He actually played an Egyptian.
Do you recall the name of the Ali/Frazier documentary? Is it called One Nation Divisible?
I think it's how Will Smith portrayed him, angry, a sour puss, wrinkled forehead 24/7, etc. But if you watch his interviews or vids, he is very charismatic and has a glint and trying to stop a smile whenever he insults or rants poetically. It's all part of an act, problem is, Will Smith took it all to seriously and took out every charm from it. You'll notice people are smiling and laughing when Ali opens his mouth. But when Smith opens his mouth, everyone is insulted. Idk if it's Smith, Mann or both are to blame for this because Smith knows how to be charismatic. But he had no charisma here unfortunately. Pacino when he works with Mann drips with charisma.
The actor and character of Apollo Creed was based off Ali, his characterization was the perfect portrayal of Ali. Even Ali said Creed is him.
6.7 is OK but not considered good by many, a film has to be an 8/10 to be considered good by many viewers looking for a new film to watch.
Oh I too was born after Ali's boxing hayday but I had heard of him prior, just like I've heard of Babe Ruth, Michaelangelo, Mozart.
The thing with Ali is even when he hurls insults or boasts, there's a glint in his eye and a smile about to break on his lips because it was all purposeful bravado and boasting, not out of malice or aggression. There is a charisma running through it all, so you see him more as cocky than arrogant. You enjoy his insults because they're so colorful and done in a cheeky way, not in an angry black man stereotype way.
Smith is usually charismatic but he didn't bring it here, maybe Mann is to blame. But Mann is usually an amazing director where Pacino's charisma shines in his films so why cant Smith? Maybe they needed a black director who loved boxing and Ali, and understood the culture more. Like Coppola did for tgf films, prior to him, they had wasps and jews play and direct italian gangster films.
Idk, a lot of gen z look old to me. They're in their 20s but look 40s. If he looked older, it's because of stress and the depression, that still happens today.
It may be a cliche but it's realistic, unless of course the wife doesn't care.
I think both the Vietnam and Columbian scenes were shot in the Philippines to save money.
I just saw it tonight at home, alone. It was very poorly made on every count.
Nice concept but poor execution. The dialogue is atrocious. Why was the sentinel called holy father when that title is used for the pope? Why were ordinary priests dressed as bishops and cardinals? And it takes 10 years to be a priest or nun, you just don't automatically become one in a day.
Overrated? Never even heard of it until recently, I think it's a highly forgotten film.
He does look like n uglier version of Doogie Howser. I had to chuckle a bit when it was said, he had his mother's beauty. Lol.
Likely both, he wants something new and shiny like you said, and be able to sell the old one at a reasonable price. Oh he doesn't like apple, he uses android phones. Most of us in the Philippines use Android phones and tablets.
What part of this film or any other Tarantino film did you think was realistic though. It is purposely set up that way, as every other Taranyino film.
Well that's me, I keep mine for years but my brother changes his every few months and he too works for IT. He says tech changes so quickly, if you don't want to get stuck with something you can't sell, you have to sell it while you still can without losing money. But I hate change and transferring all my apps from 1 device to another. Some programs don't allow multiple devices or limited devices.
I wish these films would be released on bluray. I'd probably settle for DVD too, we only have vhs quality.
Yes, just watch the ff for reference:
The Deer Hunter
At Close Range
Catch Me If You Can
Have you watched him when he was younger?
It's on yt on HD, I agree, we'll worth the watch. Would've been better with a better director, the cuts were weird.
Lol, how are they supposed to act? What does Walken have to gain by being a hitman this one time?
