It wasn't that ambiguous. And a terrible moral lesson for any kids watching, and out of character for Star Trek. But some adult storytelling about the after-effects of war. It seems the consequences will come next season. Bones has to show up at some point, since Spock and Uhura and Kirk and Scotty are all together now. Can't wait for Chekhov and Sulu too, though I'd hate to see Ortegas go. Because he set goals that were big enough to inspire him to make the effort needed to achieve them. The first goal was to play football for Arkansas. He wanted it so badly be put in the work to learn the necessary techniques, and the work to improve his body, first adding the needed weight and then getting in football shape, and put up with the teasing and the abuse from his teammates and coaches. The second goal was to become an All-American, so he could get drafted by the NFL. He had to step up not only his own skills and strength and athleticism, but find a way to inspire his teammates to work as hard as he did, even though he wasn't a natural leader (just as he wasn't a natural athlete when he started out.) God doesn't care who wins or loses. But football is most popular in the conservative, traditional areas of the South and the Midwest, where Christianity is also popular (aka the Bible Belt). It wasn't the prayers at the goal post that helped Arkansas to an 8-0 start, it was the improvement in the O-line (led by Brandon) and in the work ethic of the whole team (inspired by his example.) It's difficult, but not uncommon for walk-ons to earn scholarships and become starters. But it's almost unheard of for a walk-on to become an All-American, because they typically don't have All-American natural talent, or they wouldn't have been walk-ons. The movie was about hard work and dedication and setting a goal and sticking to it, and being a better person than those who doubt you or mistreat you. The Christianity aspect of the main character was just who he was, it wasn't central to the film. It works as a motivational story either way. Great choice (What Is Life). How about "All Those Years Ago" though, his tribute to John Lennon? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNL40ql4CYk Or you could just look it up. Harrison's first album after the Beatles "All Things Must Pass," hit No. 1 in the UK for 8 weeks, and No. 1 in the USA for 7 weeks, easily outpacing the first solo albums from Lennon and McCartney, and was critically acclaimed. He also had 3 number one solo hits after the Beatles. ("My Sweet Lord," "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)," and "I've Got My Mind Set on You") Harrison also teamed up with fellow rock legends Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (of ELO fame) and Roy Orbison to form The Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup with two platinum albums. The best version. And also the unseen, legendary off-screen presence Kublai Khan and Kaidu were always trying to live up to on "Marco Polo." Was Genghis Khan an alien overlord? Ancient astronaut theorists say "Yes." But the Romans always had a British accent, for some reason. Mon dieu! Ortegas is the best new character on the show. Someone has to bring some life. As they point out in the Honest Trailer, Barry Allen works for the police department, as a.... Crime Scene Investigator..... So people know what the film is about? Because getting a great actor who is great for the part is more important than getting someone the same age? And people didn't live as long back then, and looked older than people now at the same age. He was useful, but obviously not an idiot. Ken was always Barbie's fashion accessory. Go watch the old TV commercials. This one's at the very top of the list. Because they start out with actors who are too old. And they keep showing the origin story. And they keep focusing on the Joker.
