DVD had many years of being uncontested, players everywhere. By the time blu ray really started establishing itself with content, players and TVs streaming was already eating into it. For someone like me I have no reason to buy a disc unless it is something I truely need to own.
DVDs are also cheaper to produce, cheaper to buy (think of the Walmart movie bins) and some films still only get released on DVD instead of blu Ray mostly smaller productions, foreign films and some old films.
It’s an action comedy, holds up fine. The CGI isn’t modern but easy to look passed in this one.
If you like the marvel style comedy you will enjoy it a lot I think. The only thing it doesn't serve well is the primary villain Hela. She would have been better served in a more serious film.
High Kickers was bad, it was a struggle to get to the end. It did nothing well, probably deserves a worse rating.
I think as a whole the recent Ghostbusters probably did the most damage as far as people reaction to some of this type of casting and film making.
It depends on the film and what ticks your own boxes. Some are effected most by jump scares, other a sense of unease, others gore. It really depends, torture porn was big for awhile because it was disgusting and upsetting to watch. Having an unstoppable psychopath chase you (slowly while still keeping pace and sometimes passing you) can stick with viewer. Being killed by things in your dreams can be very effective or being killed by something that could exist like a great white. It could be a creepy clown toy sitting in your bedroom of your haunted home staring at you while you sleep.
DVDs should probably be on their way out. Blu Rays and UHD should still be supported for a little while longer, both typically provide superior visual quality to streaming.
Yeah I have watched the original series of films multiple times.
hmm to be honest I am not sure that worked the first time
Forrest Gump
to help
Ocean 11 in adjusted was 61 mil
Ocean 12 57 mil adjusted
Ocean 13 48 mil adjusted
So it did not earn more, also it opened in over 4000 theaters which none of the previous films did and had a lower per screen average unadjusted compared to the previous three.
Also no large group was boycotting this film, in fact there are articles out saying as a whole this film was not receiving the animosity that Ghostbusters received. ITs lazy and has a DTV premise but as a whole it did not have a legion of people against it. It does have the 1 star issue but as usual they are wiped out by the 10 star ones.
Just to compare the silliness of this..Ghostbusters (2016), a film considered a failure, opened more than GB and GB 2 combined unadjusted of course.
Well I finally finished Iron Fist. This and Luke Cage were a bit of a chore. Iron Fist was better overall, but neither are close to Daredevil and Jessica Jones (s1)
I just saw The Foreigner this week and I gave it 6/10. Its ok, I wasn't thrilled.
I saw Planet of the Apes 2001 years ago, it was reasonably good experience overall 7/10 and it feels more like the same world the originals come from just updated with more modern effects. The new films feel less connected to their inspiration, I have never been very interested in them and have only seen about 10 minutes of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Mr. Majestyk (1974 Amazon Prime): "A melon farmer battles organized crime and a hit man who wants to kill him." Stars: Charles Bronson 7/10
Rider on the Rain (1970 Amazon Prime): "A US Army colonel in France tries to track down an escaped sex maniac." Stars: Charles Bronson 8/10
L'assassino... è al telefono (1972 Amazon Prime): "A woman whose husband was murdered five years previously, is stalked by his killer, who wants to eliminate her as a potential witness. What he doesn't know is that the shock of his murder caused her to have amnesia, and she doesn't remember anything." Stars: Telly Savalas, Anne Heywood 6/10
Thor: Ragnarok (2017 Neflix): "Thor is imprisoned on the planet Sakaar, and must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela. Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo 8/10
High Kickers (2013 Amazon Prime): " Zhao Yumin is a Taek-won-do coach , whose had hard times since his best student Han was killed during an underground championship . Zhao almost gave up when Ling appears at his door , insisting that Zhao must train her for the championships, and became the first woman fighter to lead a man's division." 3/10
It did poorly so I would think not.
Years ago I would watch Goldie Hawn, Sigorney Weaver,Cynthia Rothrock, Michelle Yeoh, etc.
I watched Sharon Stone too, but I am not sure it was for her acting. ;)
I can see it being a part of her, but I think its not logical for her to go full Sarah Connor when the man has been held for 40 years. There is no reason to believe someone that would be very old by then would represent a legitimate threat and would even seek her out even if he did escape, they eliminated that motivation with the quite frankly cheesy sister line in the trailer.
Unfortunately for her most of the people bothering her were probably not Star Wars fans, but simply trolls that do this crap for fun. That is a huge part of social media is trolling and starting trouble. What they say has little to do with what they may believe its about the reaction they can get from someone else. The attack is adjusted for the target. She is female, slightly heavy and Asian thus that is what will be emphasized in the attack. You simply ignore them and move on or you can delete accounts and leave it be. You do not argue with them or give them the satisfaction of being talked about in interviews.
Theron is pretty solid overall, but I only thought AB was an ok film and quite frankly the best thing about it was McAvoy. Tomb Raider didn't really light the world on fire, while there may be a sequel there is no reason to believe it will do anything but result in poor box office, Vikander isn't much of a draw. Gal Gadot had an 800 mil dollar film, but again its because that film is WW and no reason to believe anyone will rush out to an original flick just because the girl that played WW is in it. Taraji P. Henson proved with Proud Mary that she is not a draw. Emily Blunt is another one that seemed like a possibility but she isn't Sicario was a big pic for her but her costars were simply better and they have made a sequel with them. Jlaw success begins and ends with Hunger Games, its not to say she hasn't been in other films that had some success, but to say her presence in a film is a draw in and out itself would be incorrect.
Its hard to think of any female in a largly original film that makes people rush out for it outside of Scarlett and..unfortunately Melissa McCarthy.
As I understand it the film simply isn't bad, just not as good as the first Ocean film probably not much better if better at all than the other two. The harshest review I read said it would be DTV if not for Bullock and Cate Blanchett being in the cast. I will be honest when I read synopsis for the film it did make me think of the many DTV sequels I have seen.
The most votes are 10/10, if it follows the same pattern of up voting it will surpass 1,2,3 and probably 4s combined.
It appears women 18-29 seem to give it the highest ratings. Men don't seem to love it, women outside that range think its ok.
Actresses are tougher, Scarlett Johansson is about the only one I would bet big money on of the younger generation (its a big reason she was cast in GITS, other than looking similar to the character and already established as a solid action star)
