I got 15/30

30/30. I have a "guitar player's ear," so this was right up my alley. I can probably play about 3/4 of these (I've never learned "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas...I can play "Dust In The Wind, " though). He played a few of the riffs incorrectly, I think (e.g., "Satisfaction...I think Keith Richards slides into those notes and he played them as "pull offs"...also, he needed to "palm mute" "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" more than what he did). But I thought it was a lot of fun to listen to...thanks for posting!

PS: I would have chosen a different Offspring song...probably "Gone Away," instead if "Pretty Fly For A White Guy."

Because of your handle, gotta ask, dude….ever heard some of John Daly’s songs?

He’s quite funny, not like a Jerry Reed or Weird Al funny, but because he’s a fun drunk. Songs like “RIP LOVE”; “Maybe You’re the Drug”; “Whiskey and Water’; “Cold Beer”; “You Dont Know Me (Like I Know Me)”; “Champagne, Caviar or Guitar”; “Homeless”; “ God Sent A Woman”; and the show stopper, his closer, a cover of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”….he’s such a lovable lush, and as you know, he could he hit ‘em and hit ‘em long

An old friend who worked at a local general aviation airport (non-commercial) met Daly when he flew in one day on a private and hit a few down the airstrip for the amusement and awe of some employees. He said he never saw anything like it and it seemed like the ball just disappeared as if it disintegrated halfway down the strip. My buddy loves to golf, not very well mind you, like a 25 handicap or something, and he’s plays a little acoustic, which ain’t much better than his golf game but he has his moments. He said Daly was cool, hung around a bit and signed some autographs. He still kicks himself by not asking about his guitar playing; we razz him about it, like he was gonna get a jam session or something, hahahaha….

Cheers!

Hello! No, I know Daly plays guitar and sings, but I've never really heard much of his music. He had a show on the Golf Channel some years back called "Being John Daly" (I never really did watch it much) and he sang and played guitar during some of the episodes (I think he was just learning to play guitar back then). He'd be an interesting guy to hang out with for sure! 😃

He can still bomb a golf ball. I actually saw him in person here in Columbus at the 1996 Memorial Tournament. He hit a "Zero Iron" off the 18th tee that was just a bullet. My brother and sister saw him just outside the gate at the 2011 Masters (He showed up in his mobile home and was selling his Loudmouth products). His son is turning into quite a player as well...going to be interesting to see if his son can qualify for the PGA Tour (It's so tough to make it).

Before Tiger Woods came onto the golf scene, there just wasn't anyone like Daly back then. He was so much fun to watch play golf. It's kind of a semi-miracle he's still around...alcoholism, cancer, etc. I'll have to check out his music...thank you for the suggestion!

Good stuff, G&G….

Just to be clear, I was suggesting or recommending a listen to Daly’s “catalog” (that’s funny just typing it, lmfao). I wouldn’t do that to an enemy, much less someone I just ‘met’ here at MC, lol.

Yeah, his stuff is a bit corny and his technique quite amateurish, but I can be a silly dude from time to time. I just find his shyt kinda funny yet introspective, which makes it all the more humorous because he’s such a lovable guy and you kinda want to root for him to kick those demons. Daly’s lyrics are simple but there’s something endearing about them.

Unfortunately, I can’t find the my favorite of his at YouTube so I cant post here, but on his song “You don’t know me….”, the lyrics make me chuckle but also make me think, which is crazy because he ain’t no Bob Dylan here: “….I’m not the kind of guy to turn away and run…where I come from they call that a fool….you don’t know me, like I know me, you never walked in my shoes….”….Yeah, it ain’t Shakespeare, it’s not Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell or Pete Townshend level songwriting , but I like his simple messages and brooding observations nevertheless.

Okay, nobody should be spending this much time talking about Big John’s music “career” over his penchant for hitting easy 300-yarders….now back to our regularly scheduled programming here at MovieSpat….er, I mean MovieChat…..

Salud amigo!

PS- a cool article about his musical “prowess” from….of all places, Golf Digest..

Thank you again! Well, I don't think Daly would be making records if he weren't already a famous golfer! 😃 But I'm glad he's playing...I think he has a serious self-destructive streak in him--not just the drinking and smoking, but he's supposedly lost a lot of money on betting/gambling--and at least he can put his energy toward his music.

Thanks again...have a great night!

These three I sort of recognized

02. AC/DC - Highway To Hell --- I knew it was AC/DC, but I couldn't think of which one
18. Blur - Song 2 --- I honestly thought it was called The Woo-Hoo Song
26. ZZ Top - La Grange --- Very recognizable, but I never knew what its name was

These are the ones I completely missed.

20. KISS - I Was Made For Lovin' You --- (No shame in not knowing that one)
21. Metallica - Enter Sandman
22. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop
24. Pearl Jam - Alive

2 was the one I am sad to say that I missed. I thought it was Back in Black. I do find that AC/DC has a lot of songs which sound the same.

reply

Enter Sandman's intro is pretty unique, I'm surprised you missed that one.

4 I had no clue
2 I recognized but couldn't name the song or the band
24 I got 100%
