It's what faith does to a person, it distorts their judgement and ability to think rationally. Yes, all art is subjective including film. But their is a definitive shjt list of poor films for each year. This movie made that list.
As an Atheist, I actually kind of enjoyed this movie. Maybe I am a little biased because I grew up in the same town as the real Brandon Burlsworth, and know his family pretty well - but I am not a person of faith by any means; I just didn't feel like this movie was trying to turn me into a Christian or even force their religion down my throat. It's just that, in real life, Brandon was a Christian, it wouldn't make sense to do a movie about his life and not include that aspect of his personality.
shareThe movie was about hard work and dedication and setting a goal and sticking to it, and being a better person than those who doubt you or mistreat you. The Christianity aspect of the main character was just who he was, it wasn't central to the film. It works as a motivational story either way.
