Agreed. For this reason I tend to greet all new people in the same way and go from there because there’s no way of knowing.
How could we forget 😂
I confess that I’ve never been fortunate enough to have had one breakthrough conversation with an elder that made me change courses with my life or behaviour.
I became aware of my flaws around age 23 when I grew up a bit and stopped blaming everything on other people. After that it was a gradual process. I’m still not 100% happy with who I am but hopefully I’ll get there before I snuff it completely. 😛
I don’t have a favourite as far as I know, but I love Untitled 4, or ‘Njósnavélin’ by Sigur Ros
Amazing song
Michael Wincott
Im way ahead of you 👍 happy sailing
Totally agree with this. It’s one of those films that you see multiple times and will pick up new details or nuances every time. It’s part of the reason that I love it so much.
Yeah 👍 I’m currently obsessing over DDO and 7 Days to Die. Very different games but I love playing them with friends.
I’m from the UK and read the Guardian but only every so often. I never touch any Murdoch-owned publications. No newspaper is perfect though-they all have an agenda and I don’t think it’s feasibly possible to have an entirely unbiased form of media.
Thanks ☺️ I really appreciate it. I’ll take a look.
This whole phenomenon of finding a window into the past reminds me somewhat of president John Tyler, who was in office in the 19th century and whose grandson only died a year or so ago (as far as I can remember).
Thanks for the links ☺️ I had a quick look and had no knowledge of them until now but they seem like the kind of sites I could easily get hooked on so thank you again!
How do you feel about old interviews from the ‘60’s or ‘70’s interviewing 100+ year olds? It’s as close as we’ll ever get to a time machine I think and utterly fascinating.
The Remains of the Day
You’re very welcome!
Yes if a subject interests me enough I will gladly seek out any means of learning more about it. As you mentioned, just hearing contemporary music can be a window into another time period and it tells you a lot.
Imagine seeing the faces of people from the 50’s not knowing that their words would be heard decades later by someone using their phone/computer.
👍 Glad I’m not the only one.
So far a geographical error 😂
The last time I read the book I was a teenager but I’ve since learned more about the subject elsewhere. It really helps when the majority of what we know of a historical figure in that time period is where they were at any given time or when they were born/died. You can make assumptions about what they were actually like as people the more information you get.
I’m currently re-reading a biography on Isabella of France, wife of Edward II. The story culminating in Edward’s abdication and mysterious death is fascinating and pretty overlooked. Worthy of a movie definitely.
I was really impressed by the first episode of Mr Robot. Obviously there was a lot more to come but it captured the overall tone of the show really well I think.
Agreed completely- it doesn’t help that I have a massive girl crush on both actresses but barring that it’s a brilliant movie choc full of symbolism.
Black Swan was pretty tense on the saucy side, (plus most Dracula adaptions).
