I did not realize that he had an autistic son. Ernie Els, the pro golfer, has an autistic son also...my great-niece also has Autism in that form).
I've done some more research the past couple of days. We have talked a lot about Autism in our discussions, but not much about ADHD and that is mostly my fault. Autism and ADHD are similar in some ways (there is some overlap in some of their symptoms and diagnoses), but they are two different things. After doing the additional research, I would say that Kevin would be more likely to have ADHD than Autism (my son was diagnosed with both). ADHD is not quite as severe as Autism (although it does present some challenges). I can now see why you feel the way you do regarding Kevin and Autism. I know the psychologist who tested my son said he was on the Autism spectrum with his ADHD, and there is some overlap there. But someone can have ADHD and not be Autistic (with the reverse being true as well).
I do agree with what you wrote about Kevin and school. If I'm not mistaken, I believe I read somewhere that Macaulay Culkin has an artistic talent in real life, so he may have been an awful lot like Kevin! 😃
Anyway, I hope it doesn't seem like I'm "moving the goal posts" in our discussion. You've raised some valid points.
Jack Lemmon's final role was an uncredited appearance (if I remember correctly) in "The Legend Of Bagger Vance." It's probably my all-time favorite movie and I thought it was a fitting final movie appearance for Lemmon (given all of his appearances in the old Bing Crosby Pro-Am golf tournament). He wasn't the greatest golfer by any means, but he really seemed to love golf.
I've never heard that song before. I think he was great with The Yardbirds and Rod Stewart. He did a really nice acoustic version of "Greensleeves" that I learned to play from a guitar magazine years ago.
I remember seeing him in the video of the Rod Stewart song "Infatuation" (he played the guitar solo). He really was one of the greats...he was pretty reclusive and shy, from what I remember reading about him.
Yes, he did! When you consider that Duane Allman died at 24, Hendrix at 27, etc., he had a pretty good run getting to 78. He was always so skinny...but what a guitar player he was.
Did you ever see the Coen Bros. movie "Inside Llewyn Davis" that came out a few years back? I'd like to watch that again...when I first saw it, I couldn't make up my mind if I liked it or not! 😃 (I did like the music very much). Marcus Mumford contributed to the soundtrack. I really like this and thought you might as well:

Thank you! This is something I've really been grateful for in the "post-COVID world." I've been really fortunate in that most of the service that we've had when we've gone out to eat has been excellent. I think restaurants have really been hurting for servers since COVID and I really appreciate the employees who serve my family and me.
