The term 'Nazis" has been way overused, especially nowadays, I think. It's been used as a means of comparing too many groups of people to them. I admittedly am not a Trump supporter, but I don't buy into the anology of them as Nazis, and Trump as Hitler. Granted, Trump has whipped up the crowds, and so did Hitler, but then again, many governments who aren't Nazis did that, as well. As harsh as the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories (i. e. West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem), with their settlers policy, their demolishing of Palestinians' homes, and the rough, ugly treatment of innocent Palestinian Civilians, I also don't buy into the analogy of comparing the Israelis to the Nazis in that regard. I'll also add that the comparison of Israel to Nazi Germany in that respect is tantamount to the "Israel, right or wrong" position; they're both extreme positions. Imo, the people who take such extreme positions are not doing themselves any good, nor are they doing Israel any good, either. This is not to say that the Israeli Government shouldn't be taken to task and their policies towards the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories condemned, because they should, but more people should definitely be careful not to take the kind of extreme positions that I've described above. Aha! Here we go! I have a number of favorite movies, but West Side Story is the tops for me, regarding movies, hands down. My all time favorite. Other favorite movies of mine, in no particular order, are as follows: Sound of Music Lawrence of Arabia Wizard of Oz Bonnie & Clyde Old Yeller In The Heat of the Night To Sir with Love Saturday Night Fever A Hard Day's Night The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Dirty Harry (the first one) Fantasia (the original 1940 movie) Fantasia 2000 (not as good as the original Fantasia, but it's okay) Southie Monument Avenue The Graduate Georgy Girl The Endless Summer (the first one) The Bible Hawaii The Reivers "Roger that. Over and out." Same to you. That's what goes these days. What's coming out nowadays in the way of film is mostly junk, and this film looks like it's no exception, from what I saw on the trailer. The movie "I, Tonya" is clearly meant to generate tons more sympathy for Tonya Harding, and I'm not buying it. You and Jehosaphat are trying to persuade me to see this film, in the hopes that I'll develop a more sympathetic and benevolent attitude towards Tonya Harding. Well, I'll tell you this, flat out, and straight: Tonya Harding will not get my sympathy, and I refuse to see this film. Goodfellas, Godfather I and Godfather II, and Dirty Harry are different films, entirely. They're not real people, so I don't have any problems separating fantasy from reality. Tonya Harding is somebody that doesn't deserve much sympathy for what she did, and I'm not about to give it to her. Period! Inotherwords, Liberty Valance has no conscience. He's a sociopath. Yep! I, too noticed that, and I just saw the trailer. It seems like the film "I, Tonya", is long on style (if one can call it that with a straight face!) and woefully short on substance. I was not planning to see the film, "I, Tonya", anyhow, but seeing the trailer re-enforced my decision not to. Not withstanding that I think that Tonya Harding is a disgusting person who doesn't deserve respect (she hasn't earned it.), the film "I, Tonya" looks like a piece of junk. There's enough junk in the way of movies coming out nowadays, without that one, imho. That's true enough, brux! When somebody takes up a career in the sports world, s/he has to realize that they're going to be scrutinized by the general public more than most other people. Tonya Harding is no exception, and the fact that she denied her involvement in the masterminding and planning of the attack on Nancy Kerrigan, and still continues to deny her involvement in the planning of that sordid attack, even today, indicates the kind of person she is. Not a nice person, a liar, and a person who doesn't know how to take responsibility for her actions and her choices. It's very sad to see people who have a lot of potential sink to those kinds of levels, and become criminally inclined, or, rather sleazy. No, I am NOT going to go see the film "I, Tonya", especially just because YOU think I should. I have not backed down from my opinion of Tonya and the crap that she's been involved in and pulled. Therefore, I have a suggestion, Jehosaphat: Get out of my face and stay out of it! Thanks.