Totally agree! Watched it for a second time yesterday with my gf, who was fresh to the story and we both where totally immersed and immensely moved by the dramatic ending. A beautiful tribute to these heroes.. It's really a powerful movie, well balanced with a lot of great acting and character building. The shots of the forests and sights and fires look amazing. This movie feels very real. I see your point! Because how much I still loved Midnight Mass, for me it was bogged down a bit by the length of some of the monologues. Especially in the final 2 episodes of that series. At the same time some of the monologues where really fascinating and spellbinding in that show. But with 'Usher' I felt actually that the flow was better and I actually was a fan of all the monologues and dialogue 'battles' in the final episodes. I loved the witty one on one of Pym Reaper and Verna. And Verna's monologue with Lenore was just heartbreaking. I can see your point that Verna had a lot of dialogue but the way she spoke was music to my ears, I really loved it. The show definitely picks up steam while it's going, although me personally I loved it from the get-go. It must have been quite a challenge to weave together so many story threads. This series totally sticking the landing, with some added emotional gut punch and lingering thoughts about it all made it a modern classic to me. Yes I get what you mean, there are so many storylines and characters introduced. The series really has a flow that syncs in the longer you watch it, it interweaves each threat so carefully. And the finale delivers and makes everything fall into place. If the finale wasn't so well done it could have fallen apart. But luckily it sticks the landing big time. Yes I also like the third Annebelle, it's very intimate and raw with a lot of inventive unsettling moments (that future TV! ) I thought the original Nun was the weakest of the Conjuverse, but I thought part II was way better. It has better flow, characters are more fleshed out, it has gorgeous cinematography and nifty visuals. I would rate it 7/10 whereas I would give the first one a 4/10. I really did not like that one. Funny thing is I had a bit the same with Annabelle I and II, first one was just barely ok for me, the second one I really dug! It was way more elegant scary and with better inventive scares. That would be Carnival of Souls (1962). It has the same premise, I really love this movie, so I think I'll give Sole Survivor a watch too. ps: You'll love all his shorts and features from his golden age. That is 1917-1930 (with Spite Marriage as the last good one) Have fun checking them out! Keaton is outstanding and unriveled. Yess! I own it and am very very happy it finally came on Blu in an excellent package. Also very very happy they added Spite Marriage in HD as well :) haha I had to laugh out loud at that remark, and yes its funny subconsciously I had this thought too. Funny thing is, movielogic has conditioned me, but your argument actually applies to a lot of movies that are told like this with a narrator and crowds. I now also have to think about airplane where flashback storytelling actually drives the people mad enough to kill themselves off.. The ZAZ team would have a ballgame with the ending crowd of this series. haha Ow me and my friend just saw this movie yesterday and we kept checking the time like, when will our protagonist become brave and become an archer! It became like a joke to us the less time there was and then the movie ended with some weird song fu battle hahaha. So apparantly there are more parts to this, anyone knows if our hero ever picks up the bow and arrows? I noticed the lack of squibs as well especially in the big shoot outs. Was this a money issue? Ow wow cool, didnt know that. There's quite some scary imagery and violence in it considering the time period.. It's funny , the movie really has it's hardcore fan base and will definitely get its 400 mil worlwide from the box office. Hopefully with this fanbase set and the streaming and blu ray sales it will still get a greenlit for the sequels! They will have to film them back to back so that part two and three will each result to a 135 mil production budget. If the sequels than at least do as well as this one, the entire trilogy will have made 1200 mil with a 435 mil budget, than it could be a very profitable trilogy! * yes a lot of speculation but I think I have made a good point * Elysium is younger than the source material. So you could state that Elysium ripped of the Manga or OVA of Alita. It hasnt bombed yet. Close to 300 mil now worldwide. There are a lot of different mentions of a breakeven number. But I think it can make 500 mil. Lets see what second weekend China numbers will give us. Its back to 60% haha its like a friggin swing. But yeah there seems to be a large divide between audience response and critics. I just hope it gets to 500 mil so we can get the sequels I really loved it, I had put my reaction in a new topic :) https://moviechat.org/tt0437086/Alita-Battle-Angel/5c6819fa941e320961ba76a1/First-manga-live-action-adaption-I-love So I saw it for a second time yesterday and enjoyed it even more, now that I could really let go of all my fears after reading the harsh critics reviews and letting their arguments have an effect on my viewing. Maybe there is eventually on Blu Ray. Just like with Lord of the Rings
I kinda see what you mean, but for me this was also a bit cool to (just like in the manga and anime) have a kick ass protagonist who just destroys a lot of opponents in hyperkinetic fashion (like in a Rambo film, it is just fun) BUT having said that. The fight where she looses almost all her limbs, was very very tense. I was so hoping for her to get through, even though of course I knew she was going to be fine...
I'm betting on female audience , Asian audience and hopefully Europe. I'm from the Netherlands and here it's doing very well.
