Friday night chat, who's up?

I'm watching Orca again, #5 best movie of all time.

reply

Ah, yes. Charlotte Rampling was stunning in 1977. Great movie. 👍

reply

How did they get these shots. The cameraman/ director?? deserves an oscar.

reply

Ya know what else is great about that film? The composer was the great Ennio Morricone, who made every film he touched come to life. But yes, the way it’s shot is very nice, and I love the look of the ending on the ice.

reply

Possibly the greatest film composer of all time!

reply

If I had one question for Steven Spielberg, I would ask him how he felt this movie compared to Jaws.

reply

Sorry to cut in, I’m no Spielberg lol, but Jaws is one of the greatest American movies ever made.

reply

If you can watch Jaws and then Orca and tell me Jaws is better, then we have a problem. Seriously open a beer and sit down for Orca.

reply

I’ve seen both movies many times, you owe me a beer woman.

reply

Jaws is #1 in my favorite films list. I never get tired of it.

reply

Uh do you know how much better the photography is in Orca??

reply

the emotion is better..........

reply

I have to say that Quint’s Indianapolis monologue alone sinks Orca’s ship.

I like Orca a lot. I don’t even really think of it as a Jaws rip off because as Saskia said, it stand on its own two feet really well. It has a compelling story, wonderful cinematography, score and a fabulous cast, other than Bo Derek. I really like Richard Harris in this and lot’s of his other films in this time frame also. I’ve been watching it since I was a kid, but I’d pick Jaws over it any day.

reply

Not even close.

I'm up. About to go watch Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984).

I saw Orca for the first time in 2022. It really impressed me, going into it I guess I thought it would be some B-movie Jaws rip-off but it was a great production and stands on it's own two feet. Great OST from Ennio Morricone.

reply

This is my #2 movie of all time.

reply

Part V: A New Beginning is my favorite sequel. I still regularly quote lines from that movie LOL. All installments after that are illegitimate and non-canon in my book.

reply

I've always viewed the 'human Jason' trilogy (as I call it) as being the peak of the franchise. Parts II, III & IV.

I've grew a fondness for the first film and the fifth over the years. I've sort of soured a little on the zombie Jason films. I like the entire franchise pretty much but I do gravitate towards the earlier films more and more these days.

Back when I was young it was II, III, IV plus VI & VIII.

I & V have replaced VI & VIII now for me.

reply

I think they should have just went with the storyline that they had built up nicely in parts 4 and 5. Four was the end of Jason, period. Five was a great way of bringing the series back. Their goal in 4 and 5 was to eventually have Tommy be the new killer and they set that up really well I thought. And then they just totally tossed that out the window and just fucked everything up and retconned the entire thing. So everything else after 5 doesn't even exist to me.

I am watching The Reader (2008). Heavy stuff.

reply

I HAVE THAT ON BU RAY...HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET THOUGH.

reply

winslett won best actress oscar for this role.

reply

I'm in between episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

reply

FEELINGS ON YOUNG MR.CRUSHER?

reply

Worst actor on the show.

reply

HE GREW UP TO BE SUCH A BITCH TOO.🙂

reply

I'm on season 3 and noticed they're using him a lot less. Maybe he was an asshole on set.

reply

I only have a few deal breaker movies....

Orca
Harry Potter
The Machinist

reply

It speaks to how great of movie The Machinist is that had one of my worst dates ever taking someone to see that movie, and it's still a favorite to this day (the movie, not the date).

reply

I don't have a lot of movies that I love enough to go to battle over. These 3 plus , Neverending story, Fletch, Clash of the Titans. Xanadu.

reply

Hey, those films are all enjoyable and have their merits. Having shared a lot of personal picks over time here, I'm not exactly one to judge anyone else's taste, so I'm pretty open to most.

I'm still trying to figure out Harry Potter, though. I realized that I've seen all the movies in the series, but that was only because someone else at the time (friends, relatives, etc.) wanted to see them. There are some installments that I prefer over others, but I never connected with the Potter saga as a whole. Prisoner of Azkaban is a legit great movie, though.

Power went out in my building while I was playing Boromir's Game. It was off for about 3 hours. Losing power sucks.

I'm watching Illinois play Michigan State in basketball on the Big Ten Network. Even though I'm an Ohio State/Kentucky fan when it comes to basketball, I really have a lot of respect for Tom Izzo, the long-time Michigan State coach. Illinois has the lead now though.