\ See my other response to you just above, and you'll know why. Sorry, Jehosaphet, but I'm not convinced enough to go see the film "I, Tonya". In my opinion, Tonya is not innocent, and she did commit at least two crimes: co-conspiring to obstruct the investigation and prosecution of Jeff Gillooly and his henchmen, and an unprovoked physical assault on and serious injury to Darren Silver (her now ex-boyfriend) with a hub cap, and wound up with a police warrant. Those two above-mentioned actions and behaviors on Tonya's part, were, indeed, enough to get her banned for life from the Figure Skating Association and affiliated competitions, or whatever. The Olympics committee, at around the time that she may have been allowed to skate again, back in the late 1990's, is when Tonya, with no provocation whatsoever, physically assaulted and seriously injured Darren Silver with a hubcap, bringing a police warrant down on her own head. At that point, the Olympics Committee decided that Tonya Harding was too risky to have around, and too much of a danger to other people's safety, and she was then closed out of skating for good. She deserved to lose her career because of those crimes. The owner of an Oregon restaurant found a trash bag in the trash receptacle out in back of the restaurant that she didn't recognize as one of theirs. In this particular trash bag, she found a note with the address of the ice-skating rink, in Dennis, MA (which is on the Cape), with the name of the skating Rink that Kerrigan practiced on, as well as the address and phone number of the rink. A top writing expert here in the United States traced the note and the info to Tonya Harding herself. That, to me, is some rather damaging evidence that Tony Harding did at least play a role in the masterminding and planning of the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. Also, Tonya Harding had already made a name for herself in the figure-skating world at a very young age, Nancy Kerrigan was edging in on her, and Tonya herself felt threatened by Nancy Kerrigan. A one-time beauty, yes, but the beast in her was always there, waiting for the right circumstances, in order to come out, if one gets the drift. I saw the trailer, and I think that Margo Robbie was kind of miscast for Tonya Harding. She seems to have none of the looks, much less the personality for taking on such a role in a film. No way, Jehosaphet! First if all, Tonya wasn't innocent. Secondly, she destroyed her own promising figure-skating career through her own arrogance, hubris and stupidity Thirdly, she doesn't seem to know how to take responsibility for her own actions and behaviors. According to her, things are always somebody else's fault. Fourth: The fact that she had a messed-up childhood and a tough life doesn't excuse the fact that she was involved in an incident that resulted in a potentially crippling physical injury to a rival competitor, co-conspired to obstruct the investigation and prosecution of her ex-husband and his henchmen, and made an unprovoked physical assault on a now ex-boyfriend with a hubcap and seriously injured him, and subsequently brought a police warrant down on her own head. Fifth. The fact that Tonya Harding has the nerve to deny her involvement with the masterminding and planning of the attack on Nancy Kerrigan even to this day is rather disgusting. Sixth: The loss of her skating career is her own damned fault, nobody else's. Seventh: Having had a difficult past myself, I would've liked to root for her, but, given all of the above, I cannot/will not do so in good conscience. All of the above having been said, the film "I, Tonya" is already on my "don't-go-to-see" list of movies. No bony maronie, either. Your points ring very true, ShogunofYonkers. Tonya Harding, unfortunately, has not aged well, either. Yet, despite her extremely messed-up childhood and adolescence, I can't bring myself to support her, due to the fact that she was involved in an incident that resulted in a potentially crippling physical injury to a rival competitor, co-conspired to obstruct the investigation and prosecution of her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly (now Jeff Stone) and his henchmen, and made a totally unprovoked physical assault on her now-ex boyfriend, Darren Silver, with a hubcap, seriously injuring him and bringing a police warrant down on her own head. She subsequently lost her very promising skating career, which is really too bad, in a way, because she was an exceptionally talented figure-skater. Unfortunately, Tonya doesn't know how to take responsibility for her own actions/choices, and is always ready to blame other people. It is a sad story. It's agreed--warming up the car's not such a hot idea, especially since it warms itself up while one is driving it. Glad you had a fun X-Mas with your brother and his family. Seventeen people at the feast? Wow! It sounds like you all had a great time all around. As for myself, I went to Brookline, MA, not far from where I reside, to my family's house, where my mom, my sister-in-law, and I had a scrumptious Japanese meal that was delivered to us by the proprietors of a great Japanese restaurant in our area! Yum, yum, yum. My brother, his 17 year old son, and his 15 year old daughter, all went skiing up at Sugarbush, in Vermont. There's a big freeze coming to our general area tomorrow as well. I guess I may stay in and use my exercycle for exercise. Shogun: I'm curious; Which "well-known, fine young lady" are you referring to? Tonya Harding's skating costumes were quite cheap and tacky, in real life, plus they exposed her breasts and her bottom, to boot. Her hair was often sort of cheap, especially her bangs, plus she wore much too much lipstick (which was too intense a color for her) and eye-make-up.
