Most or even all of Egoyan's other films are better than this. I thought it sucked. It doesn't surprise me that the Academy would give recognition to this film but not Egoyan's other films which are superior. She's a caricature of a working class Canadian woman. She seems more like the type of person you would find out east in the Maritimes though, not in BC. They can abandon it by just abandoning it. Nobody will notice or care. There have never been storylines like this in the past. The average person going to see this film is not going to realize that it is part of some convoluted storyline, nor will they care that it is. Which makes the decision even more idiotic because longtime fans did not like SF and Spectre, so these films are intended for a casual audience, but none of those casuals will ever care enough about the series to follow a storyline this closely. Besides, it's been FIVE YEARS, so even if people were paying close attention to the storyline, how can they possibly still be interested this many years later? On another note, Craig was old, washed up, and couldn't fire a gun properly eight years ago in SF. He was never even formally authorized to return to the field. How is that supposed to make any sense this many years later when he's jumping off bridges like it's no big deal? If you're looking for a film that does a good job balancing feminism, maybe Little Women or something like that is up to your speed. I'm not sure what interest you have in James Bond. They had an opportunity to forget the nonsense from Spectre, make a standalone film, and finally give Craig a chance to make a normal fun Bond movie. They squandered that chance, and there is nothing they can do to make this right now. They needed to abandon that storyline and make something totally original for this one to be salvaged, but they fucked up instead. Regardless of the pandemic, I highly doubt that there were going to be droves of people lining up to see some forgettable character like Swann five years later. You are also downplaying the extent and gravity of the production issues, all of which were self-inflicted. There were reshoots after Craig's injury (he aint getting any younger), and it was never actually clarified if they were able to properly reschedule Rami Malek's scenes with Craig because Malek was already working on another production by the time Craig was recovered. My suspicion is that they still need to do reshoots, but I'm not sure how they will manage to do that now. Fukunaga's instagram post claiming that the film is set in stone at this point is not a credible source to prove otherwise. There's not one single positive thing to say about the Craig era at this point. I am so fed with it that I even turned on CR long ago. He has been a disaster. It's easy to just say everyone is a hater when the reality is he has turned so many loyal fans against the franchise. If Eon was dedicated to making a good film, they would have done many things differently. For example, abandoning the events of Spectre, re-casting the role of Bond, firing Purvis and Wade, not bringing back failed characters the fans have no interest in like Swann... among other things. It's almost as if they are trying to make a bad film. Feel free to read through any number of threads, not only here, but also on the Spectre and Skyfall pages. People hate Craig and the current people running the series for much greater reasons than "woke" p.c. posturing, but that's certainly a big part of it too. Egoyan is certainly the better of the two. Marxists operate in good faith? They put bullets in the back of people's heads and then let their bodies fall into a mass grave. That's good faith. First you guys were saying "cultural Marxism" was not a thing, and now you're saying even just Marxism is not a thing. That's a joke. It's very real. The Marxists are the ones who are brainwashing students, not the way other way around. I would go as far as saying that Marxism, its teachings, iconography and everything associated with it should be banned in our society, and should be treated as a terrorist group would be. It's not a study or critique of capitalism, it is a revolutionary movement that seeks to mass murder innocent people on an industrial scale, and that is well documented throughout history. I didn't say anything about healthcare, but since you brought it up, the public system in Canada is not financially sustainable and will likely cease to exist in a few years. There are no numbers to suggest our system here is better than in the US, and in fact all of the data I have seen suggests otherwise. He brought an important conversation to a mainstream audience. The average person who hasn't been on a university campus in the past 20 years or so might be surprised that Marxism is the de facto ideology there, and that this ideology has been slowly creeping into every single institution in society. That's not surprising to me because I am young enough to have been a university student recently. Other than that, I think he is actually politically clueless. He is certainly not "right wing" nor is he any kind of friend or ally to even mainstream conservative parties. He seems to have the naive idea that liberalism can actually be reformed, but it obviously cannot be. Liberalism will inevitably lead to Marxism, and that is what has happened, almost by stealth, in America and other western countries. As a Canadian, it is absolutely astonishing for me to see the Democrats in America moving to the far left in the past few years. When I was growing up, we always thought the DNC was even more right wing than the conservatives in Canada, but now they are a hard left party. This has taken a lot of people by surprise, and in other cases many old timers are not really aware of the change and are just going to vote as they usually do. Exotica also has many scenes with glass and two way mirrors. The political messaging in this trilogy is incoherent. I think it's been widely reported that there were numerous instances of this type of thing happening in his career, so it wouldn't surprise me. Yes, he can speak many languages, and he does in the films. Chinese has many different phonetic systems, so it's reasonable that he didn't know the system on that keyboard. I learned some Chinese, but it was using the pinyin system which looks like the typical Latin alphabet, so I wouldn't know how to use that kind of keyboard either. Also, China and the US are not morally equivalent. Not sure what you're going for there with your dumb whataboutism. I think the original scores are one of the major attractions in these films. John Barry and others contributed a lot to these films over the years. I think there's been a decline in the last few films, and Zimmer doesn't seem like a good fit for the series. I would like to see the films get back to the tradition that Barry and the other earlier composers created. Okay, well you're an idiot. Federal officers are not a "paramilitary group." That's absurd. Grow up. I'm not sure why you assumed the blue party, red party analogy was in reference to the US anyway. There are way too many resurrections in SW. It reduces the gravity of the lightsaber duels and rare deaths when they do occur. If you die in SW, you might actually become more powerful than you were before, so maybe giving yourself up is actually the better option. It's stupid and juvenile. You'll care what their political views are when your freedoms are eventually taken away. We're not talking about a choice between the red and blue party in a democracy here. This is someone who supports totalitarianism. Not exactly a valid or respectable political view to have.
