14. when a giant klingon lands in front you, you engage forward thrusters instead of reverse and somehow penetrate
klingon armor and kill him. wha?
Yes, she saw the Klingon with his Bat'leth. She engaged forward thrusters and the Bat'leth went through the Klingon armor and he dies. Did you NOT see the wound?
15. instead of going forward in the timeline you reboot TOS just like Jar Jar Abrams did cause those movies made money so apparently people want to see that.
"Jar Jar" Abrams did not reboot Star Trek. The Abrams stories did not reset anything. It is set in an alternate universe for the expressed purpose that people would know that the original stories are still valid.
I know this has been resolved but this is not the problem with "Waige" it is the problem with EVERY TV relationship.
Well, you have the premise wrong. The Devil comes to Earth because he is tired of ruling Hell. He is still angry at God for sending him to rule Hell as punishment for his rebellion and does not want to rule anymore.
Lucifer feels that God controls everything and everyone and has a plan. Lucifer believes in free will the opposite of what his beliefs are the motivations for God's actions.
It is a very good show and your assessment of it being camp and for teens is off.
While only the audience (and the Klingons :) ) know "we come in peace" was the catalyst.
There were plenty of people of people who knew the Klingons attacked first and after agreeing to a ceasefire rammed the Europa with the cloaked ship. Ships logs would show all of this.
There is no need to find a scapegoat
Nothing in the new movies breaks Star trek cannon. It takes place in a separate universe and actions in the new films do not affect anything that happened in the Star Trek cannon previous to those films.
I can see Saru not telling because telling the truth might put him in harms way, politically, and he would not want that at all.
Keyla, however, does know and she should say something.
The Orville does have moral dilemmas but they are executed poorly.
I do not have time to go into details now but the writing for those moral dilemmas is not done well.
After all of the posts and social media coverage you did not know that you needed to subscribe to CBS All Access to get the rest of the episodes?
1) there is not "Vulcan Death Grip" and 2) "then "Number One Michael" goes and death grips her Captain just because she thinks she is right?" is not a premise. A premise is the idea for an entire show not just a scene.
By the way, she knew from speaking with Sarek how to get the Klingons from attacking and starting a huge war. The Captain was not having any of it so Michael had to make a call. Let a huge war start or commit insubordination.
She didn't do it "just because she thought she was right"
I grabbed me and shouted Star Trek at the top of its lungs.
not great overall?? That was one of the best pilots I have seen in several years.
It established the relationships between the characters without much exposition.
"Not as good as the original" It is a different type of show than "The big Bang Theory" so it really should not be compared to it. It is not a laugh out loud sitcom like TBBT, it has more dramatic elements to it.
The kid playing Sheldon is spot on and the sister is great as well.
Fan #1: I can't believe we can only watch this show online and have to pay for a new extra service streaming just to watch it! That is total BS! I'm not watching.
Me: Well judging from the HUGE hit Enterprise was you did not watch it when it was free either.
One more thing. The ratings this show would need to pull in to air on CBS are a lot higher than it would need as a streaming show. CBS will most likely keep the show on longer as a streaming show just to save face.
Fan #2: "10 Years Before Kirk"? Huh? The trailers look and feel absolutely nothing like The Cage era of Star Trek in the "prime timeline" That is total BS! I'm not watching.
Me: Think of it as having more detail because of the advanced effects we have today.
Fan #3: I don't want to see a "dark and gritty" melodrama about war with the Klingons. Star Trek is supposed to be an optimistic vision of the future and focus on exploring new worlds. This show seems focused on ugly Klingons In Name Only. That is total BS! I'm not watching.
Me: It is one FRACKING episode in and "dark and gritty" is the style of show today.
"Technically Captain Mercer is right that it was born on his ship so it should abide by Union rules or whatnot."
I would think that as different species/cultures/planets join the Union one the stipulations would be that they get to keep their own traditions.
Think of it the other way around, if the Captain was of the same species as Bortus then, technically, any female that was born on the ship would have been changed to male.
I am a liberal and see your points very well. I basically have no problem with your post except that Alara was not born with superhuman strength, her species evolved on a world with higher gravity and that makes her stronger than humans.
My comment on this would be the crew of the Orville would be more excepting of different cultures just based on having interacted with multiple cultures. This was my problem with Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise. It was like if a visiting alien broke an Earth rule it was horrible and they should be punished. If a member of his crew broke an alien rule it was all "we did not know"
This is true. :). I sit corrected.
"some people like movies that require thinking and attention"
Most people are this way, it is just that many people differ in opinion on what movies "require thinking and attention".
You look at the end of the TV season when the cancellations are announced. You will see many posts that state "Why do the always cancel the good shows like "<insert show here> and leave the bad shows on <insert list of shows>. The show that I like got cancelled and it was a show that made you think."
Now, a few weeks later another show gets cancelled and another person makes the same type of post. The difference is that they are complaining about a show the first person considered bad.
Both people think their show was good and should not have been cancelled when other, less worthy shows, remained on.
Actually, zephyr's definition was not narrow minded. It was more vague and still included the definition given by Satan.
If something is "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." then it is also "pretending to be something it's not".
It is pretending to be something, in this case being of greater importance, talent or culture, than it is.
I do not see many complaints about WW being unrealistic because she is a woman. I see a lot of complaints about WW that are then not looked at objectively and only looked at as some sort of complaint that she is a woman.
I personally like the film and will purchase it on Tuesday but hope that in time, much sooner than later, the idea that a Woman can direct or be the focal point of an movie will not be celebrated EVERY time it happens. It has happened enough so that is should be an acceptable thing BY BOTH SIDES!!.
As far as women, in general, being the focus of an action film. Without a background such as WW being a supernatural being a 120 pound woman beating up fully trained 220 pound men is rather difficult latch on to but I just watch and enjoy action films.
I would like to say, however, would ANYONE have believed Rick Moranis in an action film? The answer is no. A man has to look the part whereas a woman just has to "have the right background in martial arts"
No, it was not. In the original story the daughters just went into the village everyday (practically) and occasionally might go into town (what they called London).
The thing was that if you lived in an area like they did you might be sent to travel with an Aunt or close friend and stay for several weeks. The hope would be that you would go to parties and dances where you might get married off. Jane Austen does this with a lot of her heroines Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice travels with her Aunt and Uncle and Lydia goes off with a family friend. In the P&P and Zombies book it was done as well, I do not remember what happens in this film adaption.
