Not sure if alien contact movies count here, but...I've enjoyed a few that I thought were a bit different. I liked Arrival with Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forrest Whittaker. I liked Epoch with David Keith and Stephanie Niznik. I liked 2001: A Space Odyssey....watched it in the theatre in 68. But for "rewatchability," I always go to 2010. It doesn't have the same innovative feel to it as 2001 felt, but it is a more interesting movie from the action and acting part. It's got some good actors in it and the ending is fascinating. Well, in the case of a boat rally in Texas, 4 or 5 boats actually swamped. I thought the idea was they had the replicators that could produce food. I thought the energy to propel the ship (initiate warp) and to power all systems on the ship came from some kind of matter/antimatter system that produced enormous amounts of energy. If some country is not upholding their end of an agreement...address that rather than pull out. I'm a pay as you go conservative. Despite decades of this Republican admins and that Republican cutting taxes to get the economy to trickle down...the US is still overspending....EVERY YEAR. That's what I know about cutting one's income while still racking up debt. NAFTA was not a Clinton program. Cllinton signed it into law after it was designed under Reagan and ratified by Bush. "The impetus for a North American free trade zone began with U.S. president Ronald Reagan, who made the idea part of his 1980 presidential campaign. After the signing of the Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement in 1988, the administrations of U.S. president George H. W. Bush, Mexican president Carlos Salinas de Gortari, and Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney agreed to negotiate what became NAFTA." I left out the items that were true. Hillary didn't get elected. But nevertheless, Trump didn't flip any seats, Obama did. And who's to say Hillary, if she'd have been elected would've gotten any SC picks...Moscow Mitch would've just said...wait for the next president. He gets to do that. What regulations are you bragging about specifically....None, right...you're just talking through your hat. I get my news from a variety of sources and don't depend on any one outlet. And I recognize that some will put a left spin on it and other's will put a right spin on it. I adjust my understanding of each story based on that. I know Fox is going to paint a rosy picture of Trump while WaPo will always say the worst. But they've been that way for a long time...Fox tending to make Republicans look good and Wapo and other making Republican look bad. Only daft idiots failed to know that before Trump. LOL. I know a bit about the middle east, not as much as some but more than others. Why...did you think Israel had been at war with UAE? Sanctuary cities are wrong. Yeah...he's a survivor and knows how to skirt the edges, dodge the barbs, bribe the officials with big 'donations,' and get his lackeys to take the fall. It's just too bad he can't use his skills to actually keep the US safe from coronavirus...I guess viruses don't heed brashness, big talk and flippancy. Neither does the national debt pay attention to his pep rallies. And I guess he learned he can't keep the economy from floundering and foundering by stiffing contractors. Did any boats sink? I wonder if Trump finally got the hang of boat rallies without wakes? -Withdrew from an agreement to help the environment...maybe...cutting off one's nose to spite one's face? -reneged on an agreement the US made along with several other nations when the party had been upholding their end, the time to deal with that would've been when the deal ran out. Then it doesn't make the US look like unreliable partners. -tax cuts while increasing deficit spending...what kind of moron does that? -we pretty much already know media was biased on way or the other...well, except some maybe didn't know -we have no idea if the 'new trade deal' is going to be better that the old..time will tell. Certainly a 30-yr old traded deal worked out by ReaganBush could be in need of revamping. -replaced two SC justices that had been appointed by previous Repubicans...did not change the balance of the court one iota. That is as opposed to Obama who flipped two seats. -cut regulations that may have been important for...safety, the economy, the environment...what could go wrong? duh! -made a deal between two nations that were never at war Yeah, it's good, but not earthshaking. -he has indeed delivered many things on illegal immigration. One wouldn't. But I think several (millions) of evangelicals would be at least secretly embarrassed for having supported him so vociferously if after all the show he made of religious preference they learn he was essentially making fun of them the whole time. So in my hypothetical scenario, it wouldn't JUST be his atheism, but would be his admission he was doing it as a joke. OTOH, what he did/didn't do during the recitation of the pledge is of no consequence...an atheist punking Christians wouldn't hesitate to utter 'under God' anymore than they'd hesitate to say