Yes I think so.
I've always thought A Little Princess had a very rich, very beautiful aesthetic that, if I were a director, I would try to emulate. Alfonso CuarĂ³n hasn't topped himself since directing this movie, imo.
I agree, but I don't blame video games - I had an Atari when I was young and I loved it (yes I'm a hundred years old). I also went outdoors a lot. I would like to say the reason for the lesser outdoor activities is because I grew in a different time, but it's not that either.
It generally isn't safe to leave children to play alone on the streets. But parents aren't willing, or aren't able, to take their kids out and watch over them while they're playing. They won't get on bikes and ride with them. They won't go to parks and swing on the swings with them. And that's not me hating on parents - I know how busy parents are in this economy (although I know some of them are just busy ranting on Facebook lol). But that's why they buy their kids games, because they won't or can't be outdoors with their kids as much as they need, and they won't let their kids be alone outdoors.
Agreed.
Is this the dad from Dead Poet's Society? He was barely in that movie, but he was still good in that, too.
It means nothing. Sorry, but I've never heard any person outside of film or TV describe themselves in this way. And the people in those movies/shows usually are not actually that badly off to make such a claim. So it means nothing.
Same. He seems a terrific man and actor. He's just lovable.
I agree. We need more Ledger Jokers.
There's a movie called EDTV that is basically The Truman Show but with Matthew McConaughey - but I wouldn't recommend it because it's a ripoff.
However, Pleasantville really reminds me of The Truman Show in a lot of ways and I definitely would recommend it.
I Am Number Four. Seems like it was meant to be a TV show; it failed as a movie coz it's not meant to be a movie.
Also, I wouldn't mind a Breakfast Club tv show.
No Nic Cage and I'm in.
Basically any monologue by Robin Williams.
Yeah I'm in agreement with you on that. But I won't say it's all cons or all pros though.
Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town. I'm a wimp - I like watching family-friendly (ish) Halloween movies with a touch of magic or something.
Pretty much. I'd say for me life feels very cyclical. The lows are the same and the highs are the same. And there are a lot more lows than highs. And the in-between moments are filled with the exact same mundane events on repeat. And it goes round and round in a kind of cycle.
Maybe it's because a lot of young villains, on a scale of hit and miss, lean more to the miss side. Young Lex Luthor in Smallville the tv show was brilliant, but young Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman? The worst thing ever. There are, imho, more bad young villains than good. That's not to say they can't be good. But old is generally better.
Just off the top of my head? The Truman Show. I don't know why, but I feel like it was ahead of its time when it came out and now it's probably more relevant than it has ever been. And it's just like a really good movie that makes you think.
I'm a dead ringer for Allison, personality-wise. I even made a lot of friends and gave up the weird gothic thing artist thing by the end, mostly.
I definitely remember it. It had its pros and cons.
Communication was probably the biggest con. It was so difficult to stay on the phone with someone, or to keep in touch via phone or physical mail, so it made friendships either more or less precious.
And there was a lot more mystery in the world because people not only did not have the ease of communication via the internet, but people didn't carry a camera with them everywhere, so they couldn't catch rare or instant moments and post them online. Which is probably why vanity and physical insecurity were much lower overall. But also, not as many people can get away with crime as they used to.
I think the things I miss most, I guess, about pre-internet days, are the patience that people used to have. We used to wait for things. We didn't used to binge tv shows; we waited per week for tv episodes and we didn't lose our minds because of it. And also the amount of information I used to be able to remember on command. Sure, we have so much more info available to us, but we don't keep in as much because we don't have to. Not a pro or a con, necessarily. Just something I miss.
