CBS only cares about the short term

They are throwing away all the things fans care about
- continuity
- canon
- idealistic vision of the future
They think these things don't matter. All they need to do is make sure it looks cool and has exciting, dramatic story lines, like Game of Thrones.

But what they're missing is completely is that just the above are what have kept Trek going strong for these 50 years. If you lose those things, you also lose the whole Trek movement. There have been many other shows. None of them save Dr. Who have fan loyalty like this one does. What it means is that ultimately this show fails and they devalue their entire property.

Also:
- character development and relationships
- social commentary

if you haven't watched "The Orville" yet, then give it a try. It's Star Trek! I watched the first three episodes and I'm surprised by how similar to Roddenberry's Star Trek it is. It has the ST: Next Generation look: uniforms, bright colors, sets, holodeck, ten-forward. A utopian show with some interesting trek type moral dilemmas.

"Seth MacFarlane's 'The Orville' Is The 'Star Trek' Show Fans Have Been Waiting For

The Orville uses its adventure of the week format to explore modern-day social issues and tackle current moral dilemmas in a sci-fi venue. I like its characters, and I like that they are good at what they do and seem to like each other. The show is refreshingly progressive in its politics, and optimistic to its core. It is a Star Trek show for folks who want something a bit old-school."

Absolutely. The Orville is well worth watching. And will soon feature Jean-Luc Picard. :)

The Orville does have moral dilemmas but they are executed poorly.

I do not have time to go into details now but the writing for those moral dilemmas is not done well.