a prayer if the goal was to appear religious. That would be an interesting revelation at some point down the road. It might even be by Donald himself after, say, 2024 and he's stepped down and then punks all those who believe he was God's chosen. He'll reveal he always believed himself TO BE God. I think he'd enjoy having the satisfaction of having duped so many. I wonder if someone would then try to sue him for being president while atheist. Wow....your version of the future it brighter than mine. I'd need plastic surgery to remove my smile if Trump lost. OTOH, frequenting sites like this wouldn't be near as much fun. I see Trump winning in spite of the problems and everything the Dems throw at him. My only observation is that, like nose rings and metal objects sticking into pierced parts of the body, it looks like people are voluntarily doing things to themselves that, if forced/required to do, would be consider humiliating and offensive and would be resisted because of the health risks. What other things do humans do voluntarily that, if forced to do them, would be considered offensive? I think daredevil stunts, skydiving, lifting heavy weights might fall into that category. Seriously? Of course breaking curfew is breaking the law, but 'not much different' than setting buildings and vehicles on fire, smashing windows and looting....seriously? I think if you were a business owner you might see things differently. Are children largely immune to covid-19 as Trump claims? Is covid19 for the most part not fatal except for a few percent of cases where people contract it and die? I understand that to mean that there will be many deaths, but many many more people will contract it and either have no symptoms (many many demonstrators were peaceful) some will get it and get a little sick (a few protestors do some violence) and then some just curl up and die from covid19 (at night riots break out. You see? You understand nuance when it suits your message about Trump, but... The demonstrations are peaceful during the day...which no one seems to be contesting. But it would be pretty obvious...unless someone is protesting 24 hrs a day, that the peaceful protesters go home and the violent ones come out. That is what the reporter said. The peaceful demonstrations are during the day and the violent ones, as evidenced by the burning behind him were not peaceful. That clip you referenced didn't do that. He contrasted the burning he was observing at night to the peaceful protests during the day. Today I counted 45 Trump signs and 352 mailboxes....Trump is losing to mailboxes! Then it'll resolve itself. And furthermore, has he been brutally honest about the US deficit and debt? How long can we keep spending like there's no tomorrow all the while cutting taxes like we've got a surplus. Even before the pandemic, the deficit under Trump was higher than the last few years under Obama. Where is his brutal honesty telling Congress to cut spending and telling Americans they have to tighten their belts so we can start whittling down this obscene debt instead of increasing it like there's no tomorrow? IOW, while I agree other presidents including Obama haven't been brutally honest...neither has Trump. That's just fantasy. He's as big a bamboozler as any other president. But I don't think Trump has been brutally honest...and I'm disregarding his many prevarications and exaggerations like we'll build a wall and Mexico will pay for it. That was obviously cloud talk. But was he brutally honest on why China has the advantage in trade? No. He want's to make Americans think it's all China's fault or some previous trade deal. But the truth is...the brutal truth is that the US did it to themselves. The US business happily and voluntarily sought out the Chinese to do business with them. They sought to move jobs out of the US because they could make more money having stuff made overseas. And the reason they did that is because the US consumer happily and voluntarily bought stuff made in China and other countries thus pretty much forcing companies to send jobs abroad just to be competitive. So between the US consumer and US business, the US worker was screwed. But Trump won't tell the US voter it's their fault. He makes believe his tariffs are paid BY the Chinese and that he's reigning in the Chinese dominance in trade...but the shelves are still stocked with Made in Chinese stuff. He needs to be brutally honest and tell the US consumer to start having some patriotic feelings and buy only USA made. Why won't he? Is he brutally honest with why we have a problem with undocumented immigrants? True, sanctuary cities are part of the problem, and the wall will help, but how about all those growers and employers who hire undocumented immigrants? Has he aimed at them? THEY hire these workers and the consumer gets cheap produce because of this cheap labour. Heck, best can tell, he has actually hired undocumented worker in his businesses. But he's afraid to be brutally honest about that because it wouldn't be popular. It's easier to point at Mexico and say they're the problem. What are some 'brutal' truths he's espoused?
